Yes, prelim might take up to 2 weeks. Then I guess we'll know if there will be a trial and I guess we would find out if extra charges will be added if this is possible. We will also have to wait the 2 weeks to find out if DG will take a plea if he's guilty and there's tons of evidence. KR did say it was the most disclosure he's seen, link is upthread in Lois' post.

What additional charges could be added? Any theories on that? Did we ever come to a conclusion of sorts regarding the latest search of the acreage?

There was a recent incident in Vancouver where the victim was chopped into over 100 pieces... the suspect was also charged with performing an indignity to a body along with murder. LE hasn't found the bodies yet in this case.

That makes sense. Kind of gruesome. Did not Chief Hansen (when he was chief) make a statement that he did not believe the bodies would ever be located in this case. I will find link, I'm sure I read that.

Can the preliminary be cut short if enough disclosure satisfies the Judge in the first few days?

Yes, Chief Hansen did say that. I wish he would have been more affirmitive by stating something like "Evidence concludes..."

Hello

I hope no one has been sitting in the preliminary hearing and spilling on a forum. The preliminary hearing is closed, and no one who has sat in court during the preliminary hearing can comment; not even on a forum.

When is the trial?

What do you mean closed? As in a closed courtroom?

He can't offer interpretations of the evidence publicly... or even identify the evidence.

But he said things like "piece by piece" "in consultation with the crown"...

No. When the trial starts, I might look for a good camera vantage point.
You? ... been to court?

No, I have not been to court.

Can anyone off the street attend a preliminary hearing where there is a PB? There must be some sort of screening or level of clearance.

  • #791
I believe any member of the public can attend. They will be checked for weapons as they enter the courthouse. I think that is about all the screening they do.

Former Police Chief Hanson totally screwed up when he was seduced by the Conservative Party and given an appointed position. Hanson was not elected after his appointment ... stupid move - a mistake.

Is that right?? I hadn't heard that part about Hanson not being elected after his appointment?? Wow! So what is the man doing now then??

True enough. What a kick in the head that must be.

I'm sorry, I find that story confusing. Was this a provincial election where Hanson was a provincial candidate in one of the Calgary ridings? And the NDP is now in power in the province of Alberta for the next 4 years? Oh wow, my deepest sympathies to all of you Calgarians out there.

What's the fixation on a retired police officer?

Hanson was appointed in one of Calgary's ridings shortly before an election (he abruptly resigned in the middle of a police contract) ~ Jim Prentice seduced Hanson to become a politician (Hanson was foolish to follow Prentice). It appears to be a floor crossing from Police Chief to Politician. After the floor crossing, Hanson was not elected. That was the end of his political career, and the end of his policing career.

The NDP is running Alberta, but that doesn't mean they run the country's oil valves. Premier Christie, in BC, has just approved an oil refinery in BC. The Indians are refusing land rights, thankfully. Typically Canada ships oil processing out of the country to reduce environmental risks and consequences. Western Canada appears to be run by wolves in sheep's clothing.

The Indians eh?

Ribbit Indeed.

<modsnip> Did we not see a wood chipper in photos? Did we not speculate at length about DG and his affinity for chemicals? Do we actually know that AL, KL and NO were even at the acreage? What about the dump?

The NDP were cruising to an election win regardless of who was running. Prentice set that in motion and Notley took full advantage. Politics aside, Hansen may have made a career choice that turned out to be the wrong one, but he is still a good man. He has "policed" the City of Calgary with integrity, humility and honesty for many years.
