Police said Thursday that the seven-year-old was being abused by her mother's boyfriend, who was also making the girl available for abuse via the online advertising service Craigslist.
The 34-year-old Hamilton man is facing 40 sexual abuse-related charges. The child's mother has been charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.
"The sexual assaults of a seven-year-old girl remain a shocking event," Hamilton police Chief Eric Girt said at a news conference.
"This has been a very difficult investigation," Deputy Chief Dan Kinsella said.
The six-month investigation also involved Ontario Provincial Police, Niagara Regional Police, Chatham-Kent police and U.S. authorities.

Geoffrey Burnet. (Hamilton Police Service)
http://www.chch.com/sexual-assault-charges-former-hamilton-teacher/

Geoffrey Burnet of Kitchener was not only charged by Hamilton Police with child sexual abuse but he was arrested by Niagara Police on child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 charges. Burnet also taught in Toronto, Dufferin County, Wellington Country and Guelph and police are concerned there could be more victims.

Burnet has been a teacher for over 15 years. He is facing sex related charges including sexual assault stemming back to one incident involving a nine or 10 year old girl in Hamilton between January 2007 and December 2008.
Burnet was a supply teacher at a number of schools in Hamilton between 2005 and 2011 including St. Jean de Brebeuf, St. Thomas More, Catherdral High School, St. Mary, Bishop Tonnos and St. Vincent de Paul.
On January 28 2011 Burnet resigned from the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic School Board. The board won’t say why he quit.
During that same time Burnet also subbed in at George S. Henry Academy in Toronto.
In his early teaching years he worked for the Upper Grand District School Board.
“We would be concerned about the other potential victims who that individual may have had access to and in this type of investigation it is a concern for us.”
Burnets Facebook page also shows that he taught for a time in Japan.

Was 't there another case where the guy was a teacher in South Korea? I think he was also in Ontario. Not related I'm sure - I'm just wondering if I remember it right.

Nine people across central Ontario including a longtime teacher face child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 or sexual assault charges after police say they interrupted a network of online child predators that allegedly preyed upon two young sisters in Hamilton.

Hamilton Police Det. Sgt. David Dunbar says Children’s Aid officials came to them on May 3 after a seven-year-old girl told child welfare authorities she was being sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man later that day. Upon a search of his home, police located several computers, hard drives and memory cards that allegedly contained images and video of several other individuals sexually assaulting the young girl.

“These arrests have prevented other children from being abused or being exposed to other dangers,” Dunbar said.

Dunbar said the young victim’s older sister, who he said is no older than 16, was also allegedly preyed upon by this group and assaulted.
Dunbar said Hamilton Police shared the digital evidence they collected with several other Ontario police services and U.S. Homeland Security, leading Niagara Regional Police to share information regarding a 48-year-old Kitchener man named Geoffrey Burnet.
Burnet allegedly made, accessed and downloaded child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 shared by others arrested in this investigation.
But after further investigation, Dunbar said Burnet is also now facing sexual assault and indecent act charges related to the unrelated historic sexual assault of another underage girl dating back to 2007 and 2008.

Investigators believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward. Dunbar said anyone with information is asked to call Det. Michelle Wiley at 905-546-3856.

I'm so disgusted I'm at a loss for words. Good God, what is wrong with people? And Craigslist allowed the ad!!!??? You know if Craigslist was charged for allowing the ad, maybe they'd pay more attention to the crap that is posted.

I wasn't going to open this thread based on the title, but then got to thinking the advert must be a sick joke, and opened to have it confirmed.

I really wish I'd been right.

I hope these girls get all the help they need.

I have no words for the perpetrators at this time, or Craigslist.

The good news in this horrible case, is that the girls and perhaps countless other potential victims have been rescued from these loathsome alleged perps.
Good to know that many LE agencies have come together to help stop this kind of sick and very nasty, imo. victimization of children!

I think the thing that stood out for me in this particular case, is that the 7 year old had the courage to tell someone what was happening to her. By doing so, she stopped the abuse from happening to her, her sister and probably many more children.

It isn't very often that we hear that I child told someone. It always seems to be that we find out because the pictures appeared somewhere.

She's a brave and courageous little girl. I hope she gets good counselling and is placed in a stable home with lots of love and support.

I bet it was written in some kind of a coded way, that normal people would not connect to it being a 7 yr old being pimped out.

These are vile disgusting monsters and I hope they never see freedom or the light of day again.

Does anyone have a copy or screenshot of how the ads were worded and which section of Craigslist were they placed in?

Example: Babysitter section or the adult section or what?

Anyways. Very sad indeed.

"We believe these arrests have prevented other children from being sexually abused or exposed to imminent dangers," Dunbar said.

U.S. Homeland Security Investigations became involved with the case because Craigslist is an American-based website. Ontario Provincial Police and services in Niagara, Waterloo and Chatham-Kent also assisted the investigation, Hamilton police said.

Dunbar says investigators found advertisements on the U.S.-based classified website Craigslist that offered the seven-year-old girl “to be sexually assaulted.”

Police say further investigation found the seven-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by more than one person.

Cannot imagine how they worded that ad, but looks like LE here and US are on to it, imo.

“Our investigation involved Craigslist being utilized by one of the perpetrators,” said Dunbar. “They were posting information that was communicating to get involved in relationships or communicate for the purpose of exploiting children.”

Officers saw the ad but would not discuss details of its content.

U.S. Homeland Security used their authority to gain information from the California-based company that runs Craigslist and U.S. officials are now conducting a parallel investigation that could result in charges against others, said Special Agent Aaron Chapman.

The additional arrests and more searches brought other suspects to the attention of investigators in a widening pool.

Thanks. I think sites like Craigslist and Backpage should be monitored by the government since these are companies that dont have enough manpower to monitor postings by 1 billion people from 1 billion cities. Jmo

Now I respect the Craigslist platform since I have found furniture and side jobs or deals from Craigslist before.

But its obvious that they can use help to stop illegal activities.

And hopefully the feds have carte blanche access to monitor these things without stopping the money that Craigslist make.
