Why does it always seem like the drunker driver is the one who walks away while innocent people die at their expense. So horrible. My thoughts go out to the families of all those killed.

Can anybody help me understand why a mother of a 2 week old is out drinking in the early morning hours, in the first place?

There was also a wrong-way driver accident in Florida early yesterday & 4 college students & the wrong way driver were killed in a firey crash. That driver has not been identified & it is unknown if alcohol was involved. Another driver happened to catch the FL wrong way accident on video.

Let's hope this selfish driver had insurance.

Even if she did, a daily pass from jail in order to work and pay compensation to the innocent families would be in order, imo. Let her out when the compensation is paid.

I don't know if anybody caught it in the linked article, but the San Bernardino Sun is reporting she had a previous conviction for DUI at age 17, and two other citations. Got her license back in 2011. Unfortunately.

That video was heartbreaking, hearing that woman scream as she realized what had happened. I'm glad she wasn't caught up in it too.

Olivia Carolee Culbreath, 21, of Fontana was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk and causing great bodily injury and manslaughter after a crash that killed 6 people Sunday on the 60 in Diamond Bar.

Well, it's a freeway so I would say 65mph. But, most peeps drive 70 or 75mph. I understand that the alleged drunk driver was going 100 mph.

I previously described this act as premeditated murder which I stand by, but also included selfish which needs correcting imo.

In light of the updated information, selfish can only apply to her previous disregard of the rules of the shared roads she drives on, imo. To get her license back after 4 years of problems with her conduct and still disregard the rules and others on the road - well that's a whole new ballgame, imo.

Sociopath? Megalomaniac? Seems impossible to get through to this person with the punishment handed down so far. I'm glad her baby is out of her hands, at least for now, but worried where she learned this attitude.

When I was 16, my great uncle was driving my grandmother and me somewhere. He got on a freeway going the wrong way. Both my grandmother (who had never driven in her life) and me were screaming at him to pull over, that he was going the wrong way. I have to wonder if the passengers were so wasted themselves that they didn't realize they were going the wrong way, or if they realized it and the driver didn't care.

I was glad to see that the courts took the driver's previous driving infractions seriously. But I'm just stunned that anyone would go out and do something like that.

I had also previously referred to this as premeditated murder. Now, of course, I am more convinced than ever.

The CA. courts have a chance to make an example of this person. She should be charged with first degree murder and given a life sentence.

If a guy robs a liquor store, runs from the police and in the process of the chase 6 people were killed, he would be charged with murder. This is no different. In fact, it may be worse as she knew full well she had a problem with alcohol.

Give her poor child a chance to be raised by a decent human being.

A Fontana woman accused of drunken driving in a February 2014 wrong-way crash that left six people dead was under sedation and wasn’t being prepared to go into surgery when an emergency room physician drew a blood sample, he testified in court Wednesday.

Dr. Christopher Coyne, an emergency room physician at Los Angeles County-USC Medical center at the time of the crash, testified in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday that Olivia Carolee Culbreath was “under what we call deep sedation.”

She had suffered traumatic injuries in the crash and was in grave to serious condition, Coyne said. She had been administered a sedative and was also receiving strong pain medication when he drew a blood sample.

Defense lawyers are attempting to show that the blood evidence collected the morning of the crash — which occurred three years ago — should not be part of the state’s case against Culbreath, who is facing six counts of murder.

Proceedings in the case are expected to resume March 3.

Before then, Culbreath’s lawyers will review the medical professionals’ testimony and have it reviewed by medical experts before returning to court to present an argument for their case, Sheahen said.

Outside court, Sheahen said he does not foresee calling any medical experts to testify for the defense.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Friday declined to throw out blood evidence in the case against a Fontana woman accused of driving drunk and the wrong way on the 60 Freeway and causing a crash that left six people dead.

The ruling handed down in a downtown Los Angeles courthouse came after a series of three hearings spread out over January and February during which California Highway Patrol officers and medical personnel who treated Olivia Carolee Culbreath testified about the events that followed the Feb. 9, 2014, crash.

After the hearing, defense attorney Daniel Perlman said the ruling will be reviewed and checked for errors.

He also believes there are more obstacles for the prosecution to overcome. For the blood to be admissible in court, it must have been drawn within three hours of the driver being stopped and the samples were taken more than three hours after the crash, he said.

The two sides are expected to be back in court April 18 to possibly set a trial.
