From the article:

He credited his aunt—who is called Tica Cora by her nieces and nephews—with helping pay for his medical school and the education of several relatives.
“Great does not even define what I think this woman is,” he said by phone on Tuesday. “I wouldn’t be here and a lot of my cousins wouldn’t be here. … She put a lot of people through school.”

A generous and amazing person, snuffed out by some violent nutcase.

Does LB = Long Beach (CA), Joe?
Another in the nearly daily horror stories of violent crimes in this country. There will probably be a criminal record and numerous instances of just being let go, as usual.
Yep. Long Beach since 1983.

Yep. Long Beach since 1983.
I lived there from 1989 to 1994. On Dawson between 4th and 7th. Helicopters used to fly over with the night sun.

The arraignment of the suspect has been delayed three times due to his hospitalization for mental issues. Expect a trial to take many years before commencing.
An incredibly sad story, and sorry, I have no sympathy for the man who did this heinous act.
Judge again delays arraignment for suspect in deadly BART shove
