CA CA - Skip, 55, & Joni Tillman, 51, La Canada, 7 Feb 2000

Not sure if I touched on this. My dad has myself and my sister who is 2 years younger than I am. I prefer to leave that out of my areas to comment on for now. I was a very stressful time and I have no first hand information on much. There was a will. There was a codicil to that will that I was not all together sure had been signed by my dad. Or willingly anyway but that is just my opinion. I do not think I even still have a copy of the will I will have to look at my records soon. Joni never had children and my father had no others.

Almost forgot. We lived in CA when my mom and skip divorced. That was approximately 1972 or maybe 1973. He was married briefly to a lady named Linda if I am not mistaken for a short time. Then he met Joni and they were married in Carmel the last year I saw him I think in 1979 as I was 10. The last time I saw them they lived in LaCanada still. So he originally moved to CA after my sister was born in 1971 as we were both born in WA. They divorced by the time I was 2 and he remained in Orange County. Rarely left CA for anything.

I can ask. My last questions to the detectives have gone unanswered and I have never requested a death certificate but can try and do so.

I looked and looked and couldn't come up with anything even close. Inspired again!

All other lawsuits and bills were (to the best of my knowledge) paid from the estate before it was even considered for distribution. I still have questions regarding the codicil but those are my personal opinion. Everything they had was sold and then distributed. The "job" of executor I think went from a lawyer friend of my dad, to a lady friend of theirs (idk her name off hand however her position as a probation officer or parole officer struck me as odd as that didn't seem to fit the "profession" of someone Skip and Joni would associate with.) and then finally to (leaving out for privacy at this point-being unsure if it is public knowledge and avoiding stress for that family at this time) after all the bills and suits were paid the rest was distributed to myself, my sister, my aunt (skips' sister), my grandma (skips' mom) and i will have to look to see if anyone was. I would have to say benefit would have been for anyone who may not have won their suit. Have considered that the placement in the "garbage dump" and their deaths may have been more symbolic or like a warning, sending a msg, possibly???

This post just inspired a memory that another beneficiary of the estate was (unsure which one) a member of the Martinez family. I met them when I was younger. I was told that my Dad was like and uncle to their kids, they were close friends and that they had received financial help from my dad and Joni.

The next inspiration was from a conversation I had with the psychic who worked on the "psychic challenge". Our conversations were few and mostly she talked about our personal relationship (my dad and I) however she had commented that she "didn't know how Joni could sleep at night, no matter how much medication she took she could not ignore the phone calls that came every night with the warning" something to that effect. I never had opportunity to ask her to elaborate. I did however pose the conversation to 1 or more of the detectives asking if they could trace the phone records or if they had any information with regard to the phone calls. I was never really given any indication that they took the information seriously or even understood what I was telling them.

Skip Tillman was registered agent for Beverly Hills Dental Radiology & Imaging Inc. And, listed as "president" of this company was DLN. The company was incorporated in 1993, and DLN would have been about 19 years old (which, imo, is rather young, but not unheard of).

Nye (a dentist) was licensed in California, and at some point changed his name to Newhart. Per news reports, Dr Newhart was arrested recently for bank robbery. He was already on probation in Orange County, and in 2010 he pleaded guilty to grand theft and passing a bad check.

I haven't looked to see if he had any criminal/legal problems prior to 2010.

I previously posted a reply to include my thought that a friendship with a probation/parole officer seemed out of place for them. The person, I think, was originally a friend of from high school of Joni's. When i read the attached post my stomach dropped and I suddenly became a little concerned and very conscious about posting names.

I had sent an email to the detectives about the McStay family and the similarities to my case however they just dismissed it and never dignified it with an answer.

If that was a "paid hit" It was not a professional hit. This was sloppy. Buried two and was found because the dog with tags was found close by. Left there vehicle parked in an open area where it would/had been found later. The graves pre dug than it was premeditated and was planned by someone................Didn't they used the sliding glass door to let the dog out at times to use the bathroom?..........Usually before one has you killed over something, you have a chance to make right. Especially over money...Since no large withdrawals were made from there account/accounts. Do you know it by chance they kept money in the house for emergencies. Such as 5 or 10 thousand dollars??

ADDON....Do you kow if any relatives of his or hers had a drug habit. Such as Meth or Heroin?

Detectives have stopped answering my emails. I attempted to get a copy of the death certificate and realized the fee for that had quadrupled so will have to wait for payday. Not sure if they have made that public or private information. Hence the thought to try and get a copy of the certificate. There was a bag found in the SUV with their documents in it, passports specifically, the police assumed that it was mistakenly left behind. Citing the theory that it was an attempt to make it seem they had left the country or area anyway without notice. Which would not be like them at all.

On facebook, I was asked if I knew 2 people who sent requests for admission to the group. I don't have full names so pm me if you'd like and i can talk to them. I have asked feelings on adding people as safety is still a concern for many and it is a closed group. Not to intentionally oust anyone. I just think maybe asking them to come here will suit them better so they can do "this" if they would like and save the other for mourning and sharing. Will let you know the out come. I have always been way more open than most and just tell what i know, the way i know it. Learning that is not the way of the world most know. thanks again.

