They didn't state more than one individual which sometimes they release when remains are discovered. Hopefully the discovery will bring closure to the families of at least one missing person - albeit tragic.

Police departments across the province have been asked to forward all unsolved cases of missing persons and suspicious deaths among women who lived high-risk lives, but those officers also are reluctant to talk about cases that have become part of Project Kare.

An RCMP spokesman has suggested 14 cases in the Calgary region are now linked to the task force. The Calgary Police Service denies the number is that high, yet will not provide a list. However, two unsolved Calgary homicides involving prostitutes in 1991 have been tied to Project Kare.

---

As of 2009:

To avoid developing tunnel vision, the task force also has purposely taken on a large number of cases. Besides the 41 homicide cases involving people leading "high-risk lifestyles," they also are probing the disappearance of another 31 people. Police have refused to release names or the time period over in which most vanished.

I don't know why these yahoos haven't already made topographical imagery of these remote areas and crowdsource the search for bodies. It's pretty obvious there are people being killed and found in remote areas, sometimes in the middle of fields. I guess it might be expensive, but obviously the owners of these properties aren't looking over their properties regularly. Might solve some of these missing persons cases hey?

EDIT: Like a Google Street View for dead people.

We don't know who the body that was found belongs too... That's why we were looking at possibilities aside from Shannon, but no problem.

I know that, but Project KARE has been called in, so unless it is determined to be related to the O'Brien/Liknes case (which it has not been), continued discussion of past KARE cases belongs in another thread.

I think since Garland was also being looked at in connection with a woman's body found, the Project Kare discussion is relevant, and a closer look at the various murders, profiles, and details is fair.

"One of the cases being looked at is the death of Helena Mihaljevic. The 32-year-old was found dead in a rural area near Airdrie in 2007, nearly a year after she went missing."

“If you have unsolved crimes and you have no idea who might have done them, then you have an individual who you suspect is capable of doing a range of very violent actions, then it makes sense,” says forensic psychologist Dr. Perry Sirota. “There might be a fit between what this person is suspected of doing, because of course it’s alleged now and it might fit with a pattern of crimes that remain unsolved.”

I forgot what thread I was on! LOL. So many of these cases possibly overlap, it is easy to forget.

My point with the O'Brien/Liknes case was, that the description provided in the link for those homicides, described DG almost perfectly... right down to the truck and the forensic psychological profile:

The Edmonton suspect drives a truck, a van, or a sport utility vehicle as opposed to a car, and that he is comfortable driving in rural areas.

The vehicle is suitably maintained and likely has a significant amount of mileage. The suspect cleans the inside and outside of the car at times that are perhaps unusual.

The vehicle may be used for work and outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing or farming.

He may live or work, or have friends or family in areas south of Edmonton such as Leduc, Camrose, New Sarepta or surrounding communities.

The fact that many of the bodies have been left in easy-to-find places could be a telling detail about what type of person police are seeking, according to Elliott Leyton, a Newfoundland-based forensic anthropologist and expert on serial killers.

"It's just a contempt for what they are dumping, a contempt for the police and tremendous respect for themselves," he said. "That's a significant part of the kick these guys get out of this is the cockiness: the feeling that they are fooling and taunting the authorities. The whole 'Look, I did it again, you morons.' "

If you wish to discuss Helena's case which has been mentioned in relation to DG and in which Project KARE is assisting, that is fine, but for indepth discussion about other KARE cases that have not been connected by KARE or in MSM, please use the appropriate thread:

Another interesting parallel is that Travis Vader is once again out on bail. We have yet to see any motions for bail in DG's case. The preliminary hearing is coming up in the next few weeks... Yet no bail application. If Vader can get out, I cannot understand why DG hasn't made the application?

Many people, myself included, may not have been aware of Project Kare's existence, were it not for the discussions in this very thread. To look at, and possibly connect a body left somewhere for "some time" to what has already been established as a possible involvement in similar crimes by DG is not out of line. It's sleuthing by it's very definition.

Everyone adds pieces, without intricately describing and defending why it has to be included in the thread. That would become taxing, monotonous and dull reading. It is automatically assumed the posts are somehow connected to the thread.

For all we know Douglas Garland is a serial killer. It could soon be proven that he is skilled enough to make 3 bodies disappear and those bodies may never be recovered. We need to consider that he may possibly be involved in many more deaths and with his age and profile he could very well be responsible for many murdered and missing women that KARE investigates. JMO.

People don't wake up one day and brutally murder three people, one being a five year old child. He clearly has deep rooted issues.

When you listen to the Amber Tuccaro recording, the voice does sound like an 'older' man. We also have to keep in mind, that DG spent a great deal of time in Edmonton.

Does anyone remember the dates that he went to school there?

The 'remains' that were found on Sunday.. that was already 5 days ago.. and notice the article says the remains have been examined by the ME.... and that they are investigating the 'origin' and circumstances', but they do not say they are trying to identify the remains... so does this mean they have already identified the remains, but they are keeping that silent for now?

The remains are being examined by the office of the medical examiner in Edmonton.“Further efforts are being made to determine the origin and circumstances surrounding the remains found,” RCMP said.

Hard to say. In the article I posted upthread, on the PK cases, it states that LE have been collecting DNA for a few years now in the event that remains turn up and require identification.

Well... many of those who mass kill out of anger are doing it for the first time. Serial killing has an element of pleasure and need to it, rather than a targeted person and reason.

The killing of NO was likely not planned, was spur of the moment, and done to eliminate any interruption or witness of the planned crime.

In this case of remains being found 'next to agricultural land', if the case was passed on to the KARE Project, would that mean they suspect that it is the remains of a woman with a high-risk lifestyle? Or does KARE take on any remains? Or even if not particularly fitting others in the KARE Project, might they get involved to check similarities?

I wonder if LE now has a DNA sample of DG and has cross referenced it with the missing women cases...
