Has anyone watched the scrum wars televised at the office at a very well known Ontario politician? That was dozens of reporters with microphones and cameras doing exactly what this one lone reporter did to the one person LE and many citizens wanted desperately found.
I was amazed there was only the one reporter.

Very good point, I never thought of it like that. Privacy is becoming an interesting topic nowadays with celebrity (or in the DG case - notoriety), cell phone video, surveillance camera in downtowns/neighborhoods, the internet, etc. Very tough topic in my books when it comes to ethics, very gray area of where does the line get drawn...

I am curious... Do any of you think DG was actively involved in illegal business such as the drug trade in more recent years (past 3 years for example) leading up to his arrest for triple homicide?

Yep. But I think he was a logistics organizer/shipper/transporter/hide the money and create the legit paper trail behind company names guy, not the active dealer or maker of drugs. JMO and a theory I have. How about you, what are your thoughts?

I agree. I think he was a source and a wholesaler for importing/exporting chemicals and supplies. Which means he has people who use his service.

Assuming DG has business connections for illegal activities, I'm sure LE would know who they are. Calgary probably has key players in the drug world and I wonder if they've been interviewed. I almost think if our theories are right (they're pretty similar if not the same) I'm curious if DG operated and dealt with associates outside of Calgary, maybe in BC, maybe in the US, maybe Montana.

I sure hope they have enough intel to connect the dots if need be. I was looking at the following articles and I am really curious if this has been considered... The person mentioned in the articles is in custody. But the interesting part is that he owns the meth lab home in a very small town, so it could be vacant. Hope this is allowed...

Is this DG's Protoge? Maybe since he is in custody, DG makes use of his house? 3 hrs. Driving time to Galahad from Airdrie but looks like he would have options for road routes.

Maybe DG is under suicide watch because he does not want to risk running into any of his business associates that could identify him and possibly give LE information.

IMO, I don't think so.

Interesting….I'm curious to know is there something that jumped out at you about this particular story to make a connection? It could definitely be plausible that there's a network or web or sorts of people tied together in that area of Alberta involved in the making and distribution of drugs. Do you think this young guy was doing the work DG *used* to do in the 90s?

I also thought, my theory is pretty open - I don't know if DG was transporting/shipping/and creating legit paper trails for even drugs per se, but I think he moving around 'stuff' of some sort (maybe even stolen vehicles or who knows!)

Do you have any thoughts or theories about what you think he might've been doing to keep busy on the farm all these years Tinkerbel1? I'm always so nosey to hear everyone's ideas :)

I think he was working on the farm, it looks pretty good and it takes a lot of time and hard work to keep that up. I think he was helping his parents out however they needed...maybe he helped out at their church...lol. I also think he spent time playing Facebook games. He may even have been doing some chatting on the internet, some of the friends he has on his Facebook page look really young and they're from the States, so maybe he met them on games and chatted with them? I don't know about you, but I've spent entire days online either chatting with people, playing games, taking workshops and classes. Maybe he had a girlfriend he spent time with? Who knows how much time he spent watching television, or reading, or staring off into space? He seems like a pretty private person....I don't really think he lived any big, secretive, devious lifestyle but I really don't know. Maybe he was doing consulting work for someone part-time in addition to working on the farm. He worked in a legitimate business with AL on that patent and other things so maybe he had other companies as clients as well. ...as I said, I really don't know. Whatever he was doing will likely be brought up at the trial. If he was working for some other companies, that will likely be brought up as well. I don't really think he was doing 'illegal' work...I'm sure LE would've discovered that during the search of their property and would likely have brought forth charges relating to that activity. Who knows...we'll have to wait and see.

I see a Doug Garland but the facebook account has been deleted. Wonder who and when deleted it. ? There are three Douglas Garland's facebook accounts as well they have been deleted and one that has not but looks like a senior from England but does have some Canada connections.

That's why I asked for a link because I don't recall that anyone ever found a FB account for him.

An old report but I wanted to highlight this bit:

Police said they found flammable and dangerous chemicals at the acreage.
"We don’t know if it’s chemicals that are part of a typical farm operation or chemicals that could be used for something else," Brookwell said.
"So, until we know what those chemicals are, we can’t say and it’s too early to speculate what those may be or what they be used for."

Yes that is the first time I have heard of a facebook page ( RE Tinkerbell's post ), for DG as well sillybilly. We have to be careful because it is a common name it appears from facebook standpoint..

I was amazed there was only the one reporter.

I understand that people would be upset by the reporter trying to question DG during the "perp walk". If this is not an acceptable or allowable form of reporting I wonder why security or police officers did not prevent this from happening and or have strict instructions for the reporter. I think that in her career-life she has built professional relationships with and has a level of respect with LE that she wouldn't have jeopardized. I also think she does not "call the shots" when it comes to her location shots. I would be more comfortable questioning the powers of Global News and where the companies ethics and guidelines are administered from, instead of putting the blame on the reporter.

How about Alan Liknes who had to exit the court house and face numerous reporters? He really had no choice and was brave enough to maintain composure and answer a few questions and maintain a level of respect to the community in his time of deep turmoil. Should reporters give him (a victim) the same level of privacy that a criminal is "entitled" to?

In the footage I posted the other day about Kathy Lynn Reid the reporter was on location reporting "live" as the body of the deceased was being lifted from the stretcher. Where is the dignity to KLR and her family to have this broadcasted on television. Is the reporter even comfortable with this style of reporting?

Is this being done to show the community how "real" this is and I wonder, will this style of reporting eventually desensitize those watching? Are these reporters being pushed to report this way and encouraged to exploit graphic and surreal circumstances? They have superiors, I think they have a critical role in this. Global could have chosen to not air the questioning of DG by the reporter if they felt the need.

I don't know that the whole public expected or wanted the reporter to ask questions. I personally, never gave it a second thought as it was happening. I was hoping he would feel the pressure and come clean and show an ounce of remorse and dignity. I would have been shocked if he replied to her but I would have been so grateful if he would have.

Just my honest opinion.

Off the back of my last post regarding chemicals in DG's possession. A reminder of his business: P2 Solutions Ltd.

Member Type: Trader
Business Type: Manufacturer
Country: Canada
Industry: Chemicals
Products: Mercury, Sodium
Company Introduction

We are a small chemical manufacturing facility located in southern Alberta, Canada. We are seeking buyers for our high purity supply of elemental Mercury.

And when I checked to see the various uses of elemental mercury! Aha! The primary application for mercury metal in North America and Europe is in cathode cells, which are used for the production of caustic soda", wrote our Metals Guide Terence Bell.

Nothing jumped at me that can verify they know each other. I just think he sounds like a young DG and that possibly he is pretty good at his line of work considering at the time of his arrest he was 28 years old and owns the home he "cooks" in. I wonder if the house was an inheritance or funded by his drug income or by someone else. If DG was a source for wholesale chemicals to others in the drug trade I'm sure he has a pretty sticky pre-screening of who he would sell his products and engage with. I'm thinking the fellow mentioned in the articles is a good candidate because he owns his own property and it is in a remote location not too close or too far from Airdrie. It could be as simple as that, or it could be that DG works closer with him. Of course, I am purely speculating.

You could very well be right! Then I'd have to eat my words. I guess we'll have to wait until it unfolds and the story gets told at trial, I'm so curious to know if he was living a quiet, humble farm live or have an illegal thing on the go. Time will tell!
