Now they are looking for a lost hiker and a shooter.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/california-police-hunt-suspect-remote-canyon-after-search-volunteer-shot-n627036

"Swat teams were scouring a remote canyon in northern California early Wednesday after a search-and-rescue volunteer was shot while hunting for a missing hiker, officials said.
The volunteer was shot in the hip while they and two colleagues were searching for the 75-year-old hiker in Nevada County, around 65 miles northeast of Sacramento."

Very very weird

So now they can't search for this poor man because someone is shooting at the search and rescue team? WTF!

Sounds like hiker and rescuer both might have stumbled onto either somebody's mining claim or more likely grow area.

Some jerk playing target practice may have cost an innocent hiker his life because rescuers could no longer search for him. He remains missing. Tragic for him and his family. =(

When they find the shooter, he needs to also be held (at least partially) liable for the outcome of Mr. Hansston status.

Maybe that should be IF they find the shooter... sadly, it doesn't sound like they're looking.

The report says they stopped (physically?) searching for the shooter, but that instead they are pursuing his identity.

"Authorities have stopped searching for both a suspect who shot a Search and Rescue volunteer and the man whose disappearance led the searchers to enter the Yuba River canyon, Sheriff Keith Royal said Thursday.

Deputies now have pivoted their investigation toward leads they’ve received about the shooter’s identity, Royal added."
