One thing that's so disturbing to me about this crime is how things seemed to align for the bad guy:

After an estate sale so cross contamination of DNA at the scene.

Crime committed right before a plan for the victims to leave the country.

Suspect's parents conveniently (or planned by him) away on holiday.

The house next door completely empty.

Calgary Stampede/Canada Day week (for noise).

What are the odds of all these things lining up to help commit this crime?

And then there's little NO, the surprise in this all :(

If he wasn't there an Amber Alert wouldn't have been able to have been used, and maybe the truck wouldn't have been seen by so many eyes and wouldn't have led to a suspect so fast. In a way it was NO's presence there that helped catch the bad guy. He's a little saint or superhero or both, I have to think about it this way to not get very angry about this happening to a child and his grandparents.

I wonder how DG is treating his lawyer? I'm curious if he's respectful and obedient, arrogant and aloof, aggressive and harsh or quiet?! KR sounds like a very respected man like you say, and I wonder how patient and professional he'd be if DG was disrespectful at all or if KR has a limit before he would drop a client.
I have often wondered the same thing. Is he being forthcoming and cooperative? Like I said, I think based on what little we know about DG, they seem well matched. I have always found KR a bit dry for my taste but not in a bad way - very professional nonetheless.

You never know who you will get paired with on Legal Aid, but in this case, he has a darn good Lawyer. Hope it works out for him, in the interest of justice.

I was just looking at the Calgary Police Crime Map. I know we had discussed that only 2 homicides are mapped to the 123-38A Ave. SW, Parkhill address. Has anything been brought up of other crimes in that neighbourhood that night/day? I am not sure if the map has been recently updated or if this was already brought up but on the morning of June 29 there is a report of 1 residential break-in and 2 vehicle thefts in the area of 1st street and 38th Avenue. The break-in and vehicle theft was done the morning before they were discovered missing. I am curious if this could be connected.

I think I asked this question a couple of days ago and don't think it was answered....do we know for sure that DG has a Legal Aid lawyer?
Where are you getting that information? Just curious.

That would be helpful to know (vehicle recovery). Did these people arrive home from being away and the time posted (8:20 am) is the time of the discovery or is it the time of the theft and break-in.? Or, had they not returned until the Monday (holiday) and this is an estimated time due to some sort of evidence or testimonial? I am assuming this happened at the same location, but 2 vehicles being stolen??

ETA: This is vehicle theft, the theft from vehicles had none that fit the time frame.

Maybe objects were stolen from cars or other homes to use as weapons? Trying to think how a stolen vehicle would come into play…. but why ruin his grand plan with the risk of being caught for a B&E….

Transporting the victims so no DNA found in his own vehicle?

Yes, this disturbs me. The crime was planned around a couple of these events, but there were things out of his control that still seemed to benefit him. Makes me mad really. JMO.

I should have qualified that because no, I can't be sure. KR does handle some LA cases and as we have discussed here, who would have the financial means to pay that type of retainer, investigators, expert testimony and hourly fees? Unless his parents put up the acreage or DG has significant assets, I don't know how he could afford that type of defence.

Perhaps things didn't happen the way everyone thinks. I keep thinking of David Milgaard and Guy Paul Morin...I sure hope the i's are dotted and t's are crossed here.

I was thinking that too, but then nixed it because his brought his own dang truck to their street (wish we knew where he parked)!

If he was to use another vehicle he would risk being seen by the rightful owners of the vehicle in the neighborhood, right? If he used a stolen vehicle and planted it somewhere for later use, why bother with his own car at all to be in the neighborhood? Hhmm…. thinking….

In regards to the house break-in and 2 vehicle thefts: Does anyone recall if this was shown on the crime map when the 2 homicides were linked to the map? IF this was not updated until after the homicides were posted I am thinking it could be a very plausible connection.

Well how much does he charge? $ 1 Million an hour? Lol (kidding) :)
Obviously there are people who can afford his fees, it was stated that he was quite busy so someone's hiring him.
Could be the acreage was put up, could be there's family money, could be DG has his own money from working doing whatever it was he was doing.
We are assuming the man doesn't have money...why?
He's been in the drug trade in the past, and could very well still be...probably in bigger proportions now...I'll bet he has tons of money.

I think his family has disposable income or more likely DG has a huge savings account.

Well, he had to get there somehow...weren't the vehicle incidents close by? Many people don't know their vehicles have been stolen until they go out in the morning to go to work or wherever....who knows?

we know that he's very persistent and ballsy regarding money owed to him,,, weren't there two small claims cases and then the ei claim. money is very important to him, so important that he risked the three cases above while under an alias and a fugitive.

The vehicles were an easy walking distance from where DG could have parked his truck and to the Liknes home. They may have been parked in a garage, hence the residential break-in. But if 2 trucks were stolen at the same time that would require 2 people which would mean if it was DG he did not act alone or even worked with 2 other people.

This was a Sunday of a long weekend that these above crimes took place. The owners could have been away and same with neighbours. It may have been a quiet Sunday morning.

I had a co-worker who would go thru hell to not spend her money and do everything, every lie conceivable to acquire yours or others. she was very manipulative. in regards to dg it might explain why he chose b&e's, theft and such things that taxes aren't paid on to subsist in order to not touch his own savings. he also probably made a good salary at cantest and bcit. I wonder where he lived in the gvrd? likely Richmond for the cheaper rents.
