Authorities search for Anderson veteran missing since mid-February | KRCR (krcrtv.com)

Authorities asking for the public's help to find a veteran who has been missing for more than three weeks now.
  • 59-year-old Steven Bedwell was last heard from on Feb.17, when he texted a social worker that he was going to the Stockton area to visit family.
  • On March 5, the Veterans Affairs Office contacted the Anderson Police Department and reported that Bedwell had been missing since Feb. 17.
  • Bedwell, who served in Marine Corps and the Navy, is considered at-risk because he suffers from PTSD.
  • He was last seen driving a 2015 Nissan four-door sedan with CA plate 8BNZ650.
  • Bedwell may also have his dog "Skippy" with him.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call the Anderson Police Department tip line at (530) 224-8435.

One neighbor claimed that Bedwell "always [kept] to himself and [was] secluded for long periods of time, but never this long."


Another neighbor wrote of the missing veteran: "He is a very sweet guy and... quiet."

Anyone with information on Bedwell's whereabouts is asked to contact the Anderson Police Department Main Line at (530) 378-6600 or the Anderson Police Department Tip Line at (530) 224-8435.

that is a long ways with a lot of vast secluded places along the way. Stockton itself is sketch but he could be anywhere over a lot of area.

On Saturday, March 20 authorities found Bedwell's abandoned vehicle in a remote area of Shingletown and a man's body was found nearby.

The Shasta County Coroners Office responded to the scene. They will be conducting an autopsy to identify the cause of death and will be working to confirm the identity of the deceased individual. Investigators said no foul play is suspected.

Dang it ! - he was only about 30 minutes from home. Unfortunately, it was east instead of south. I wonder if it was ever determined if his doggie was with him. :(

ETA - From comments on this LE post and snooping other places, it appears his dog was found and is safe !
