What if he attacked by throwing chemicals on the victims at the Parkhill crime scene ... that might explain the unusual tissue on the sidewalk ... aside from a machete/axe? It's most likely that Garland entered the house with a home invasion ... and the best way to overcome the residents is to wait until the light are turned off, and to then "blitz" (as in WW2) the bedroom.

All this speculation about the accused and chemicals ... why assume that this happened at his parent's acreage? Why not question whether he used his knowledge of caustic substances, criminal record, and human tissue to do a home invasion attack with chemicals? That's Garland's expertise, isn't it ... two years in a science degree at the U of Alberta, a meth conviction, and his story of studying (cheating) to become a doctor ... and he's a chemical genius.

If he's a chemical genius, why wouldn't he use his chemical genius to commit murder?

Do we know for sure it was tissue on the sidewalk? I think it's definitely blood or clotted blood on something, but would LE let that it sit out right in the open like that and not put a marker on it, or at least conceal and protect it from view if it was human tissue?

It could be a tiny, ripped piece of bloody fabric from a bag used or it could be pooled blood in the crack as opposed to actual tissue.

I think he wouldn't want to be bringing too much stuff with him when he's 'sneaking' in to kill them. How heavy would that be. At most, I was thinking pepper-sprayed them, tied them up/taped their mouths (or whatever would keep sound muffled) and had them walk out and sit down in his truck while he drove to wherever he went to kill them. But then I thought, even tied up...how do you contain a 200 lb. 6'2" man that is fighting for his life and the lives of his family? Are you suggesting DG 'vaporized' them at their house?
Hmmm, interesting thought.

I was thinking earlier about the hosing of the sidewalk and shoe/foot prints and how none were left visible as far as we can see in the photos (probably because they were hosed away).

I was thinking that if the murderer cleaned his vehicle from head to toe, he still might not have even thought to clean his brakes and gas pedals. If he hastily sprayed his shoes off in the dark, there would still be remnants of blood DNA possibly on the soles of his shoes that would transfer to the gas pedals and brakes.

It could little details like that, that connect the assailant to the crime scene. Who would think to clean those parts of a vehicle? I probably wouldn't!

Nor I! I understand that you can clean blood up all you want, but Luminol (or other agents like that) will show where there was blood under a black light, so whether he thought to clean those areas or not, if there was blood anywhere on anything porous in that truck, he's done.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but maybe it was an old dirty chunk of over-ripe watermelon? You know what that looks like...dark red and chunky...yuck.

That's true. Cherchri has attended court and posted overheard comments here. The mentioned female reporter reportedly said that the photos were from early in the evening, 9-10PM, that a tire iron was the likely murder weapon, and that the victims were vapourized at an Airdrie property ... with lye ... which I've since learned is apparently present in most households for soap making. Lye is not a standard United Farmers of Alberta, united grain growers, product.

Alisa Carpenter ??? ... something like that ... some female CTV reporter apparently shared her "theory of the crime" with one of our posters ... tire iron to vaporization.

Hmmm...I wonder if she still works for them? Is that something a reporter should be doing? I'm seriously curious if this bends some work ethic guidelines or something like that? Seems a little unprofessional to me.

Whether it's true or not, there are certain professions that are looked to as being "experts" or "authorities" on certain things. To the regular 'joe' (say me), if I overheard a reporter saying something like that, I would automatically assume (which is probably erroneous), that they had inside information on the case. I, for instance, had no idea that reporters were just as much in the dark about details in a case as we are. IMO, I don't think this is appropriate behaviour for her in her position. (Kind of like, back in the olden days, when teachers weren't supposed to be seen in bars...) I could be totally offbase here.

