I hope we get more updates from sleuths soon. I hope they are all ok.

Who are we waiting on? gitana, IIRC, I don't think you are far away... I hope you and our other CA sleuths are safe.

Just received an emergency alert.....extreme fire danger, high winds, listen to authorities. I think all of CA must have received this as well.
Looked on the news, we are ok here...so far......but I feel awful for all in harm's way. Devastating...

Also learned today that two friends lost their homes....Ventura.

Please winds, die down.....

Those horses...it breaks my heart.....

I got this same alert in San Diego last night. So far, we're all okay, but high winds predicted overnight, and we are bone dry.
Thinking of you all in harm's way. Please stay safe!

(Good to see comrades from the NorCal fires thread, Lilibet, Melmoth...)

You too, Margarita and all. Thanks for the informative posts. I’m just sick about this. And feeling helpless. Seeing that the 101 is closed is terrifying. Friends, pack up the bare essentials and get out before you think you need to go. Please!

I went through this in the Humboldt County redwoods in 1970. We loaded the car with photos, a few clothes, baby clothes (I was due a month later), important papers, kitties, dog and left the rest. Cinders were flying, but thankfully our road and acreage was spared. Neighbors were wasting time loading their pickups with furniture and appliances! All of that can be replaced. Just GO!!

Heartbroken for you, IQuestion, with the loss of your home! Plus the loss of the irreplaceable photos of your precious child. So sad for you for all the tragedy you've had to endure.

I hope somehow our collective sympathy can offer you a small measure of comfort.

My heart goes out to everyone else too who's worried about themselves, their loved ones, and their homes. I don't believe there's anything much more terrifying than fire.

Please stay safe everyone, and continue to check in...

Oh, IQ, I am so sorry about the loss of your home, but very thankful that you are OK. I pray that your husband is doing OK, too! (Obviously, I have been reading backwards again.) I will continue to keep both of you in my prayers.

Keeping you in prayer as well, mistivon.

So sorry I haven’t been here before now. I have been following the fires and have friends who are very close ... they are glued to reports constantly.

I am just catching up and working my way backward, but had to stop to post. It hurts to see some of our WS friends have lost homes. I only pray we have no physical losses among us.

This is just awful. Bad enough no matter when, but during the holiday season? just thinking bout all who hsve to deal with this and all the stresses they may follow. Be well... as best you possibly can.

:heartbeat:

CARIOCA...also Lilibet, Whitelilac, ElleyMae, Coastal and Mistivon....I am still a little shaky and suffering from shock. My husband is at the hospital right now, he has gone so long without sleep...over 24 hours and was not even able to get his medication or anything else....only the clothes he was wearing. He is dehydrated and a little light headed and needs to get rx's filled immediately. The firemen let him get close enough to see the ashes of our home this afternoon....there is not even a frame left....just ashes. He said it looks as if a firebomb went off in our neighborhood. We will be OK....and the only thing I miss right now are the pictures of our family....all gone.

IQ, reading this and mistivon’s updates is just breaking my heart. I hope your husband gets well quickly and is back with you. I don’t even have words to express my sadness and the losses you may feel in the days ahead. Your words “We will be OK” are heartening, but times are going to be rough for awhile. We will be here to listen and share and give you support. Hopefully, someone will have some of those same pics you lost that they will share with you.

I am so sorry for those of you who have lost your homes: it is heartbreaking-- I used to go to Los Angeles all the time-- it is just a beautiful area with mountains all around. this is just so awful there are no words.

Hundreds of horses have been lost. Its horrifying
I can't even let myself imagine this horrible thing.
It is the stuff of nightmares.
My heart breaks. Again and again, it breaks.

Be careful up there, California. Err on the side of caution, and come south if you can. We're under a High Wind warning here, but so far it's quiet:
>>>snip

High Wind Warning
Southwestern California
5 hours ago – National Weather Service
Areas of northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Isolated gusts of 80 to 90 mph possible later this morning through early afternoon immediately below the mountains ...

Relative humidity is 6%. Bring the animals. We'll build an ark, or something.

California fires: 'Firefighters taking a beating' as Santa Ana winds stoke blazes
www.cnn.com/2017/12/07/us/ventura-fire-california/index.html

"Dry weather and merciless winds, with gusts predicted to reach the strength of a Category 1 hurricane in mountainous areas, threaten to intensify the already devastating Southern California wildfires that have driven 110,000 people from their homes."

Snip

"Despite a brief respite in the winds Wednesday, they began picking up again in the evening. A gust of 85 mph was detected in Ventura County. Forecasters say Thursday will bring gusts of 80 mph in the higher altitudes, while winds of 50 to 70 mph will make firefighters' mission extremely difficult in Ventura and Los Angeles counties."

What a lovely thought.
Here's a "German Proverb" I have saved:
What I spent, I had; what I saved, I lost; what I gave, I have.

I love that. It's true, too.