The dentist is the first I have heard of any activity amongst anyone they knew. Doesn't mean it didn't go on. My dad always carried $100 bills in his wallet to my recollection 5-10 of them and wasn't big on banks. I don't know about Joni and her cash money habits and was too young to think of such things at a younger age. I am to think the detectives found the usual purse/wallet/nightstand type money when they came in but I do not have that on fact. The stated simply "nothing had been taken".

my thoughts were like your with regard to repenting for the crime. one of the psychics was the only mention, but one had referred to "calls Joni would receive at night". I thought possibly the will would reflect something with possibility to someone being repaid for their loss but do not claim to know what went on with regard to their dealings. You all have found more information than I have ever known. I spoke to my aunt last week who confirmed the same and she had been to visit them years after he and I were estranged. He could be very private and was never one to speak freely about much of anything.

tamijt4:

My condolences to you and your sister and grandmother for your great loss.
I looked and looked for their dates of birth, an obituary and could not find any, so I wondered if you had one or knew their dates of birth?

You can always PM me if you wish.

I am still puzzled a little at why the Sheriff's department told me that they were found in "an abandoned landfill". I thought it was odd that people would jog near a garbage dump. Must have been some kind of "reaction test" for me or something....

Just realized I had never thought to ask how they found the SUV?? Everything just glazes over it, saying just "they found it".

I don't think they ever owned a home. They rented in Glendale if I am not mistaken. When I found out they had moved I assumed it was to buy a house but was informed it was a rental. He was not one to pay taxes, child support, anything with regard to the gov't to the best of my knowledge. I'm not even sure if they had bank accounts but they must have. I could see them doing the house renovation simply because they were going to live there for some time and wanted it a certain way. It may have been at the time Joni received her inheritance however I have no knowledge of when that all came into play.

This was written with regard to the timeline and how it played out, I just copied it so you all could keep going while we work out getting others on here. I have asked a few people some of the questions raised here and will just relay for now unless they pop up here or decided to add people on Facebook. The sad truth is, this is going to inevitably end with someone close having a part or at least knowledge of what happened. It will be a miracle if it was just random. From a close friend

"I checked the link and read some of the comments already posted and there appears to be some misinformation. From what I recall, The hiker didn't find Teddy the next day (Monday Feb. 7th). The Eller's didn't gain entrance to the house the next day. Skip Tillman missed some appointments the next day, according to his business associate, Janet. Joni and Skip and Teddy were (from what detectives told us) abducted from the home and taken to the grave site in their vehicle. Supposedly Teddy was taken because the abductors wanted to make it look like the Tillman's left town. The dog must have gotten away but later returned to the area of the grave site and died (of exposure?). The dog and the grave site was discovered, I believe on Wednesday the 9th. As I recall being told that was the day the Eller's gained entrance to the house and heard the message on the phone from the man finding the dog. The Tillman's Dodge Durango was later found in the Van Nuys area. The original Sheriff Det Gillman met with a group of us at Mary's home a couple months after the murder and offered the above info plus said the Joni and Skip were subdued and bound at the house and driven to the Yucaipa area, in their vehicle, along with Teddy. To my knowledge neither Joni nor Skip had any ties to Yucaipa other than to drive through on the way to Palm Springs. As was retold to me ~ the night of the abduction Joni and Skip returned to their home from dinner, Joni took a shower, washed and was drying the sweater Skip wore to dinner and was sitting in the den with a glass of tea (iced) probably reading. ~ Skip more than likely changed clothes and was probably in his office working, until he took Teddy out to pee just before bed. (Since I lived with Joni and Skip years earlier, I knew their routine.) this would have been a normal evening in the Tillman household."

June 27th for Skip and February 16th for Joni. In 2011 she would have been 63 posts say and my dad would have been 67. Wow I just realized she would be 67 and he would have been 71 in 2 days. Amazing how time flies by. He will just always be 50 to me I suppose.

I went looking for an obituary. I wasn't notified that they were dead until after they had been buried. I posted the articles that I found that I hadn't seen posted here yet in case anyone wants them. Each seems to have some little bit of information that was not mentioned to the best of my knowledge.

******This has mention to their belongings. I had recently asked the detective if they had their "personal effects" and was never given a straight answer "because it may be information that is pertinent to the case". Ok thanks now I know it was public information. They probably just got rid of it all I'd imagine. All they would tell me about the Durango is that "the insurance paid the estate for it". Wow I could have cared less about that. I want to know if this is ever solved if I can retrieve their things from the police.

****this one made me wonder how the sheets could have been turned down yet they found a matching sheet at the scene. Their house was always so perfect I would think the bed would have been "pulled apart" to remove a sheet from it....just a thought.

**********I was unaware this even existed until this page. Going to find out if they produced the show I posted above or if it was a totally different deal. Wondering why they were so sure and nothing transpired.
