As in many cases young people from the 70's ran away from home... I always imagine that television or the media somehow revolutionized young people with messages against the Vietnam War or against drugs or free sex and being free spirits they felt they had the "right" to do what they wanted... of course a serious murderer could have kidnapped and killed them...
whatever the case
Rest in peace
So this morning I got word that their was a tip in the Sherry Jean Pickle case. UP#17490 needed to be checked. Soon after looking at it and conferring with my colleagues at MPIA, I have submitted a Doe Network request for the two and I have contacted law enforcement. On the Doe Network the case is 1525UFCA and their is no comparisons to Sherry Jean Pickle yet.

Sherry's NamUs page was updated on June 10th of this year. She has 20 rule-outs total. The two rule-outs that were not present last time the list was posted in this thread are Finley Creek (OR) Jane Doe -- who, according to my notes, was added to the exclusion list c. January 2024 -- and "Ginger" (UP1341)

Found in a shallow grave after cultivation of vineyard in Arvin CA; hair collected at autopsy was described as mostly auburn. 13-24yo, I see no indication that they have any idea when this Doe died, she must have been fully skeletonized. Large front teeth, which I see in that image of Sherry in yellow. Partial skeleton only. This Doe didn't wear much jewelry, maybe a couple of thin chains, maybe one with a religious medallion of some kind. I don't see any jewelry for Sherry, maybe earrings in one photo, but I can't tell. If she's wearing chains especially one that is religious, she may keep it under shirts in photos. Long Beach is about 2 hours to Arvin CA.
By bringing people, information, forensic science and technology together, NamUs helps resolve cases.

Found in a vineyard, like 16yo Karen Heverly in Rancho Cucamonga 1979, she was missing all the way from Jersey Shore PA. It's two hours or so from Arvin to Rancho Cucamonga. Karen's about the same age, height, and weight as Sherry Pickle, and Karen's described as having a slight overbite.
Might be Sherry. Also, this Doe's killer may be the same murderer that killed Karen Heverly. If so, that may be someone that crosses the country, like Alcala or Bundy, but it can't be either of these killers for both of these victims, their timelines don't fully line up. And it may not be someone that crosses the country, it may be a CA or regional killer that targets hitchhikers and who has somehow acquired knowledge of area vineyards. Sherry was noted to be hitching, and some suspect Karen may have been hitchhiking when she left.
