In the throes of grief, Holly Roy had a singular request.
“Anyone who’s asked me if I need anything,” she wrote in a Facebook post, just over two months after her son, JahVai, was killed by a stray bullet that punctured the bedroom window of her Black Creek apartment in August.
“I need you to show up.”
It was a call to action, for people from across the city — loved ones, friends, politicians, strangers — to attend the Save Our Children rally, organized by ENAGB Indigenous Youth Agency in downtown Toronto on Oct. 24, exactly two months after JahVai had been laid to rest.''
