Has anyone seen the movie Gone Girl? It's based on a fictional book (haven't read).

I just saw the movie last week, I can't really say too much as I don't want to give away the plot to those who may want see it. But it's definitely an interesting story, reminded me a bit of Scott Peterson, as well as some things that totally reminded me of this case and some of our discussions/theories on here.

I actually couldn't believe what happened in the movie, it echoed one of our ideas on here so much it was spooky!

ETA - Yes, I know the book/movie is fiction and this is real life, but still spooky in regards to similarities.

Deflection?
Lost me.

I'm sure that the CPS are trained to eliminate the possibility of a staged crime scene.
To question whether DNA evidence confirming that the three victims are deceased is valid is to doubt the statements of the Calgary Chief of Police.

The 20 year old green T150 Ford pickup truck in pristine condition was the smoking gun.

There is a very legitimate chance he may have that interpretation of the evidence cross examined while on the stand at trial.

So sad for you, Tinkerbel1, for the loss of your dog. I know how hard that can be. I hope you are taking some time to be good to yourself at such a sad time. Peace.
Ohhh...thank you so much...she was a little sweetheart but she was 19 and it was time for her to go...as I said, that is hard enough...I absolutely cannot imagine how people that lose their children cope...that must be why I chose not to have them...it must be devastating. The saying "God doesn't give you what you can't handle" is the cruelest statement I've ever heard I think :(

Thank you for admitting your flawed logic.

Others are allowed to question if the victims are alive, without having the words put in their mouth that LE is incompetent. They can also think LE did a good job, but look at the evidence open mindedly to determine if there is a way they are alive.
In no way did I "admit my flawed logic". In no way did i put words in anyone's mouth. Perhaps you just don't like it when folks disagree with you?

To review: I said, as politely as possible, "if there is a way LE could have been wrong or lying and falsely charged DG with murder yet not be incompetent (or worse) it would be helpful to these discussions if someone could explain how that could possibly be."
[see, this was me, attempting to advance the normal discourse of an Internet forum through polite give and take of theories or opinions]
You responded "many, many different reasons", which I am ( again) open to hearing.

is it possible to continue this line of discussion without the adversarial tones? I believe I did offer to buy the first round of beers, does that not count for anything?? :toast:

Yes, it is against the rules to cast aspersions without foundation.
,,,, I do have foundations but they still break the rules. It would be nice to see you pull up something websleuthed for a change.

It goes without saying, that evidence can be faked or planted, DNA evidence can be contaminated, evidence misinterpreted, evidence missing that tells the complete story, computer glitches, miscommunications etc... none of which point to incompetence. Questioning the evidence, to eliminate the possibility they are alive, does not mean you believe anyone to be incompetent.

Investigate what?
The disappearance and murder of course. Hypothetically speaking, no one knows the investors backing some businesses. The Hells Angels and other organized groups come to mind...no one walk up to them and calls them in as a singular POI. I have a feeling that LE may approach this lead avenue withan unorthodox plan...one doesn't 'invite them in as POI...one (namely LE would methodically weed out the too guy. Not a garden party variety tulip there. That's a group, that is large, without loads of compassion.. So a strategy to pin them with something would be a huge undertaking. And may require the "story to get them to step up and be interrogated" based on a false set up with false information. There could be another dynamic here as well. Jmo

Another good angle to see things in. Very good point, DG could've been *that weird guy* that no one talks or wants to talk about or to, nonetheless be around if he was considered an embarrassment, antisocial and the family pariah.

DG could've been brushed under the rug by everyone for a long period of time and maybe finally snapped about it and somehow blamed ALSr. if he was the alpha male of the huge family. This could very well be motive also.

Alvin being the alpha male that caused Doug Garland to snap and murder his sister's in-laws only works if Doug's sisters' rights were violated.

Motive is most likely tied to money. Douglas and his two sisters stand to inherit a large property that was recently annexed to Airdrie. The annexation increases the value exponentially. An acreage in the city is worth a lot more than outside of the city. I sure hope that no one tried to take an advance on the winfall ... as in ... hopefully Doug's sister didn't ask her parents for $20k to pitch in for her husband's familys' Mazatlan condo.

AlvinLiknes liquidated his business, as he had done before, through bankruptcy. His house had been sold six months earlier, and his wife had declared bankruptcy the year before. All assets were transferred and apparently separate from bad business relationships and dealings with Winter Oil and Gas. It appeared that Alvin was not bankrupt, and neither was his wife, yet both had declared bankruptcy with a plan to retire to their newly purchased condo in Mazatlan.

Garland money was included in the purchase of the Mazatlan condo purchase. Which Garland pitched in the money, and why?

Dropping in to break up the party! ;)

So about Mexico...something that's been on my mind for a bit...
I know there was one article....but IIRC ...only one saying there was a 'joint' ownership in a condo....

Other than that one article...*if someone has a link that would be GREAT*...do we really know the 2 families had bought a condo together?
I have my doubts....IIRC that article correctly...it may have been shoddy reporting....obviously FL & AL have theirs in Mexico already...& we know that AL & KL were going there...either before or after Edmonton...conflicting reports on that as well...
I just have questions whether there ever was a joint purchase...

lala...about Gone Girl...read the book....it's a gooder hey...;)

I wish that someone had kept company with the victims on the night that they were murdered.
They apparently didn't have a dog, and were vulnerable to a break in.

Hi Tinkerbel1, haven't seen you around.
My hubby is from a big close family. I am aware of a horrible scandal within one of the in-law families. I was present for a very unfortunate gossip session in which the dirty family laundry was aired. The family member who shared the details later regretted it, and asked that we never repeat the story to anyone as it would cause great distress to their spouse if others knew. I now know things I wish I didn't. I can guarantee that at least half of the family is unaware of this awful scandal.

I could see it being that way with the extended L family. It's possible AL Jr. did not want to blab the details of his wayward BIL to his extended family, out of respect for his wife and his Inaws. I'm sure that, for them, the criminal background of DG is a source of great heartache and something they would wish to keep private.

IMHO
Point taken and understandable. Perhaps I am nosey! I know everyone in mine..whether they've been swept under the rug or not. Lol
