CASTRO VALLEY – Authorities in Alameda County are searching for a 16-year-old who has been missing for nearly a week.

According to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Valentina Rosas was last seen on January 12 around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Rizzo Avenue in Castro Valley.

Rosas is described as standing about 5'1" tall, weighing about 130 pounds, with black wavy hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black puffer jacket, white jean pants and black and white Nike shoes.

"We are all concerned about Valentina's safety and are asking for your help to bring her home," deputies said Wednesday.

At the time of her disappearance, Rosas had a cellphone with her that did not have service and also had no money with her. Deputies said the teen is familiar with taking public transportation.

Anyone who may know the teen's whereabouts is asked to call the Alameda County Sheriff's Office at 510-667-7721 or their local law enforcement agency.

Pretty teen. Was she running-to or running-from?
Did she meet someone online? Kidnapped? Just getting away & staying with a friend?

Why do these teens run? (Not saying Valentina was running, but...)
I took a quick Google maps tour of Castro Valley, and some neighborhoods have smallish older homes, and other neighborhoods have very nice homes. Just your typical US town.
Hoping for good news soon.

I am very familiar with Castro Valley. It is indeed a quaint town, with a huge elderly population due to the town springing up during the 60s-70s with affordable family homes in close proximity to San Francisco. However, the public transportation outside of the local BART/train station is incredibly limited, so teens walk around or get rides from friends. In this sense, it can get a little dodgy, especially since there's some questionable areas around the town itself.

This says runaway to me, FWIW.

I guess I'm too old to understand why all these people have cell phones that an inoperable in one way or another.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is very good about posting updates as soon as someone goes missing, and then when they are found. I just checked their X account going all the way back to January, but sadly, it seems that Valentina is still unlocated.
