There is a very precise reason.
Moo but its common sense that the perp is going to want time and distance to beable to be between themselves and the bag(which equals discovering Sierra's missing) ..so while IMO it was imperative that this bag with clothes and books was to be found in order to help point to an abduction on the way to school or possible runaway.. BUT THEY COULD NOT HAVE IT DISCOVERED BEFORE BEING ABLE TO PUT TIME AND DISTANCE BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND THE CRIME.. with the phone no problem as its the size of ones hand thrown off the side of the road into brush and weeds easily concealed for the time being.. the bag not so easy.. as if its tossed off to the side of the road its very much large enough and colorful enough to be much more easily spotted..

So what's the smart thing to do? ..to place it somewhere where its hidden plenty enough to know it won't be immediately found.. but yet in a very very close radius to the home as well as even closer radius to the phone and knowing that upon searching it'd be found..

If he/she put the bag in "plain sight", as y ou state above, it would have been counterproductive to ensuring the perp had plenty of time to put the necessary time and distance between himself and the crime.. as well as to likely build an alibi.. the plain sight dump was not an option.. there was a very deliberate reason that the bag and books were placed on the side of that building.

What was the reason it was placed there? Imo, it was just a place to hide the evidence. We dont know how long it had layed there. It could have been done sometime on Friday too...we just dont know... all we know it took them until Sunday evening to find it. It wouldnt take them but a few minutes to put a distance away from her home. I certainly dont think they went back and hid it on Sunday. I think it was done on Friday and not discovered until Sunday. There was no assurances that it wouldnt have been found on the Saturday when they found the cell phone.

Of course he wasnt going to put the purse in plain sight. I really dont think he wanted it found just like a lot of other criminals throw things out that belongs to the victim thinking they have outsmarted police.

It looks like they picked that particular place to throw the purse out because it was abandoned.

No one that I know has said it was placed on the side of the building. When it was tossed it landed behind the cactus and got wedged between it and the building. I looked at the photo again and it seems to have landed more behind the bushy cactus than closer to the building.

The phone being smaller in the tall grass would be harder to find but they found that right away.

Sorry, I am tired, and may not be understanding your post fully.

Smooth,
I can follow your ideas and they make sense to me.

Couldnt placing the bag in this location also just have been in a panic last minute. Lets say...They are local to this neighborhood and wouldnt be suspicious being seen there in the area. They had already found a spot to dispose of Sierra and were headed home, may have even went home and found the bag under the front seat or out of previous view and had to quickly go back out and dump it before they were expected home or were found late getting home?
It does seem like it could be a last minute attempt to stage the abduction.

Yes I totally agree with you on this as a possibility.. I've always felt that the bag wasn't tossed and that it wasn't done at the same time the phone was tossed.. that's in going with the theory of it not being someone from the home....jmo, tho. .

So who do you think kidnapped her? An aquaintance or a stranger?

imo

The police on the scene believe it may have been thrownout from a moving vehicle and they say Sierra has been kidnapped so that doesnt sound to me like they believe it was made to look like anything other than what it is. Someone trying to get rid of evidence by pitching it out.

If they wanted to make it look like an abduction then why not do it much closer to the bus stop or her home instead of two miles down the road? Why not leave her books sprawled in the driveway.

imo

Any thoughts on the books being disorganized or falling out of the bag if it was thrown from the car?

Hi ocean.. I believe if you go up to post 780 and click on the link to the theory that we discussed last night that it should all make better sense..

I realize it greatly differs from yours and that's OK, too:)..just because we may not agree on certain issues or cases I still have great respect for you and your posts.

I don't think we have enough information from LE to make an informed decision.

A sock is an odd choice, as far as smelling someone, clothes, tops especially are going to smell like the person, their beauty products, etc. I mean not to be gross but underwear may have other scents again on top of that, whereas a sock goes in a likely smellier shoe, furthest away from lingering shampoo, lotion, deodorant, perfume, makeup odours that we associate with a person unconsciously.

My mind is still open to all possibilities.. I don't believe we have near enough info to know anything is for sure the truth of what really happened..

IMO: this was a murder set up to look like a kidnapping.

99, I am not sarx but it was explained that dogs can track the freshest scent vs older scent re: her previous walks to the bus stop

I really dont have an solid opinion about that 90Nine. Great to see you btw.

All I know is Sheriff Smith did not know if the books were inside the bag or outside ( wish she would have asked her investigator about that before she came on to talk to the media) but she did say that the items may have been tossed from a moving vehicle. Now Marc Klass who has been on the ground there for sometime and I know he has spoken to LE .........says he believes the items were tossed from a window of a vehicle.

Thats all I know and Nancy asking Marlene if the books could fit inside and I think she said they would be 'squshed' but that tends to make me think that it was doable even though it may have been a tight fit.

If everything in the purse was tight then I can see why nothing would come out of the purse when tossed.

IMO

Lol.. 90Nine! Jinx as we posted basically the same exact answer ..lol.. great minds think alike and all that good stuff.. lol..

IMHO I really think she was taken outside . I also believe argue as much as you want the clothes in the bag are not the ones she left the house in. I also think she knew the person who took her either she went willing which would explain no sign of struggle at the end of the driveway.

If you all look at the map of the street up close, you can see that the only house that could actually see anything happening in front of Sierra's home is the one with the circular driveway across the street. That house just sold on the 12th of March, so not sure if anyone was living there. Curious to know if the new people moved in yet. Lots of people could come around during a move...stuff happens when change occurs...not implying anything though.

I doubt Sierra's feet stank.

Marlene may have found Sierra's socks on the floor of her bedroom and picked them up to smell Sierra's scent.

I dont find anything odd about that.

Well, you speak truth about that; however, as we discussed earlier, IMO, I still think it was the first small item of clothing the mom saw that she could keep with her in her pocket, both to comfort herself and also in case LE needed a scent item, especially for the scent of her feet.

The Websleuths Radio chat room is now open! The show will start in about 30 minutes! See you there! :seeya:

JMO but the way the Sheriff talked about the items found, I got the impression that her books were not inside the bag but were found at the same location. If they were inside the bag, I think she would have said so.

They confirmed her clothes were, why not mention the books as well?

Just being devil's advocate here, sorta, it might also smell like baby powder and lotion. I agree with you but I also think that many girls, especially if they live in warmer states or if summer is around the corner, put special lotions on their feet to keep 'em pretty. :)
