While it's obviously possible, I think she's really young to have been raped as part of a gang initiation. While I've heard of "kids" being involved in such things, it's usually post-puberty teens... not pre-puberty 10 year olds. If a gang was involved at all, I would think it was more likely that it was retribution against an older sibling or, possibly, parent. Maybe they were supposed to scare her/rough her up and someone thought it went too far (maybe because of a sexual element on some individual gang member's part) and released her?

A gang of teen boys are accused of savagely raping an 11-year-old girl they lured from a California shopping mall and brutalized in the dank men's room of a nearby park, police said.

The oldest of the alleged attackers is Michael Sykes, 19, who was arrested Monday following a two-week manhunt. He is charged with rape, sodomy and assault of a minor.

Sykes is the oldest and last charged member of a group of seven other teens who police say are all members of a local street gang known as the South Side Mafia.

The March 10 rape may have been part of a perverse gang initiation rite, according to police who said the teens would be further prosecuted on gang-enhanced charges and could be charged as adults.

From the series of events that we can't discuss because they were on scanner I strongly believe that is 100% true.

I don't doubt that those kinds of awful things happen. In this case the series of events the way they were and the timing of when the gang task force was called makes me feel that it wasn't the case in this situation.

Or maybe it's just for her sake that I so want that to desperately be true.

Sorry. I may be getting confused. I thought they had reported in the media early that they were out helping with door to door and what not. I know they called for them right after as well but I thought they were already involved. will go back and look.

I wish so badly I could say what I want to say to explain, but I think they just wanted as many officers at the scene as they could get. They were trying to contain and make sure people didn't leave and what not. I'm pretty sure that LE said several times that they were just concerned with her health and welfare at the scene she was found, and that they were not seriously questioning her yet. I think if it was a gang related thing that wouldn't of been figured out until after she was at the hospital.

I could be wrong, but that's how things played out in the media in my eyes.

ETA: With the response she got I think the guys that sweep the police station were even involved in the door to door lol. I do remember hearing about the FBI helping with it though. It's not normal for them to do that kind of stuff is it?

****** told police she did not know the men, one of whom was described as about 18 years old. She told police they had taken her from her house to an abandoned home nearby and then to a storage facility before dropping her off at Kaiser Permanente's Woodland Hills Medical Center.

Police said Wednesday night they already had one vehicle in custody and were looking for a second. They said it was unclear why anyone would have wanted to kidnap ******, and they did not know Wednesday what had happened to her during the time she was gone.

the variety of locations in such a short time indicates multiple people involved and coordinated.

RSBM: I drew the opposite conclusion - that is was an utterly disorganized and choatic situation.

Regardless, so glad she has been found. I was going to say that I was glad she is safe, but is she at this point? And the emotional toll - I can't even fathom. so many hugs for this girl.

How did investigators come up w/ the age of 1 of the perps being around 18 years old? Did the girl say that from the description? Or were her abductors captured on camera somewhere?

Are the suspects White, Black, Latino, Asian, etc? Tall or short? Thin or thick? Bald or hairy? Tattooed or not? Pierced or not? Something. Anything. I mean, they went into their house & abducted a 10 y/o little girl. This crap freaks me out!
