My fictional day consists of sitting on white sand beach in Maui, sipping Dubonet on the rocks with a twist, listening to Mozart.

My reality is I am sitting in a smoke filled room, slurping cold coffee, listening to the sound of my laptop's fan seizing up.

So I guess what I believe to be reality is irrelevant and I really am on that darn beach.

Aloha

Now that sounds pretty good too! Thanks for the visual lol!

Lol, no sweetie, that's Reality with a capital "R"...which most of us don't live. The one we live, we make ourselves...so if you wanna be on that beach, sipping Dubonet with a twist, then you can do that! (I love Dubonnet!) :)

PS...Where did you find a room that could be smoked in??? And I'm sorry about your fan :(

Should have opened the damper on the fireplace? That happens to me every year, first wood fire...:)

People still drink (or dream of drinking) Dubonnet? I have terrible university memories of that beverage! How dare you bring up those memories again!

Wikipedia page on Dubonnet clearly indicates that fans include the Queen and the Queen Mother (bless her soul). And now I guess we can add SB. I'm definitely NOT GOING BACK!

Stan Laurel has a very special gift of getting people thinking in different ways on different subjects. He just comes along and plops down a sentence or two and sort of gets one going down another path. Lots of fun to talk about holistic investigators, connections, fictional and True realities/Realities where a lot of interesting outlooks and beliefs come together good-naturedly. :) Thank you Stan...you're the greatest "poke-them-with-a-stick'er" and "give them something to think about" person I've seen in a long, long while. :)

Unfortunately the reality we're dealing with are 3 murdered family members and one accused man in jail awaiting trial. With a lot of dots that still need connecting and basically zero information, except that which quite a few outstanding sleuthers are doing a bang-up job of uncovering, we're still left with these questions.

1. Who? (Who are the victims/Who did this/Who else maybe helped..maybe not)
2. What? (What really happened despite appearances/what happened to the bodies/what was the motive for this crime/what was the perpetrator thinking?)
3. Where? (Where was this crime committed? One place/two places/three places?/Where are the bodies?)
4. When? (Exactly when did it happen/is it one given time? or, over a day or two?)
5. How? (How did it happen/How was it possible/How did everything seem to line up perfectly for the accused/How did he get them out of that house?)
5. WHY? (What possible reason could there be for such an awful crime to be committed. Was it planned? Was it accidental, then planned? Why would anyone kill 2 people that are reported to be kind/caring and respected, and a 5 year old little boy? Why would anyone be motivated to kill another human being, let alone 3?

[modsnip]

We still need to answer these questions and to unravel the winding road they're leading down...if anyone forgot to order a topping on their pizza, its time to speak up...it could be the missing link (stranger things have happened).

There seems to be so much we don't know as evidenced by the things being uncovered daily. I wonder if we'll ever know. So much information...and that information has got to be connected...it is connected...its just to figure out how.

Those pieces are all going to come together, I just know it!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about motive. I think you are right.

Sometimes I wonder, did DG harbour a certain resentment towards AL because of the patent issue. Not enough to want to kill. But maybe enough to feel resentful about the charmed life AL seemed to be leading. I wonder if it's possible DG heard through the family grapevine that the Ls were selling everything and retiring to sunny Mexico. Is it possible the original motive was theft and nothing more? Maybe DG planned to simply steal the proceeds of the 3 day estate sale, a relatively easy theft, so to speak. Maybe he planned to sneak in after the Ls went to sleep, to steal the cash. He may have thought he'd put a monkey wrench in their retirement plan, which would appease his resentment over the patent issue. Plus DG could come away with a nice chunk of cash.

Then maybe when he entered to L home, instead of being able to sneak around and find the cash stash, he instead woke one or both of the Ls, who recognized him, thus setting off a violent incident, the result of which was the death of the 3 victims.

It's not a theory I'm married to, but I have often wondered if this was a small plan on DG's part that escalated into something much worse.

Thoughts?

It could be as simple as that, but I think there's much more to it.

There's DG who has a pretty clear-cut past...drugs, theft, fraud (false id), mental issues, cheating in University...pretty petty, pretty cowardly, and pretty low-key.

There's the Liknes' who are clearly victims, as well as NO. Unfortunately there's an awful lot of skeletons in the closet...those skeletons have got to have something to do with this, I don't believe they're coincidences, or just mistakes people make along the way in life...there are many of them, there is more questionable activity and occurences that has happened in that famiy than DG has (I don't know if I'm allowed to say that, please snip if not)...they're too wide-spread amongst many members of the family. There's some strange behaviour from family members throughout this (which may or may not be explainable through the grieving process). I can't imagine what could cause such resentment from DG enough to kill them? Surely not the patent that didn't go anywhere, surely not the Mexico property (DG stands to inherit a very nice acreage and perhaps if the Garland contribution was through PG, that may have been part of her early inheritance so he wouldn't begrudge her that), and surely not the meager amount of money the L's would've made at the Estate sale. If this was an accidental thing, DG must've had a back-up plan in case something like this would happen, but I don't think that was likely if his intent was only to steal money from them. There's something else. There had to be intense hatred or anger or something that spurred this...but what could that possibly be? Maybe something that hasn't been discovered yet...maybe we're all following a common/logical path to find the answers and they're not down this particular path. I really don't know. Maybe DG is just really not well mentally, more than has been discovered to date by physicians?

