Police Chief Hanson is confident they will never find the remains of Nathan O'brien, Kathy and Alvin Liknes.
He states that the evidence that will be presented at trial will make this clear.

Ugh, that just gave me a sick feeling in my stomach, the thought is so dreadful. I hope it's nothing disgusting and sinister and something more organic and natural if that makes sense. This case still breaks my heart when I come on this thread :(

Thanks for the info! Gee, makes one wonder if they read this thread and this info was directed to WS'ers! Now we know and can stop speculating and wondering and close that door.

It is nice to know we aren't the only ones wondering about crime maps! I am still hesitant to close any doors ;)

I am holding hope that it isn't the detailed methods that we have discussed on here. I am still not convinced that LE has significant proof that would point in that direction.

If DG is guilty, I wish that he would come forth and admit what he has done and bring the family answers and dignity.

If DG is guilty I wish he'd grant the family some closure and provide info too. It seems common that many murderers do not give this information to families of their victims, it's a power thing they relish.

If DG is guilty I really hope he's different and for Nathan's sake, provides the family with beneficial info to help them heal (if that's even possible). Time will tell I guess.

It's interesting that Chief Hanson doesn't believe the bodies will be found, and he states it so surely. I don't understand how that statement can be made unless they've found evidence for him to come to this conclusion? If so, why hasn't this evidence been disclosed to the family to bring them closure? It doesn't make sense that the Police Chief can make this statement without something to back it up. Unless there has been a confession from DG regarding their murders? If that is true, then wouldn't we have heard of it as well, or is that something that can't be disclosed either? If there was a confession, one would think a plea would have been made and that a preliminary hearing would not be necessary. It seems a bit off to me. JMO

Recently when RO and JO did those interviews regarding Nathan's Legacy Fund they talked about hoping to find Nathan's remains. It just doesn't make sense.

If the victims and their remains were treated in a way that is hard to stomach and heinous LE could be sparing the family more misery by keeping the info from them. I don't think LE is obligated to give those details to families or the public, and they might not be legally allowed to tell families these things until after a 'fair' trial.

I don't think the family or public knew what happened in the Tim Bosma case until after trial did they? I'm not sure of this though…it's definitely a curious question we all want to know!

I just sleuthed the writer. She has been working on the article for over a year but never submitted it because CPS would never call her back until recently. Once she finished the article she submitted it to The Calgary Journal and they pick what they publish and chose her article. She is a young and aspring journalist and student. I think that is pretty cool!

That is super cool! I guess we probably weren't the only ones scratching our heads about it.

I'm not sure what you are referring to.. I only saw the CBC video and article by Rob Brown. ?

ETA: Ok nevermind, I see that you are referring to the crime stats story. I can see why CPS would not want to list 'domestic' because that is 'personal' and between family, usually spouses, and could provide clues to nosey neighbours, and isn't fair to the victim (usually the wife).. and I can also see why they would not want to list drug manufacturing, production and trafficking since it could invite people who want to purchase. I'm not really getting how the silence would apply in this case however, since, if LE already are so certain the family is dead, and that they have the correct perp behind bars, and also since they have listed 'part' of the crime.. why not the rest?

I was pretty sure that LE was still 'searching for the victims' even after laying charges. Will have to go back and check.

There hasn't been a trial yet - in this case, the police revealed what they had discovered.

Lala, the trial in the Bosma case hasn't happened yet. The tiny bit of remains that were recovered were returned to the family. I think LE is not able to divulge much more to the family than they are to MSM, however if everything is to come out at trial, you would *hope* that for the sake of remaining family, LE would be able to break news to them gently, rather than having them hear about it publicly during trial in the same way that everyone else hears about it. Seems so cruel.

Thanks for clearing up my mistake! :) Bad me. I don't why I thought that trial happened??!! Maybe because I've heard so much, I had thought the details came out a trial, oh gee, might have to drink more coffee before posting on here!

I agree with you about sharing the gory details...BUT...they should at the very least let them know that the remains (or parts thereof) have been found and that ''cause of death is undetermined'' to spare them. I don't believe it is right to withhold the info that something has definitely been found (if that is in fact the reason why RH has stated they will never be found). It's the parent's and family's right to know that something of their loved one(s) has been recovered, no matter how small. If it's a fact, it's a fact. Delivery of the information is what needs to be delicate, not withholding it. Before trial or after trial I don't think matters. There's no reason to keep "partial remains" a secret until post-trial. They've already been declared deceased...upon whatever findings there may be, they would be 'proven' deceased. No difference to the case other than absolute closure for the families. Conversely, making that disclosure would likely erase the need to have a preliminary hearing. JMO
