I wonder if the Japanese sandals he was wearing were geta sandals. I couldn't find any in rubber though only wooden.

I found out white is traditional funeral attire in Japan.

I was curious about the date to see if it had any significance to Japan and found it is the anniversary of the start of the Korean war. Korea used to part of the Japanese empire.
