Grasping at straws again in hopes there was some small mercy for Nathan...the fact that one of Garland's internet searches was 'how to kill with no emotion' shows maybe he was worried he couldn't go through with finishing a murder. So to be surprised by Nathan, I'm hoping since he wasn't in original plan it was swift with less suffering. If he was focused on his plan with A & K, maybe he got the boy out of the way to not mess with his meticulous plan.

Another thing about the internet searches, this sounds gory but I wonder if Garland struggled with thinking he didn't have the nerve to go through the murder part and was more interested in performing the gory aftermath (restraining, autopsies, etc.) Maybe he obsessed about what he would do after more than the murders themselves if that makes sense.

I guess I'm hoping there was no torture, living out fantasies or any sort of 'tampering' done until after they were deceased. With his science/medical background, maybe this is something he obsessed over.

Since there was no blood in the pull-out couch room, I guess my question is whether Kathy and Nathan voluntarily moved upstairs to the spare room after JO and the baby vacated it, or were they taken up by DG?

I'm hoping Nathan got hot and took off part of the pink pajamas and they went upstairs for a comfier sleep. I really don't want it to be the other scenario.

If I recall it was really hot that weekend and the following week. It's quite possible that he stripped down to be cooler. I'm going with that for now. I just can't think about any other reason why his PJ's would be on the floor.

According to an expert that testified at the Tim Bosma trial (Tim's body was cremated in an animal incinerator) getting DNA from ashes is impossible. Even bits of bone that were left could not give up DNA so unless there is a difference due to the amount of heat generated in an incinerator vs. a burn barrel I don't think they will be able to get DNA from the ashes.

It's possible that one of them was wrapped in that sheet and he took it with them. But a sheet seems like something that could easily be burned too, so I can't see him throwing it away to go to a landfill...but then again he might not have been thinking very clearly obviously

It was actually really hot right after the disappearance. The day of was unseasonably cool (about 16 degrees C.)

But, I do believe that it is very plausible that the kid could have removed his pants to stay cool when sleeping (or asked for his pants to be taken off.)
