Methinks stan laurel doesn't want any of us female types to be imagining him to be some kind of sexy, and.. I think he is succeeding! Yes, if someday we meet in person a a sleuthing convention - nevermind the handshakel!

Lol...I think Stan is just shy...nobody in Alberta picks their nose anymore.....lol

I'm at a loss as to how this Sep 25, 2008 article relates to the case.

The article also doesn't specify "oil executives", just "executives", unless I read it wrong.

Just logged on and was recapping the last 24 hours posts on this thread and I thought for a moment I had logged on to the wrong website and inadvertently been linked to an online dating site.

Lol....noooo....just filling in some time getting a little silly and having some fun while waiting for the court appearance today. :hanging::Banane10:

IIRC, DG is at the Calgary Remand Centre, so I don't think that is covered by CSC policies governing federal inmate admissions. There might be different policy/procedure under Alberta provincial corrections (I haven't had any luck in finding anything but am short on time .. should be found somewhere under Alberta Solicitor General ).

Oh yes, you're right sillybilly he must still be at the Remand Centre, would he stay there whole time between all court appearances or only until a plea is made? Seems more of a cushy (sp?) place to be held, no? I should try to find more info, as maybe it just 'sounds' nicer but might not be.

From the link:

"While their bodies have never been found, police felt they had enough evidence to lay charges. Garland, 54, is charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of second degree murder. -

It’s expected a date will be set Wednesday for a preliminary inquiry in the case."

Preliminary Inquiry

"A preliminary inquiry is a hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to justify sending the case to trial.

At the preliminary inquiry, the Crown prosecutor presents critical elements of the evidence against the accused. Witnesses may be called, and victims may have to give evidence at this time.

If the judge finds that there is not enough evidence to send the case to trial, he or she will dismiss the charge. If the judge finds that there is enough evidence to justify a trial, the judge commits the accused person to trial and, if the accused pleads not guilty, sets a trial date."

I see. We should widen the scope and understand that oil industry employees, regardless of where they live, are Calgarians by virtue of the fact that oil company head offices are in Calgary. Furthermore, we should accept that oil company employees that live in other parts of the country are drug abusers, therefore Calgary oil company employees are drug abusers. In the context of this discussion, we know that the victims, and their immediate family, are Calgary oil company employees.

Clearly this line of reasoning, with its wide scope of understanding, is intended to portray Calgary oil company employees - in this case the victims and their immediate family, as having some connection with illegal drugs.

What next? Now that there has been such an earnest group effort (lasting several days) to associate illegal drug use with the victims, what is the point of this earnest effort?

No, we should widen the scope and understand that oil industry employees, regardless of where they live are oil & gas employees, and that there is a huge drug component in that industry. How many of the employees are actually partaking is unknown, how many of them live in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, etc, is also unknown. We have huge O&G offices in Edmonton as well, Calgary doesn't have the monopoly on the Oil & Gas industry.

Yes, this line of reasoning is intended to portray that Calgary and Edmonton, and all other places that have Oil & Gas employees with their many victims (not just these) could potentially know people who are involved in drugs with the O&G industry.

The point is to keep an open mind to the types of people that AL may have run across through his business.

Given the history of Alvin's numerous oil, and construction, companies that were listed and delisted over the last 20 years, the bankruptcies, the usual company in Panama, everything surrounding the Dec5 2013 sale of the house/purchase of the Mazatlan condo/June 25 bankruptcy, I don't think anyone could be closed minded about who he is. Anything is possible, but the fact remains that the only suspect that has been arrested is a loner with a long criminal history that had "soured business dealings" with one of the victims. The business dealings specifically relate to patent design work.

Just a side note...court starts at 10 am Calgary time...here's hoping it's a slow day for cases and we get some news soon...

AL had "soured business dealings" with many people.

AL had "soured business dealings" with many people.

The soured business dealings relate to money, investments, unpaid taxes, bankruptcy, and patent design work.

For anyone looking for alternative suspects, "soured business dealings" is a stone that should not be left unturned. I don't know that a list of folks who lost money on oil deals is enough reasonable doubt. There'd be a lot of murders in Calgary if it was!

It may not be enough for reasonable doubt, but it may be that there is something else there if really looked at. JMO

... and that individual had a background in petty crime and amphetamine production. So yes, AL did come across one person who had ties to the underbelly that we choose to ignore.

On another note; I had posted that AL and his brother sold shares in one of their companies after a stop-sell was issued by Alberta Securities several years earlier. The post is gone. Though we don't sleuth family, this has nothing to do with the murders but is relevant to who AL did business with and possibly how, and more importantly how others may have thought of AL's business style. Enough to murder? Not sure but I'm sure there are some investors out there who aren't just dusting off their hands after a bad investment.
