Right. Like the great point LMC brought out, it seems strange to do when you are supposedly right there saying your good-byes and have a nice days, over to, now hand me your purse so I can put money in it!

It may very well use a debit system and it would be interesting to know the answer to that, and how often it was replenished and when. Or if it was another day another dollar type payment situation, as it seems with Marlene's statement.

Perhaps Marlene wakes Sierra up at 6am, thus Sierra would would still be in bed when Marlene goes into her room, and places money for lunch into Sierra's purse.

Every morning I put stuff in backpacks and a handbag...my kids would forget half their junk if I didn't. I see nothing odd about a mom dropping cash into a daughter's purse.

Some schools have a fast food like cafeteria that one would need daily cash for. JMO

It seems very controlling actions.
It makes me think poor Sierra might have had money safety-pinned to the front of her clothes until she was 12 or something.

If you can name me 10 other mothers to whom this seems reasonable
for a 15 year old, I'd be surprised.

It seems to reinforce that Marlene thinks Sierra a very irresponsible person.
If that were the case, it does not comport easily with allowing her to walk a good distance to the bus stop and back home again without immediate supervision.

i knew they dived the coyote Creek lakes, but had they actually Dived the actual Coyote Lake before, beyond searching the area?

How is it controlling? What is the acceptable alternative? Giving a 15 year old a credit card or one large sum of cash weekly? I'm confused as to why its even an issue. JMO

I don't know, why wouldn't lunch money be left on the counter or by the door...there is NO WAY my mom would have opened my purse when I was 15...

  • #167
The day my teenage daughter tells me I'm not allowed to touch her purse is the day she better find elsewhere to reside. :p

I wasn't aware that school lunches for a week required so vast a sum of money that one might need to use a credit card!

My point was not it being a large sum...just that I don't get the big deal about dropping $5-$10 in my daughter's purse daily for lunch.

If my daughter's purse is sitting on her desk and I walk in to say bye and drop money in her purse, how is that controlling?

Hello,

I'm new here, and have been reading for a few days on this case and a few others.

I just read this on Karina Rusk's Twitter:

New dive team searches today in Coyote Reservoir in #FindSierraLaMar. Unit is using new sonar equipment which produces 3-D images.

https://twitter.com/#!/karinanews

ETA: They have searched this reservoir in the past, so it's interesting they are going back with new equipment.

First, :welcome: Second, thanks for this info!

The water searching
Coyote Lake, Santa Clara, California - Google Maps

Seems isolated place - wonder how a perp could get something into that lake?

Might be good to make note of Karina's twitter, since she seems active on this case:

It demonstrates you don't trust your daughter to be capable of opening her purse and dropping it in herself.

Have you considered the novel idea of just handing it to her?

I don't really think this is strange at all. My mom would just shove money in my purse for lunch when I was in high school. She didn't place it in my wallet, but it was technically just shoved into the very top of my bag. I was a very responsible teenager and never got into any trouble. My mom often had to leave before I did for work so that was just the easiest way for her to make sure I had money to buy lunch. We would always forget to do it the night before. She didn't do it every day, but she would a few days a week depending on how much cash she had on hand. I never thought of it as an invasion of privacy. We don't like to carry a lot of cash on us in my family so she would often only have small bills to give me which would not get me through the whole week.

In fact, I am now in grad school and married and when I go to visit her, still to this day, whenever I am packing up my car to leave to drive back up to school, she sneaks money in my purse for gas. I don't ask for it, but she knows living on a grad student budget is difficult.

Hey OldSteve,
The Coyote Reservoir in the above link is another Coyote Reservoir in Lassen County. Coyote Reservoir in Santa Clara County is next to Anderson Dam.

Thanks to all for clearing up what ML said on AMW about putting $$ into SL's Juicy bag.

Would love to know what she remembered about what was in the bag, but LE's might have told not to discussed it. If so, then surprised she mentioned the $$, may have been a slip..

Karina Rusk, news reporter from NBC Bay Area emailed me back with information on the stolen vehicle on Palm Dr on 3/16. She also asked about a white sedan, and I wrote her back that a detective had contacted one of Sierra's friends about a white Dodge Dynasty and asked whether she recognized the vehicle I gave her the name of the Twitter account in case she wants to tweet her to get more information.

From Karina Rusk, ABC news reporter:

On May 10, 2012, at 12:41 PM, "Rusk, Karina" <[email protected]> wrote
"I have finally gotten confirmation that this stolen vehicle had nothing to do with Sierra’s case. It also involved the theft of a trailer. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Have you heard anything about a white sedan being involved in the case? Thanks, Karina"

Maybe you could ask her to find out about the one stolen on Palm
on 3/13? And a recovered one, on Lantz, on 3/24??

Me....I did it. Not into a purse as I had boys but I would stick their lunch money in the pocket of their hoodie, or the front zip part of their backpack.

Thank you :)

Coyote Reservoir is pretty popular in the area for fishing, boating, etc.

And on the topic of the money in the purse, I don't find it all that odd. I'll occasionally stuff things like money in my daughters bag and let her know it's there and she's asked me to get things out of her bag for her before.

If Marlene put money into her handbag, it would seem to me that she may not have actually spoken or interacted with Sierra that morning. She could have put the money in her purse the evening before, or perhaps Sierra was in the shower and she did it before leaving for work, or maybe Sierra was still asleep when she left for work. To put money in a zipped location in her handbag indicates to me that it was something that she did regularly and Sierra would know where to look for the money. It does not seem like something you would do if Sierra was right there.

This also speaks to the relationship that the two of them had. If Sierra was comfortable with having mom put money in a zippered pocket, she did not have a whole lot to hide, and they must have been on fairly good terms. Even at the age of 15, a woman's purse is a woman's purse.

:seeya:

BBM: Respectfully, I disagree ...

JMO, but from Sierra's "tweets" I have read, it does not appear like they were on "good terms" ... Of course, Sierra is not here to give "her side of the story" ...

However, Marlene is here to give "her side of the story" and she clearly did so in her "Mother's Day Statement" ...

JMO, but it was NOT what I expected from a mother whose daughter is missing ...

- No where in the letter does she address the fact that Sierra is "missing" ...

- No where in the letter does she say she is "praying" and "pleading" for her safe return ...

- This letter contains some disparaging type remarks :

Example : "A child develops ideas of their own. Sometimes a mom might disagree because of personal experiences and wisdom."

JMO, but this is "telling" ... so was there a "disagreement" ? I think so ...

JMO and MOO ...

from the Morgan Hill Times

Marlene LaMar, the mother of missing teen Sierra LaMar, released a statement today about the joys of being mother.

It reads:

“Mother’s Day is a time of reflection on what being a mom has brought to your life. Being a mom has been the greatest joy of my life. From the moment knew that a little life was growing inside me, there was an overwhelming need to protect and nurture my child. It’s not always an easy job. A child develops ideas of their own. Sometimes a mom might disagree because of personal experiences and wisdom. We hover, discipline and teach them to be responsible. We do these things because of our unconditional love for our children! I hope as mothers, we guide them to make good choices. Sierra is my miracle baby. I was told that because of my age, the likelihood of getting pregnant was slim. I knew she was going to be strong-willed the moment the doctor saw on the ultrasound that she was doing somersaults in utero.

“Regardless of the work it takes to raise children, the overwhelming love far outweighs those moments that you wonder how you’ll even make it through.

“The greatest gift that God has blessed me with is the joy of being a mom to two beautiful daughters. I love you Danielle and Sierra and I’m so proud to be you mom.”

Every day until they graduated?

Or are we talking little kids?
