“(Reuters) - California reported more than 10,000 coronavirus cases on Tuesday, a record rise for a single day that also surpassed the number of contact tracers recently trained by the state to detect and prevent potential outbreaks.“

Officials confirmed 46 more coronavirus-related deaths and 4,015 additional cases Tuesday — the highest number of infections the county has reported in a single day.

That’s largely due to the roughly 2,000 test results that were backlogged from July 2 to July 5.

The seven-day average for the county’s daily positivity rate — those who test positive for the virus — has climbed to 11.6%.”

California Will Release Up To 8,000 Prisoners Due To Coronavirus

“More than half of the prisoners could be released this month. The corrections department says it's reviewing the roster of prisoners who have fewer than 180 days left on their sentences; it anticipates roughly 4,800 people could be eligible for release by the end of July.

To be freed, prisoners must meet certain criteria — including that they are not currently incarcerated for domestic violence or other violent crime, and that they won't have to register as sex offenders.”

Coronavius cases lead to record hospitalizations in California

The state reported a record high of 6,357 patients hospitalized with the novel coronavirus, according to the latest available data. Another 1,547 patients were hospitalized with suspected but not yet confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Officials also reported a record high with 1,806 patients in ICU beds with the virus. Another 215 patients were in ICU beds with suspected COVID-19 cases.

“The death toll from the coronavirus in California soared above 7,000 this weekend as the infection rate continued to worsen.

The rate at which coronavirus test results are coming back positive in California over the previous seven days has hit 7.97%. That’s the highest number since April — a continuing sign that the coronavirus is spreading throughout the state, according to a Los Angeles Times analysis conducted Saturday.“

LA County Seeing 'High Number' Of Newly Confirmed COVID-19 Cases, Public Health Officials Report

“Public health officials Saturday confirmed 57 new deaths and 2,916 new cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County.

In a press release, officials said 2,000 people are currently hospitalized. Of those, 27 percent are in the intensive-care unit, and 18 percent are on ventilators.

“As cases of coronavirus continue to increase with more businesses reopening, a local lawmaker is proposing a bill that would require the state, and health care providers to keep months-worth of extra personal protective equipment (PPE) on hand.

It’s been three months of stress and worry for EMT Gabriel Montoya with not enough PPE to go around.

“Every day we are worried that this might be the day that we get it,” Montoya said. “For three shifts, sometimes at length, which means we are going from patient room to patient room with the same mask and we could possibly be giving this to patients.”“

“New data revealed by NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit shows 998 COVID-19 cases in child care facilities across California. The Investigative Unit documents how two Bay Area child care centers scrambled to prevent outbreaks after learning of COVID-19 positive cases among the kids who attend their facilities.

“The cases are up 12% since last week, according to California’s Department of Social Services, which recently started compiling the cases at child care facilities and will continue posting weekly on its website, along with resources and guidelines for child care businesses.”
