I don't think tossing the cellphone and bag out the window along a fairly busy road necessarily indicates a disorganised perp.

An organised perp may well have rehearsed the most efficient way to conduct the abduction, including tossing practise items out the window (ordinary sorts of trash items that wouldn't draw undue attention if found, such as partially full water bottle). They'd have a checklist of tasks and what order to accomplish them.

If you consider that escape is among the priorities of an organised perp, then tossing the cellphone and bag was certainly effective in accomplishing it.

I'm not saying that either. I am saying the motivation for tossing the items where they were found depends on whether it is an organized or disorganized killer.

Doesn't LE have any kind of duty to the public to let them know if they feel there is a violent/serial offender involved, especially after so much time has passed? I have not seen any real warnings of any type issues.

In a word: No.

The US Supreme Court has ruled that police do not actually have any legal obligation to protect (forget about the fancy vow some departments have the rookies swear). It's nice when it happens but it is not legally required.

Furthermore, LE must always weigh all the possible consequences of such a warning. Will it actually deter the perpetrator? (the answer to this one is almost always no) Might it encourage panic or even vigilante acts? Might such a warning obstruct the investigation in some way, such as by sucking up resources to soothe panicky callers? (almost certainly)

You guys are cracking me up.
That little dude, that's kinda how I feel today (no panic just circle spinning). Perhaps I need to lay off the caffeine? lol

Your inner hamster is too caffeinated?

Still doesn't pan out to me. How often would someone hang around the area if they grabbed her? And would they really return to the area later on to dump a purse for no reason?

There is so much open area around there. If they already had her in the car, why not get away from her home, and why not dump the bag somewhere else where nobody would find it.

I still think the clothes were already in the bag, and the bag was THROWN within a matter of minutes of her being picked up.

If the perp was from the area, a local, and had to be in the area, for work, to greet his / her own children when they get home from school, had an appoitment they needed to keep, to not be known as absent from the area for a prolonged period of time, or even someone newish to the area who is not familiar with the roads yet. Just some ideas of why these items were found near her home and not 50 miles or more away.

The neatly folded clothes makes me suspect that the perp may have a female accomplice.

LE does not believe Sierra is a runaway and after this much time that has lapsed they would have information in order to rule it in but as of yesterday they say there is NO indication she ran away.

It is obvious they think something has happened to Sierra and think her body may still be in the area around where she lived. They arent searching in areas that would yield an alive Sierra, imo.

I have always believed the books were inside of her purse and it makes a lot of sense to me now that LE has ruled out Sierra being a runaway.

I am leaning more and more to this is how it went down:

He abducted her (with or without help) at the end of the driveway and he took her somewhere remote in the area and made her strip off including her panties and bra. He or they then took her clothes and her books and put them all inside the purse and then flung them out the window.

When he or they abducted her they threw the phone out first to make sure she could not try to call anyone.

I am also beginning to believe Sierra may be deceased. The perp or perps would not let her live knowing the case has gone national and the FBI is crawling everywhere in the area.

IMO

I talked my left-brain husband into helping with a "chunk the purse" experiment.

I put a pair of jean, t-shirt, bra, panties and a hard cover novel in a purse about the size of a Juicy bag. He chunked it over his head and into the pasture (simulating driver of car throw over the car) The purse was closed with a zipper. The clothes were still folded but moved from where I put them (on top) of the book.

I chunked it out (like I was a passenger) and the same thing happened, except it didn't travel as far, since I throw like a girl.

Did the same thing over again with a purse that just had a one snap closure. When left-brain did it, the bag opened and the book slide out with the clothes on top (still folded). When I chunked it, it didn't open.

Proves nothing, but my dogs are now going to start retrieving my purse if I do this again.

I am kind of surprised mom hasn't said something that she might have been excited about, like her sister being there for the weekend. A hair color appt seems mundane in comparison, imo.

SBM

Not to some adolescents! To the adolescent I keep in my attic, a hair colour appointment requires a period of planning that compares to planning D-Day... except there is more at stake with the hair and it requires even more attention to detail than some mouldy old battle.

I was never a girly-girl, so keeping one has been quite the education for me.

Tangential note: out of curiosity I asked her mother if she would notice any clothes missing. We both burst into gales of laughter and agreed that we would have not the faintest clue if there were missing clothes, shoes, bags, makeup, brushes, etc.

I have no idea of what she has in the black hole that is her room and, frankly, I think I'm happier not knowing.

Did you know that some tote bags have to be *ironed*?????

The fact that LE sat on the info. about finding the purse for several days before releasing it to the public, makes me think that they were not going to give the public that information but someone else (maybe the FBI) thought it would be a good chance to communicate with the perp and that is why terms such as "secreted" and "neatly folded" may not make sense to the public... Odd terminology has seemingly only been used in regards to the purse.

nutkin, get outta my head! :floorlaugh:
I was thinking along the same lines as most of yor posts. This one in particular. Remember the sniper duo who pinned notes near to where the shots were fired from and left instructions to LE to communicate with them using key words and phrases? This came to mind for me by the unusual wording in the press ops. :moo:

1) the fact that a child is missing from the end of her driveway and it is not in her nature to run away
2) *possible* urine on the clothing in the bag
3) bag and phone found but not Sierra
4) dog lost her scent at the end of the driveway
5)she had plans for coming weekends

these are the few of the things that altogether lend me to the thought that this could be a crime and someone took Sierra vs any other sort of scenario:moo:

again, just jumping off this post - had a thought!?

I wonder WHAT Sierra's plans were for that weekend - St. Paddy's day, as she said she couldn't make it to Fremont until the following weekend - 3/24, and her father/sister made a hair appointment for that day (3/24); what was so urgent that weekend that she couldn't see her sister, who just got on spring break and your dad THAT weekend? Has anyone 'seen' anything mentioned if she had big plans that weekend? :waitasec:

What? *shudders* I've never ironed one article of clothing in my entire life. I am thankful for dryers that take out wrinkles in clothing.

Using your post as a jumping off point, I used to deliver newspapers to the stores for a number of years, it is much easier to toss them over the roof and have them land where you want them to, than it is to sling them out the passenger window. Even when I had a ride-along with me, they found it awkward to toss the bundles to the right from the passenger window. FWIW!

That made me smile. :) My mama says that to me often.

Did LE ever release a picture of the Juicy bag? Forgive me frantically trying to keep up. I have one of their bags and was curious due to the way mine closes.

No kidding. That was rather hard to toss that purse pretending to be sitting in a car. (We were sitting on our patio couch)

They showed a picture on the NG show. The WORD "juicy" was written on the bag. I can't find a match. Maybe it's from 2011 or 2010.

I did this as an early morning job for 18 years, yup, much easier to go over the roof.

I couldn't find it either. I wonder if they have "outlet" stores. Or, I wonder if they have the really expensive purses like this at a store like Ross. I know they do have some sort of high-end stuff.

I totally agree. I would have no idea what was missing or not missing in my daughter's 'closet, which actually extends from the closet itself to the chair, the end of her bed and the floor. And she and her friends are always wearing each other's clothes, which used to make me angry at the time.

Also, just because Sierra snapped a picture of herself wearing the Sharks sweatshirt that morning, it does not mean she was actually wearing it when she went out the door. I would drive my DD to school when she was 15 and sometimes she would be all ready to go and I would walk to the car, and moments later she would appear in the driveway in a totally different hoodie and different shoes. 15 yr olds change outfits at the drop of a hat, imo.
