I hope she'll be found one day... does seem most probable that she got turned around and accidentally fell somewhere :( It's tragic and upsetting that it's so easy for people to get lost in the wilderness and never be found.
Yeah, it really is tragic. She just went out to take some pictures and was never seen again. So young… It’s heartbreaking.

Here's a link to a post I made a long time ago with links to Google Earth showing the location of the lakes and the camp site. View in 3D to see there was a large hill between the camp and the lakes.

CA - Stacy Arras, 14, Yosemite National Park, 17 Jul 1981

I also noticed Tenaya Lake and Tenaya Creek and Canyon are just beyond the Sunrise Lakes. Here's a photo of Tenaya Canyon

So what's the speculation about Stacy's fate at the other web sites?

I only recall reading one several years ago that proposed these missing persons in national parks had been abducted by aliens from other planets. Is that still the most popular theory?

Spot on.

Thanks. That photo of the canyon is just terrifying.

I assume the best thing Stacy could have done when she realized she was lost would be to stop, sit down and try to stay warm for the night. Wait until morning, when people will come looking for you. Right?

Yes that’s always the best thing, stop sit and wait and they will have a good chance of finding you. She likely panicked and kept moving.

I don't know what it is about being lost in the woods/wilderness, but some sort of psychosis seems to take over. I read an interesting article about it once. It could be a combination of panic, dehydration, exhaustion and hunger. There were also a couple of cases where the lost person had access to a phone, called for help, they gave a detailed description of where they were, was told to stay put, and then they were found deceased miles from the description of where they called from.
