GUILTY CA - Todd Chance, 45, murdered, Bakersfield, 25 Aug 2013 *wife arrested*

  • #21
I for one would be a bad eyewitness. Not good at weight or height.

I think she gave a pretty good description. The height seems to fit and if the eye witness is a slim woman herself she may think 145 pounds is an overweight woman around the size of his wife. She even described her brown hair that she had tucked up under the ball cap. It shows she was trying to disguise her facial features and long hair.

Just for educational purposes - the ideal weight range for a 5'6"tall female is between 126 and 143 pounds. Of course body type and age play into maintaining weight within the ideal range. For me, I know when I'm looking at someone who is overweight though even though I may not know the number. So I would describe a person to police as chubby or apple shaped or ample but not use obese unless they were, etc. That would be more helpful imo. Nobody can look at a person from afar and tell their exact height and weight.

If it turns out the perp isn't the wife, the fact that she appears overweight imo may be what saves her from immediate persecution. And, that may be a first!

Of course, I'd like to know whether or not we're looking at a current picture/video.
Also I'm only posting my immediate response to what I read and see because something didn't ring true to me and crossed my mind.

But you can tell tall, short, big, little, skinny, fat, average, huge, right?
Giving exact height and weight is ridiculous imo.

Thank you. It is always great to see you too Bravo!:seeya:

Something was going on behind the scene I think that will come out later.

Who knows what the motive may have been. I guess we will have to wait and see if more info comes forward.

This is what I'm interested in knowing. What could have caused the wife to turn on him (if she did).

Yes that is exactly how I would describe a person. Yet it appears this eyewitness did give numbers.

Not sure which show I had on earlier this eve as I was at work :blushing: I know it was HLN. It was reported that Leslie did not attend todays Funeral on the advice of her Lawyer.

Wow, I wonder what's going on.
I'd be livid if I sat in the pokey for however many days for something I didn't do, especially being accused of murdering my husband!
I'm really curious about this case due to the circumstances of her arrest and release. I think I'd be scared too and not sure how to act. Sure is peculiar.

I suspect it will be one of the same reasons why men kill their wives.

1. Murdered spouse could have been having an affair. (jealousy)
2. Financial gains. (life insurance) Family could have been having financial difficulty with or without the knowledge of the murdered victim.
3. Murdered spouse had mentioned wanting a divorce.
4. Offender could have been having an affair and wanted the spouse out of the way.

It really runs the gambit but usually it comes down to one of these I have listed.

Yep, she has already lawyered up and even taking his advice not to attend the funeral of the husband she uhhh errr...supposedly adored.

BAKERSFIELD - Todd Chance, the Bakersfield man found dead in a field last month, was laid to rest Wednesday but family members says his wife, Leslie Chance did not attend.

Sheriff's deputies released her from jail Tuesday but say they still consider her the prime suspect in Todd Chance's murder.

I actually think his daughters are going to be very helpful in solving this case since this happened on Sunday and a holiday weekend. Imo, they very well could have seen their parents leave together that morning at 7:30 am and their mother was seen behind the wheel driving his Mustang.

So how did someone else get the car she was driving in such a short time? And there may be more witnesses that saw her driving the car as well.

I really never thought about height and weight combined and what the person should weigh if they are average.

If I described a woman weighing 145 pounds in my mind rightly or wrongly I would be trying to describe someone I thought was a little chubby.

I doubt the woman meant to convey these were exact heights and weights. It was a guesstimate on her part, imo.

And I noticed in the article about Todd's funeral that he looks like he had lost weight from previous photos I have seen of him. She too may have been on a diet as well and was exercising too.

Someone posted on the Bakersfield KGET Facebook that the Ford Mustang was returned to LC, the wife of TC, on September 6.

What happens now?

No one else has been arrested yet for TC's shooting. However, no press conference has been held and also as far as I know the Police have not told the public to be careful as a shooter is on the loose. They surely must have a suspect and in my opinion, investigators are gathering more evidence to make their current case stronger. And arrest will be made at some stage, and it will be no surprise who they will arrest....

Here's a little more info about the Mustang. The lawyer is having it examined in case his client is arrested again. LE potentially could take the car back if that happens.

What the heck?

why would a lawyer advise someone not to attend their husband's funeral? I don't understand how that could be harmful to her defense whether she's guilty or not ... and especially after the charges were dropped

I can't figure out why a lawyer would advise not going to the funeral either. I'm wondering if some family members might believe she had something to do with it, so maybe he thought it was best for her to stay away and lay low?

Either way, I'm not sure anyone could keep me from my hubby's funeral, but everyone is different, I suppose.

After all that, the immediate arrest and all, this case fades into nothing.
I don't know what to think.

Jane Velez Mitchell talked about this case tonight. Unfortunately I was in the kitchen with my hands full and couldn't sit down to watch or take notes. Some points were made as to why the wife was released from jail and some details were discussed that I've not heard before. Something about the husband's body not being in the field at 7:30 a.m. but was there two hours later. Not sure the significance of that.
The show doesn't repeat tonight so I'll look for the transcript tomorrow if its even available that soon.
