California fire crews notch progress as weather cools and calms; Camp Fire death toll up to 63

“Fire crews wrangling with the most lethal blaze in California history are getting a welcome boost: Cooler, calmer weather that has descended on the northern part of the state.“

Camp Fire search efforts intensify with more than 600 people reported missing
https://www-m.cnn.com/2018/11/16/us/california-fires/index.html?r=https://www.google.com/&rm=1

“(CNN) — As the death toll from the Camp Fire rose to 63 people and the number of people missing spiked to more than 600, rescue workers searching for human remains in the wreckage hope hundreds of people who are still unaccounted for after the blaze are still alive.
"A lot of people are displaced, and a lot of people don't know we're looking for them," Butte County Sheriff and Coroner Kory Honea said late Thursday.“

What Started the California Fires? Experts Track the Blazes’ Origins

“Even a tiny pebble can be an important clue. On which side was it blackened by heat? What’s the condition of the soil below the fire at the place it started? An electrical charge from a high-voltage power line, for example, can solidify sand with a telltale signature. Then investigators look at things that were touched by the flames but not destroyed.“

I’m so sorry you lost a loved one in such tragic circumstances.
O/T Oh I should have been more clear in my post, I was the family's attorney. It was absolutely horrible for them. It is a case I will never forget. They ended up settling before trial.

Mountain lions missing; entire habitat range of bobcats wiped out by SoCal fire

https://www.sfgate.com/california-w...anta-monica-mountains-woolsey-la-13396742.php

Eight of the 13 mountain lions with radio collars in and around the Santa Monica Mountains appeared to be alive and moving as of Monday.

It seems the bobcats have fared worse.

"Of the 4 bobcats we're tracking, it appears the entire home ranges for all 4 have burned," the Recreation Area said. "It's possible they managed to survive but only time will tell." A home range is a defined area of habitat where mammals find food, shelter and mates.

As of Wednesday, none of the four had been found, "despite fairly extensive efforts."

It's extremely hard to read this thread without breaking down in tears. Everytime I come to read the updates I feel an overwhelming amount of sadness and such a helpless feeling.

I cant even begin to imagine how devastating it is for the familyguy members who have lost all of these poor people due to the fires.

I dont think there is a worse way to lose lives than to be burned to death with no way to escape the raging inferno.

Now over 600+ remain missing and unaccounted for. How devastating it must be for their loved ones who are desperately trying to locate them all. I saw on the news the death toll has risen to 66 now.

I pray the ones missing are all found alive and just have no way of contacting their worried families.

The waiting and the not knowing has to cause each one of them such unimaginable grief.

All of this raging fire monster which has affected so many precious lives/families including our defenseless animals is so heartbreaking for me like I have no doubt it is for everyone.

I'm still praying for everyone who has been affected.

I’ve been wanting to link the thread for last year’s California Fires. There is a lot of educational information/reference material there for anyone who is interested, as I have spent a lot of time researching on these threads linking a lot of relevant material on the subject. For those who are new to the subject of fires, it’s worth a quick scroll as it can help give an idea on many questions being asked here and there is a lot of information on how these fires are fought, containment lines, firefighting tactics, firefighting foam, PG & E, resulting mudslides, resources utilized, factors that affect growth and containment, pollution aspects, insurance stuff, documentation by scientists which say that climate change that contributes to this, etc, etc. You will see the measures/lengths and time it often takes to get these fires under control and what various approaches are taken. You will see there as well that there were many elderly victims.

Also, here is a link for study as well the Colorado Wildfires which has a lot of information as well re: Super Tanker, beetle kill, etc etc.:

Also Noro breaking out as well:
Butte Co. Public Health reports outbreak of the Norovirus in evacuation shelters

Found out yesterday a coworker I worked with many years ago was one of the victims. Found his remains in his home and his daughter was asked to submit dna :(

It's truly awful.

We're headed over next week to give my family some supplies and much needed love and hugs and support.

I’m so sorry :(

This is all just so awful beyond words. :(

I'm sure it's against TOS to solicit donations here but if any of you want to help these people, please pm me for resources. This is not just for my own selfish reasons--there are thousands of families affected here.

There are legitimate sources you can donate to. If you donate to the Red Cross (not my first choice but as info), please specify which fire, otherwise it goes into their general fund. Check out the famous fund raising site (not sure if I can name that one but I'm sure most of you know what it is lol) and search camp fire or Paradise). The list is growing for people looking for help every day. We have one for my dad and family, my uncle has one and numerous friends.

Unfortunately since SO many are affected, people are relying upon strangers to share and get the word out. Literally, EVERYONE we know knows somebody affected. Nobody local can help as much as they normally would outside of general immediate supplies as clothing and some bare necessities. These families need housing, shelter, money, jobs, etc. They have a very long road ahead of them. Even if you can't personally help, maybe somebody you know can. It takes a village :)

Sorry if this isn't allowed . . . there are just so many affected, we are trying to reach out to as many people as possible, not just for my own family but for the entire community and surrounding area.

Worse and worse.
There is a severe housing crisis in California.
Very severe. Add in our winter weather, which will probably surprise most everyone (yes it gets cold and yes we can have snow), My heart aches for these thousands who are finding themselves homeless in a matter of hours.
But, for the grace of God, we too could be one of these thousands.
I sincerely hope our politicians get off their collective asses and pay for thousands of mobile homes to house these people ASAP.
It will cost lots of money.
I am sure that while doing their budgets that they did not factor this disaster into their equasions. BUT, they sure the heck, should have.
This is not a political rant, so do not go there. But, President Trump's claim of California not taking care of it's forestry is 100% true in my opinion.
Very bad timing on his part for this announcement.
But, true, nevertheless in my opinion.
We live in a town much like Paridise. Lot's of animals, horses and two country roads in and out. But our population nearly doubles theirs.
We have already been evacuated 5 times in the last 17 years.
Without getting too much into it, bottom line, we have hanging 60 year old plus electrical wires everywhere.
We have dead trees everywhere.
We have dead brush everywhere.
We Are a tinderbox.
Yet we have All of our money invested here into our restaurant.
At 71 and 65, it is time to get out of here somehow.
I can understand how this would be very frightening, I hope your community can work to mitigate the risks or, as you say, if you decide it's not worth it, you can relocate.

I expect that in many places, there will be a different attitude to wildfire after this.
