I don't recall LE stating that though... Wasn't that the offered speculation from the media? It seemed the motive was over a patent. I have difficulty with that one.

The problem is, LE are not in a position to confirm or deny anything, because at that time, they had already placed him under arrest. After an arrest, they can't say *anything* - that is why I was sceptical as to where the M/O came from. I figured it was surmised by the media based on what little info they were able to dig up on him after the arrest.I think the one presser touched on it. I can't remember right now. LE did not oppose the media reports if that counts for anything.

I believe you are referring to the oldest son? The brother in-law? Yet, he also said, that he hadn't spent much time with DG in the past year, adding that the patent was the only thing they could think of, IIRC.It may have come as background from a family member.

It's all part of the equation. It's not a black and white, easy to pinpoint reasoning. It's far more than a need for control, self loathing, or anger at women... and is as individualistic as the perpetrator... but with the biological need to multiply. That is what I meant. Please stop.

Hmmm. I will have to look further into this. I thought the patent came out prior to his official arrest and that it was during questioning and before his release.
If there is anything more to the motive, family won't offer it up publicly given the nature of family covering for loved ones, and LE can't discuss it pending the future court cases. Without the bodies, I would expect there must be some fairly poignant evidence pointing to motive and planning. It would be tough to point it at an individual without something of that nature.I believe you are referring to the oldest son? The brother in-law? People don't wake up one day and brutally murder three people, one being a five year old child. He clearly has deep rooted issues.
When you listen to the Amber Tuccaro recording, the voice does sound like an 'older' man. We also have to keep in mind, that DG spent a great deal of time in Edmonton.
Does anyone remember the dates that he went to school there?
Now THAT'S a topic for another thread, but yes... it's why every human does what they do, from dressing nice, to making lots of money, to wearing makeup, to relationships... it's all about our very base biological programming.I agree and it should be considered. I don't get the biological need to multiply. Do you mean sperm donor or what?
He went to the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He didn't finish but faked a degree.DG went to school in Edmonton? I thought it was Airdrie, or maybe it was PG who went to school in Airdrie. Sorry, I forget some stuff!

LE even went to Mexico at one point. It's not unreasonable to think there is more than just the patent at issue between the players.CBC News has learned that Garland and Alvin*Liknes*were*involved in a*patent dispute*and that*there was "bad blood" between them because of business dealings that had gone sour.
Liknes*had previously registered a*patent for an apparatus that separates gas from water.*Family members confirmed to CBC News that the patent was a sore point between Liknes and Garland, who had*worked together in the past.
Police have confirmed they*are investigating a business relationship between Garland and Alvin*Liknes.*
"There are*some business issues that we are looking into," Calgary Police Service spokesperson Kevin*Brookwell said on July 10.
"I can't get into specifics about what these are and who was involved, what they look like or how many people were involved. But*yes, we have got a number of people who are looking into that."*

DG may have needed to satisfy his sexual frustrations and so he chose to target high-risk lifestyle women. His sexual needs could be a frustration of built up anger and once he has his release he murders them to satisfy/release his anger and contempt. Then he tosses the body, cleans his truck, goes back home for chores.
Allen Liknes is intent on being present for each and every court appearance of his brother-in-law Douglas Garland, a man he describes as a loner whom he hasnt seen in more than four years.I remember AL's older son AL2 being quoted, in fact I believe it was also in a video, to say that it did NOT end on bad terms, but then another family member, I believe it was JO's husband, who said it HAD ended badly.