The comments above are copied from a previous thread. (August, Thread 12)

When I read over the thread we talked about it being Consort or possibly Evansburg. For example, if AL and son AL were in business together and owned this land and transfered it to AL's twin brother we have a business transaction between family members. Could it be possible that DG was involved with this end of things? I sense that this case is more about money and the money is from land. I wonder if the family is aware of any land transfers and financial transactions between the twin brothers and son AL. I wonder if DG was involved with the extended family and who else might have had "bad-blood" within the family. Just thinking out loud in regards to motive...

Thoughts sticking out for me about DG:
- His truck was seen driving around Parkhill on the evening of June 29th
- DG and AL had worked on a patent and had a dispute over it (which is hearsay)
- We do not know if DG is guilty of the charges of murder. We must consider this.
- AL (son) seems to have a negative relationship with his brother-in-law DG
- AL and his father AL have had business dealings together as well other family members including the twin brother AL
- AL is married to DG's sister. AL jr. is the closest link to DG.

With ALJr being a closer link, maybe DG's motive lies in getting back at ALJr for something. Maybe DG disliked the Likneses as a whole in general and didn't like his sister with ALJr.

What a better way to hurt and cause pain to ALJr then to harm his parents. Also, maybe AL/KL weren't the only people he planned to harm, maybe there is evidence there were others in his plan. Maybe that's part of the premeditation, maybe there was a list with a couple more on it. Just brainstorming.

Did anyone see the movie There Will Be Blood with Daniel Day Lewis as the oilman in late 19th century California? At the crux of the movie when he has the verbal stand off with his adopted son, he says "The only reason I took you under wing was to help buy land with sympathy from prospective sellers.." or something to this effect.

What strikes me as odd in the estate sale and noted as awe how cute was how it states that NO had to remind/prompt his Grandparents to say thank you after someone bought something? How does one not say thank you after a transaction? Now I may sound nit picky, but, it brings me back to the movie,, was NO there to help boost sales? Was little NO there to make an uncomfortable meeting later that night less unpleasant, a stop fast to a potential escalation in tempers? (as LL pointed out)?

Honestly, tomorrow in your regular day to day, do not say Thank You,, betcha can't.

In regards to Tink and Sherlock Holmes,, I remember years ago the author Arthur talking about being in med school and having a teacher discuss with incredible accuracy everything about a cadaver/person without having to look at their paperwork. So this is who Sherlock Holmes was based on. I'm sure the footage of Arthur Conan Doyle talking about this can be found on Youtube.

Also, why after not letting family help in a search did they let AL'son go out looking?

Finally, though ADD, maybe DG was hyper-fixated on AL/KL no different than we are fixated on this case. The only difference being,,,, DG experienced something akin to how PTSD affects our vets and those not prepared for such experiences. There is a vast chasm between self-recognized humility and being absolutely played for a fool and humiliated. The latter is even worse when family takes the side of the bully and brushes off the incident as trivial.

There was some recent discussion on how long the KL/AL lived in the Parkhill home. Repost from Wondergirl (Thread #1):

Another neighbour tells the Sun the missing adults lived there 17 years and were moving but he never did hear where to. #yyc

I am sure that CH said she was there in the evening. I remember the quote from the neighbour, it came across as an extended get together. Hmmmm!

I was curious about the reminder from NO to his grandparents, I wonder if there was a situation previously (maybe even that day) that NO witnessed and the grandparents dealt with the situation by explaining manners and please and thank-you's. Maybe it wasn't with a stranger or estate sale purchaser and with someone they knew and NO was in the same room.

I also do not understand why LE would allow a family member to search. What if that person had an opportunity to place evidence? Not saying he did place or find anything, but if he did find something I wonder how that will play out in court.

If this is all a love triangle gone bad I wonder why the patent was always the reference and not his infatuation with KL. I am no expert on PTSD but if DG was bullied he very well could have snapped. All I can think of about this is that if he is being framed he would be suffering from these emotions right now more than ever. I hope that made sense... Time for bed!

Yes, great movie. Great acting and interesting character study of a man that's so lonely and in his own head and bound to explode and takes his life out on a man so opposite of himself that he despises.

That is interesting what you say about NO and the manners and thank-you. The only reason I can think of for people not saying thank-you is if they're frazzled, or their mind is somewhere else/they are distracted, or usually people who are in a hurry or rush.

However, I can't see the grandparents 'using' their grandson. It sounds like they both loved him dearly. If they needed a buffer for an unpleasant meeting, wouldn't they use JO or CH or another adult? It's hard for me to wrap my head around grandparents using a child as armor.

But I have to say, my hubby just sold something online yesterday and a woman came with her two children to pick it up! That shocked me for some reason. Why in the world would a woman bring her two kids to a stranger's home she's never met to do buy something?? So, who knows, people don't think sometimes.

I really don't know. I doubt it. I think that the buyer is going to tear down the house and demolition would not necessarily be scheduled at the beginning of the month. If the house is still standing I would rule out the construction start date. I doubt the house has been rented out again especially this early after a murder. I would think the L's would have had a few more days at least of unfinished business.
