The connection between these cases is bizarre , not only because the poi appears to be reasonably respectable, but for the variety of his alleged victims and the utter cruelty inflicted upon them.

I'm so happy he has been charged. He is disgusting. The plastic bags over the head would have been linked right away IMO, it is very specific. The fact he left his DNA at the original crime scene and with the video footage at M. Cote's apartment leading to his arrest is so amazing. Justice will be coming soon. I hope he pleads guilty. JMO

Not sure that he will plead guilty given his lawyer's comments..

"The cards are on the table, now we will vigorously challenge the accusation. My client advises me he has absolutely had nothing to do with it in which case that's what the trial's all about," Castle-Trudel said Friday.

She also raised the question of a fair trial after news of his pending arrest on murder charges was leaked earlier in the week.

"The person who deliberately set out to leak this stuff to the press, to get my client convicted in the court of public opinion by a lynch mob, [had] an absolute disregard … not just for my client's rights, for Canadian rights to trust their police, to behave as proper law enforcement officers upholding the law," she said."

Yes, it certainly is.

The video associated with the article at the link is informative. Apparently a family member recognized Bush from the CCTV video released by LE in conjunction with the attack on Cote (the 101 year old in the other thread) and reported it. And, as a result of that, LE connected DNA between that crime scene and the crime scene for this triple homicide case. (The family member is a hero, in my eyes.)

If, I repeat IF, the evidence holds up and Ian Bush is found guilty....what a pathetic loser!! Trying to kill anyone (older and weaker) that stood in his narcissistic way is simply pathetic. Again, if he is found guilty, I feel so very sorry for Bush's family. They deserved better.

Police did say they are looking at any unsolved cases nationwide that may be similar to the Riverside killings. The Citizen has learned that police are re-testing evidence in the homicide of commissionaire Paul-Andre Simard, who was killed just three months before the Garons and Benikos in his Meadowlands Drive home.

Bush allegedly had a sawed-off semi-automatic rifle and a pump-action shotgun that were allegedly obtained by crime.

I'm sure that LE are checking with their counterparts in BC, Dryden and New Brunswick regarding any potential similar unsolved cases.

The unsolved murders of an elderly Canadian couple in Hallandale Beach Florida a couple of years ago has the same M.O. -- break in (no sign of forced entry), burglary and murder by asphyxiation. It's likely unrelated though as LE in Florida say that more than one perpetrator was involved and they have found the DNA of two women.

So glad you mentioned the Hallandale murders, I was thinking the same thing!
Female DNA may have been found, but might a male have set the whole thing up?

"White added that some of the officers involved in the 2007 triple homicide investigation have now retired. White stepped down as Ottawa police chief in February 2012, after he was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

"Throughout this whole, almost eight years, there's been many times when we've had what we thought were possible leads, which is not uncommon. It is a bit of a roller coaster ride when you're involved in homicide investigations, so certainly, this was no different. There were lots of ups and downs throughout the full investigation," White said.

DNA links the two cases so this is really great news.

"Ernest Côté was left bound with a plastic bag over his head but he managed to free himself and call police. Bush was charged in the case after police released video surveillance and photos of a suspect in the lobby of Côté's apartment.

Bush faces several charges, including attempted murder.

"DNA evidences linked two cases

DNA evidence from the home invasion was linked to the unsolved 2007 triple homicide investigation, according to Acting Ottawa Police Chief Jill Skinner.

On Friday, Bush was officially charged in the 2007 killings after several weeks of investigation. None of the allegations have been proven in court."

Imagine my surprise when I found out this man (Ian Bush) once lived in the house next door to me. I had read about this case a few weeks ago, and then a neighbour had asked if I'd heard about the Bushes' son being in the news. I thought it was strange that I'd run across this case on here first only to then find that out. I didn't live here at the time, but I did work at the mill where his father was the manager in the summers as a student. This was a fairly well-to-do family, and from what I have been told about them, very aware of their status in the community etc. I can only imagine how they are feeling around all this.

Reading about M. Cote's lifetime accomplishments was truly humbling from D day to helping lay out the terms for World Health Organization, this man was a very accomplished Canadian.

What was the motive in these attacks? Robbery? Dislike of civil servants? It isn't clear in the articles I read.

My impression was that he disliked authority...didn't want anyone telling him what to do or impacting his life in any negative way.

I think he is a self-centered, narcissist. (ok, that was redundant. All narcissists are self centered!)
