News articles at the time believed the skull to be of a young individual, aged 8-16, and described it only as a partial skull. While NamUs says this occurred on 5/28/81, the articles state 5/23/81. UC-Davis anthropologists believed that death "could have occurred within the past few years." It was speculated that a dog or fisherman (?) had left the skull on the portch.

I found another possible match that might match:

Alma is probably the best match time/location wise. She went missing in in the Penryn/Auburn area, which is a straight drive to Truckee on Highway 80 going Eastbound. The drive is about 1hr 15mins. If this is Alma whoever killed her may have dumped her body in Truckee because it's an intersection for 3 major highways (Highway 80, 89, and 267).

I would definitely submit if you haven't.

I thought this Doe looked familiar, and it turned out I had already suggested them as a possible match in Alma's WS thread back in 2019. I can't remember if I submitted them, though; I guess it wouldn't hurt to submit again.

Babies' and toddlers' skulls look very different to adolescent skulls. A toddler's skull isn't fused the way an adolescent's is, the fontanelle would be open, and the teeth would be in the process of descending and would all be milk teeth.

No problem! I'm just a bone nerd, not a specialist of any kind, but even with so many unknowns with this Doe, they'd be able to tell at a glance this wasn't James. Look up young kids' skulls one day if you want to learn more, they're very different to adults.

Maybe it's a bit out there, but maybe Noel Davis? He went missing in 1915 from Washoe County, NV, whilst heading to the SF Bay Area. With how little information the coroner appeared to have been able to discern, it may have been a super old, super damaged skull.

I really appreciate all those who are working hard to put my aunt violet’s name out there. Our family struggled for years to find help. Her mother passed away only a few years ago without learning the fate of her daughter. I would love to see my mother Carol and aunt Laura get the closure they need
