I hope he is okay.

Reportedly seen at noon at the 76 Station, 1540 Foothill Blvd., La Canada. If he was coming from LA, that would be a logical place to fuel if heading up Route 2 towards Mt. Wilson. It's been rainy. It's the holidays. I don't know him directly so I have no idea his mental state. But if he went to the mountains, he likely had an accident of self-harmed. I hope it's neither.

He drives a silver 2002 Volvo V70 wagon, CA 4YCV509. I don't know when he was reported missing, but he's been gone a week. If he had parked in the mountains, his car would have been found by now.

If he had had an accident, how are cars typically located? What steps would police be taking at this point?

CHP would be driving the mountain routes and looking for signs of going over the side (skid marks, broken branches, guardrail damage). Caltrans (Dept. of Trans.) also patrols there during wet weather for rocks on the roadway.

Was just checking road conditions and several sections are closed for snow and slides, but I don't know if that's due to the current storm or since the Dec. 30th.

If you YouTube "Angeles Crest Highway" it gives you a good idea of the road. A lot of the videos are crashes.

This is the husband of a friend of a friend of mine. I don't know him directly but from the circles I frequent I wouldn't imagine he would just run off and leave his wife and children...but what 40 yo man gets abducted? An entire week seems like a long time for no news (though I realize people go missing and are never found even after decades.)
Again, I don't know them personally but it's the closest degree of separation I've ever had to a possible crime and it's disturbing and riveting. Many of my friends are reposting on instagram and on Nextdoor. I hope he's found and is safe.

Joined to follow this thread -- I know him and found out he was missing this morning. He's a great guy, a husband and a dad. This is all really frightening.

This is a friend of several friends of mine. (I just moved from LA and was involved in the music/art community.)

Unfortunately, another member of the music community and a close friend of mine disappeared under similar circumstances in October and was ultimately found a week or so later. He had taken his own life, apparently in this area up in the mountains. I am hoping that this isn't the case, but this wouldn't be the first time such a thing would happen to a creative in this small community.

His wife is on his Facebook page and posted that he was last seen at the "76 Unocal in La Canada on Foothill Blvd at noon on Dec 29." She also posted on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BO3xD0wAGUF

I'm not sure if LAPD has the manpower to search the foothills, but that would be the first place I'd suggest searching :(

Was Travis also friends with the other person you're referring to who you their life? Was he close to them?

Peterson has worked for years as a go-to music video director for L.A.'s indie rock scene, creating work for artists like Glass Candy, Nite Jewel, Ariel Pink and Nedelle Torrisi. Recently, Peterson worked as a freelance cameraman and editor at BBC News, where he covered the U.S. presidential election.

Peterson drives a silver 2002 Volvo wagon with the California license plate 4YGV509. "Peterson is described as a 40-year-old male with blond hair and green eyes," the notice reads. "He stands 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs around 180 pounds."

His wife received a voice message from Peterson around 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 but has not been able to reach him since.

Peterson was last seen at a 76 gas station in La Cañada Flintridge, on the 1500 block of Foothills Boulevard. A credit card charge pointed to the 76 station in La Cañada Flintridge. Police confirmed, after reviewing security camera footage, that Peterson had been at the gas station that day. After buying a bottle of water at the station, Peterson might have gone for a drive on the Angeles Crest Highway, which winds through the Angeles National Forest, something he did often.

Drove up there today and spoke to rescue police scanning the area. They said they have several teams and helicopters looking too.

You'd think they would have found the car if he went on a walk and got lost, or if he had an accident they would have found signs of a wreck...

This is confusing to me:

“According to LA Weekly, the last time Peterson made contact was during the afternoon of December 29, when he sent a voice mail to his wife, Emilie Halpern. Peterson was last seen on December 30 at a 76 gas station on the 1500 block of Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Police say that security footage confirmed his presence at the gas station.”

He left his wife a voicemail on the 29th and was last seen on the 30th, which means he didn’t return home the evening of the 29th?
It’s odd that he was seen unharmed on the 30th but that she wasn’t able to reach him since the previous day.
I wonder what the content of the voicemail was...

Electric-Light, the source article (LA Weekly) states that Peterson was both seen at the gas station and left his wife a voicemail on the 29th.

I think the LAist version is a misinterpretation of that.

StreetcarRider -

1. His wife's original instagram post says last seen the 29th at the 76 gas station in La Canada.

2. Her next instagram post is a screenshot of this LAPD notice (http://www.lapdonline.org/home/news_view/61625) which says last seen the 30th at 1500 block of Foothill in La Canada (which is the address for the 76).

3. BBC tweets says last seen the 29th.

4. LA Weekly posts that his wife received a vm on the 29th and reported him missing on the 30th, but it is unclear from that article which day they are saying he was actually last seen.

"Halpern tells L.A. Weekly she received a voice message from Peterson around 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 but has not been able to reach him since.

A credit card charge on an account she shares with Peterson pointed to the 76 station in La Cañada Flintridge.

Police confirmed, after reviewing security camera footage, that Peterson had been at the gas station that day, she says.
Halpern suspects that after filling up buying a bottle of water at the station, Peterson might have gone for a drive on the Angeles Crest Highway, which winds through the Angeles National Forest, something he did often.
Halpern filed her initial missing persons report on Dec. 30. On Jan. 3, she says, the LAPD sent a police helicopter to search the area where Peterson may have been driving; Halpern also hired a private investigator to search for her missing husband."

5. LAist posts what I previously quoted about him making last contact with the vm on the 29th and being last seen on the 30th at the 76,

All the dates are inconsistent, even the wife's timeline differs from the LAPD's.
I think it would certainly change the dynamics if there was an entire day between last spoken to and last seen.

"The body was found around 7:20 p.m. on the first floor of the parking garage, Shaw reported.

LA County Sheriff’s Department officials are investigating.

Officials said the body was found in a white Volvo. That is the same type of vehicle driven by Travis Peterson, a well-known music video director. He was last seen on Dec. 29 at a La Canada gas station."

So sad 😢 sounds likely that it is him.
