Global is reporting the search at the Garland Acreage as a "massive search".
http://globalnews.ca/video/1910740/police-search-for-more-evidence-in-liknes-case

"Sun, Mar 29 : There’s a massive search happening right now east of Airdrie. Police are back at the property of the parents of accused killer Douglas Garland. "

In the video it is said that investigators are expected to be on the property for several more days. Douglas Garland remains in protective custody between the Calgary and Medicine Hat Remand Centre. Friend, Cherri Hodgins made a comment implying that the police were possibly following up on a lead. Police are formally stating they are preparing for the upcoming trial.

maybe dg's parents noticed something out of place?

Her statement sounds like pure speculation, and I'm quite certain she has no inside information. I suspect in preparation for the upcoming preliminary hearing, something needed to be revisited or re-inspected. The video of the current search didn't seem massive...

I wish they could find someone else to talk to.

on the periphery, I really think imho that jim Nevada likes the limelight and attention in all of this, all the while stating that things have got back to normal, but there he is, front and center, the spokesman for the area, grinning and lovin it. I mean who tipped off the media, LE or JN?

I know, it makes sense that Global would contact her as she was always in their coverage. Possibly, she has talked to the O'briens and they gave her the information.

I truly hope they are following up on a significant lead.

I was asking myself the same thing about the other "spokesperson"... but since I have been crass and controversial enough already today, I thought I would take a message off.

So what are the chances of a publication ban on the evidence at the preliminary hearing?

I wonder if the sale of the house was stalled by the murder case??? I have seen it happen before, where the home where a homicide took place was left empty until after trial. If Prosecutors are theorizing that at least one, if not all the murders happened in the home, it is possible that the house is now tied up with the case.

The brand new executive house in Victoria where realtor Lindsay Buziak was murdered (butchered is more like it) approx. 7 years ago still sits empty last I heard. No one has touched that home, and it's a nice home in a nice neighborhood. I wonder if the same will happen with the Liknes home, I can't see anyone wanting to live there especially if a child passed there. Unless they knock down the place, it might not ever sell.

On the opposite note, IIRC a semi famous rock star used the Sharon Tate home in L.A. as a recording studio. Ugh, creepy!

Surely one would think and hope that LE had taken all the photos they would have needed to take, at the time they had control of the property? That seems so strange to me.

Would the change of the season expose any new evidence or realizations with the land/soil/growth, etc.?

For example: if chemicals were used (I'm still hoping they weren't) but if they were let's say - on a grassy area, maybe the grass isn't growing there now but is everywhere else. If they found fragments on that same area where grass isn't growing, they can build and paint a picture for the jurors. Hypothetical, but maybe something like that.

I do appreciate your insight and responses to my rambles. It keeps me in check and especially with the JMB thread I need to keep myself neutral and unbiased especially while talking with the family.

News will catch up with you when she feels up to it :)

The new season could definetly expose certain ground disturbances. I wonder if that company from Grand Prairie could take another fly over the property.

Whoah, that's interesting….DG is still in protective custody….that surprises me after all this time. Is he scared for his life? I don't think inmates get protective custody if on suicide watch, I think it's called something else. Will try to find out, I'm foggy on all this.

And a lead???? This seems kinda major.

Yeah, good thought! Could be something like that. Yuck, I feel bad his parents live there still if something sinister went down there which it probably did. Unless they're in denial about it him doing it…. how they can stay…. it must be so hard on them, they're victims in all this too.

Just preempting a trip to the couch...

It is important to be brutally honest, even in the grieving process... especially in the grieving process. Unchecked anger can just worsen things, and it does the griever no good to validate irrational actions. Validate the feeling if you must, but discussing the possible consequences of extreme actions is something I would encourage...

I'm not surprised he's still in PC ... (alleged) baby killers don't do well in jail.