Is there a new thread? It occurs to me that I'm here by myself...perhaps no one told me...:hanging:

That's a great pic, thanks otto!
Is it possible to put a pointer in that pic as to where the green pickup truck was captured driving on the road?
Also, I just thought of something to consider about that whole 'drag marks on the sidewalk thing'. The activity occurred sometime between 10pm and 10am. I think someone posted the temperature on that day. From memory, it seems to me that it wasn't all that warm, can someone repost that? Also, what would the nightime temperature have been? What I'm wondering.. okay, first.. I can see on the concrete where the 'water line' is, or shall we say liquid line, so at some time, one time, that cement had water or a liquid. Personally, I don't see it as being red or rusty colored, but I'll take your word for it. In any case, that night, after the deed was done, so way after 10pm.. and likely way before say 5am because he would be risking exposing himself to daylight around then.. if the concrete were washed.. would it really appear to be dry? Wouldn't it take a lot longer? Wouldn't it have the greyer tinge of wet concrete? I realize the photo was taken ... when? hours later? Does anyone know about the rate of concrete drying?

This is where the truck was photographed in relation to the house ... and the temperature that night ... and the Panama connection.

Well...it's Thanksgiving this weekend. The first of our collective "special occasions" since this very sad event.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of KL, AL and NO, their friends and all whom their lives have touched and also with all of those that have poured their hearts and souls into their work on this case that has likely often taken them away from time with their own families. To all of those that this tragedy has affected personally, as perhaps being similar to losses they may have endured or are enduring now, know that somehow, through the Grace of Spirit, there will be healing...perhaps not complete, but enough that the memories of loved ones can be pulled out and looked at with love, joy and happiness, despite the very painful circumstances. I am very grateful that I have not had the misfortune of having to have gone through, or worked with a situation such as this but would like to extend my sincere empathy, compassion and love to those that have. Sharing love, light and blessings with all to hopefully help bring healing and peace to your hearts, and gratitude for the possibility of being able to cherish treasured memories of your loved ones. For the rest, I wish peaceful hearts and the conscious awareness of all that we have to be grateful for. Have a safe and mindful Thanksgiving.

It's like they're bad at day-to-day, real life stuff... But good at lying, hiding and deceiving that comes along with being a murderer!

Failing in day to day activities, such as real life, seems likely. Deception is probably high on the psychological tests that sociopaths fail.

I've never heard of a regulation to post a garage sale anywhere other than a sign on the street or an advertisement in a local newspaper or online sale site. The Calgary Herald has long been a site for last minute garage sale announcements. The advent of the internet hasn't manifested a requirement to register garage sales with the city, has it? For what purpose ... keep people busy at The Firm?
you have to register your garage sale before you place an ad in the paper or start posting signs. in my neighbourhood, the bylaw fellow thinks he's the caretaker of some upscale gated community and will cite you for nearly anything that glances a bylaw,, he's awful,, though you'd be hard pressed to find one pile of dog crap.

It's important to keep Thanksgiving separate from the US Black Friday self-indulgent Shopping Binge that is connecter=d with the US Thanksgiving.

Do you have a link to the City of Calgary website where garage sales should be registered?

... that would be the fastest way to clear up the question of whether city of Calgary registration is require for garage sales. Show us where to register, and then there is no question about whether it is mandatory.

... and how does this factor into the triple murder ... ?

Wonderfully put, beautiful words Tinker. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all the other posters also.

I feel blessed and thankful every day especially when I hear of people suffering here and all over the world. Every second counts, that's one thing we learn from all the tragedies going on that's for sure.

when I made the post I stated with an "imo" that it isn't important. Also I'm to brain dead to go find the city bylaws as I just got home from work and am settling into some eddie izzard for a laugh a poking my head in WS in between sketches.

At the very beginning my thought was that he could have injected them while they were asleep or awake.

I am confused, is the arrow for the dark night pointing to January 7th? I think it would have been darker closer to 10.

There was no injection. This was a brutal murder of Alvin and Kathryn Liknes by a family member because that person was angry for some reason. We'll have to wait until trial to understand why Douglas Garland was angry.

If this was a "genius caustic chemical" murder, I don't think it was by "injection". Caustic and injection don't really work together.

So it's refreshing to know that architects are human, and prone to thinking that arrows point to locations are related to dates.

What arrow?

The third pic that shows the sunrise/sunset. Warning! I have had a few small glasses of wine so I could be off.
