There could be other families looking for their missing loved one. Article states there are 61 patient remains stored at an off site morgue. 15 patients who died in 2023 and 11 who died in 2022. The others could date back many years.

CARMICHAEL, Calif. —
Four months after a KCRA 3 Investigates report revealed multiple patients had gone to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael before seemingly going "missing," documents reveal a years-long backlog of dozens of patient remains in an off-site morgue.

In October, KCRA 3 reported on the case of Jessie Peterson after her family filed a lawsuit, claiming Dignity Health never contacted them after Peterson died at the hospital in 2023.

My dad died at this hospital, Mercy San Juan, in June 2024. This is the first time I’ve found this thread and I’m kind of astounded. I didn’t learn of his death for a week and his body was also removed to the “secondary” off-site morgue, although I was treated very kindly by the staff there and had no issues.

One complication that I find interesting in light of Jessie’s story is my dad’s cause of death on his death certificate, signed by the doctor at Mercy San Juan, was too vague. The coroner would not sign off on it. The Sacramento County coroner had to perform a record review and autopsy before issuing his death certificate. I’m now wondering if they were being extra-meticulous with death certificates from this hospital because of Jessie? I’ll never know. This family went through so much pain without answers and that could have been me.

RIP, Ms. Jessie.
