Todd Willis, 52, has gone missing since at least 8 a.m. Thursday, last seen at 4:30 a.m. and was discovered missing during an inmate count at 11 a.m.

Willis is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 270 pounds, with graying brown hair, brown eyes and a tattoo on his chest.

He entered the state prison system from Sacramento County in January 2016. He has been serving a four-year sentence for assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury by a individual with a second strike under California’s “three strikes” law. He was scheduled to be released in July 2018.

I always marvel that prisoners stupidly walk away when they have relatively little time left to serve. It clearly shows they lack patience, impulse control and a sense of consequences...traits that caused them to get into trouble in the first place. When he’s caught...and he will be, hopefully before he reoffends...he will be facing much longer than the nine months he had left to serve. No doubt he will be placed in solitary confinement for a time too. Was it worth it? JMO

To me, the second photo looks like a driver’s license because of the blue background. GigTu, can you check your license and verify that? But the checked shirt in the first photo doesn’t look like a prison uniform. I’m not sure what they wear in minimum security. Either way, we know what he looks like with long hair and a beard or short hair, no beard, so that’s a help.

That same blue background appears on most of the driver's license photos, and I trust that is also the case here. I've been reading and watching videos, and this guy was scheduled for release in about 6 months, but qualified to be released in November of this year. He just needed to tough out 1 more month. Why destroy every chance at freedom when it's just a few weeks away? Weird decision.

How does someone go missing from a prison??

It’s a minimum security part of the prison and prisoners have more freedom of movement and are probably checked on less often. He was last seen at 4:30 a.m. and was missed during a count at 11:00 a.m. They think he disappeared after 8:00 a.m.

California's second oldest prison, Folsom State Prison (FSP), primarily houses Medium Security General Population Level II and Level III male inmates. Additionally, Folsom houses Minimum Security Level I male inmates within a minimum security facility located just outside of the main security perimeter.

Here is another photograph of him. It's from the article in the OP, by the bottom. He is a man of many looks.

Maybe he wasn't ready to be released next month so he left knowing he would get caught and have more time added. Or he could just be really stupid I guess.

I'll go with your door number three... stupid.

Ha! Well, that’s always a possibility. You may be onto something! Things aren’t always as they seem.

The first one looks like a mug shot to me.

This guy had one more month. What time in November do prisoners get released? He may have been released the first of the month. This means he had been a good, model prisoner and was getting an early release. Surely he knew that!

Now his model prisoner record is shot, he has much more time than his July 2018 original release date. And for what? What did this escape get him?

Stupid is as stupid does. It certainly applies in this case.

Hmmmmm - now that you mention it, maybe he had info that was a risk to someone else and they decided to off him.

It's definitely a possibility. I wondered that. How sure are they that he actually left the grounds? Because it would be incredibly stupid to leave now of all times. Not that people aren't that stupid, but...

Plenty of surrounding waterways to hop into.

located!

Sheriff’s deputies and Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded and made contact with Willis, who attempted to flee. A violent struggle ensued as the officer attempted to detain Willis.

Willis was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered during the altercation. He was then medically cleared and returned to CDCR custody. No officers were injured.
