Thinking about this lady a lot lately. It’s been awhile since the last update. I wonder if the researchers are any closer to an identification now? By the way, how do y’all pronounce the first part of her name “Lyra Jade”? Like “Leer-ah Jade” or “Lie-ra Jade” or ?

Somebody asked the DDP on the progress on her identification, here is their reply:
The team working on Ventura Jane Doe is incredibly persistent, but it is a very difficult case. We have no new updates to provide the public at this time. Over the years, 40 of our volunteers have participated on this team, and the tree they are building is enormous. It's a great example of why DDP's model works so well - we can put as many people as are needed and commit as much time as it takes to get to the name. We never give up.

Was wondering if she could potentially be Angela Jeff

Angela Jeff: The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

While there are some bits that might be a stretch, majority of it I feel fits. The age, race, height, weight, hair and eye color to start are a match. Along with this both have vaccination scars which is something I don't see mentioned with other does/missing people. Both are in California, and it's said that Angela was headed south, so it'd make sense if she somehow ended up in Los Angeles. Would genuinely love to hear thoughts. Thinking of submitting this as a match, but I'd love hearing more from everyone before.

i wonder if jane doe had any tattoos since none are listed.
what throws me off is they suspect the boyfriend is involved in angela’s case but jane has someone charged for her and her baby’s murder.
it wouldn’t hurt to submit — she currently has 0 exclusions so anything helps!

Just a quick update. Submited Angela as a potential match to the Doe Network and was told that she is ruled out as one for the following reasons:

"the lack of tattoos for the UP as were present on the MP. Also the distance and timing"

Hoping we can determine who our Doe is at some point.

Also our UID has recent Mexican ancestry. From the Zacatecas with plenty of endogamy.

Angela was a member of the California Valley Miwok Tribe, which implies long term ancestry in the US.

Although NA DNA is tricky, I think the connection to California probably would have shown up, since she does have a trace amt of "California DNA".

Although they don't show the "Oracle", GedMatch does "breakdown" regional Native American DNA.

I saw that our UID was Native and Latino, so i figured she might have been reported as Native. I saw genealogy for the UID and tried to see if i can find info on Angela's parents, but couldn't sadly. Good to know she's probably not our UID though so we can narrow it down more

Lyra Doe does have a partial Native ancestry, specifically from California. The family of interest for her Indigenous California lineages are: "Rios," "Uribes," "Soto," "Lara," and "Romero”.

In addition, the DDP has identified her great-grandparents as Catarina Montellano (1853–1895) and Martin Parga (c. 1847–1902) from Mexico. A few of the couple’s children later moved to the United States. The DDP is now searching for their descendants, as one of their children is believed to be the grandparent of this Jane Doe.

I wonder if DDP was able to find any new information on some of the Parga sisters (Josefa, Sotera, Bacilia/Monica)? Ancestry doesn't seem to have much other than birth or baptism records.

Unfortunately, there was no recent update, but on the last update in 2023, the DDP stated: “Other than their birth records we can find no records from the later lives of Monica, Basilia, Josefa, or Sotera.”

I have now re-read all the information released and I find it interesting that Jane Doe parents were probably relatives:

“And It is very likely that both of our Jane Doe’s parents were descendants of Aniceto Parga and Maria de Jesus Lira”
