''Detectives investigating the murder of a student at a London club 20 years ago have released enhanced images of a man they believe may be responsible for stabbing her to death.

Camille Gordon, 23, who was training to be a nursery assistant, was stabbed in the heart on the doorstep of the Blue Bunny Club in Archer Street, Soho, in the West End of London, on 1 March 2004. She was working part-time at the club as a hostess to fund her studies.

The Metropolitan Police say Camille was working on the door of the club, which offered female company (but no sexual activity taking place), at around 6.30pm, when a man approached her.''

He entered the club, paying an admission fee of £5, and went to a private area with Camille.
When another member of staff presented the male customer with a bill for £375, he was unable to pay the full amount, paid £80 and was escorted to the exit.''.

The man was seen entering Piccadilly Circus Tube station shortly after the murder
He was wearing a dark jacket with a large “Cleveland Indians” logo on the front, dark jeans, white trainers and a hat believed to be a baseball cap.

''Two days after the murder, on 3 March 3 2004, a man attended Kennington Police Station and asked to speak to a CID officer about a murder at the Blue Bunny Club, but he left before CID got there and he never returned.

Detectives are urging the man to get in touch so he can share the information he has. He is described as white, about 35 years old at the time, about 5ft 8in, of skinny build with defined cheekbones and light brown hair.''

Those clubs were designed to fleece tourists. Camille's job would have been to persuade men to come in and see the girls.

Once inside the club, a hostess would ask the man what he wanted to drink. When he received the bill for his bottle of beer it would be for hundreds of pounds, and when he protested a load of heavies would appear from the back home and go through his pockets.

This killer doesn't really look like a foreign tourist. The fact he had £80 cash on him makes me suspect that he was expecting sexual activity to be on offer in the club.

Presumably he was either carrying a knife, or went home to get one. Maybe he lived near Kennington, as that's he police station he seems to have gone to.

It seems strange for a 35 year old Londoner to have been unaware of what went on in those clubs.

The killer supposedly returns half an hour after being 'clipped' for his money.

He then heads south on the Bakerloo train line (towards Vauxhall and Elephant & Castle).

If he goes home to get a knife, then he must live within 15 minutes of the club.

Where is the CCTV from the immediate aftermath of his eviction from the club? AFAIK Soho was covered by CCTV by 2004. There were cameras everywhere, not just in underground stations.

I feel very sorry for Camille's family (who had no idea she was working there) and acknowledged that such establishments really put women at risk.

This whole case is very fishy though. Who gave the witness statements?

How do we know that the killer was ever actually in the venue?

JMO but he seems too 'street looking' to have fallen for such a scam in the first place.

The description of the man who went to the police station two days later is different than the suspect:

“Maybe you felt unable to talk to us at the time, for whatever reason, but you are now in a position to do so. Maybe you saw the attack or you were at the club or in the area at the time of the murder?
“Maybe the person responsible has since confided in you? I would urge you to share whatever information you have with us – it will be treated in the strictest confidence and could bring much needed closure to Camille’s family.”

Thanks.. I think I need some reading glasses!

I wonder if the man at the police station was a fellow 'customer', or someone who worked in the club, or maybe a very local resident who witnessed things.

Or did he recognise the killer from elsewhere and fear him?

There must have been a reason why he got cold feet and left the police station.

I originally thought the same thing as you did. It’s confusing because they’re talking about a witness but showing images of the perp. MOO
