How depressing.[emoji20]

According to an expert that testified at the Tim Bosma trial (Tim's body was cremated in an animal incinerator) getting DNA from ashes is impossible. Even bits of bone that were left could not give up DNA so unless there is a difference due to the amount of heat generated in an incinerator vs. a burn barrel I don't think they will be able to get DNA from the ashes.

I think you are right. Even with the bits of bone that were found I don't think they will be able to prove they were human. I think that is why the crown is trying to establish that there was no Livestock on the farm and that DG did not hunt. Defense will probably say they are animal bones.

I didn't really follow this case, probably because I spent so much time on the Bosma case, but it really does bring back some bad memories doesn't it? All of this evidence is new to me...and very disturbing. :(

Considering that the family burned their garbage the bones in the burn barrel could easily also be scrap bones from dinner. Chicken bones, beef/steak bones, etc.

I'm fearing that Alvin was made to watch the torture and killing of his wife and Grandson<modsnip>
Agreed.

The thought makes me physically sick.

I guess this is the first clue of what DG's defense is going to be? Perhaps he is suggesting that either AL or KL must have committed a double murder/suicide at his farm? :waitasec:

MOO

The police officers and the daughter had no clue what they walked into.
One of their first thoughts may have been a domestic and then a domestic murder-suicide. But they couldn't find any clues to support that theory.
A home invasion usually leaves the victims alive and at the scene. None of this made sense to anybody.
It's extremely rare for a home invasion-kidnapping-murder and to have two crime scenes.

Hi Kamille, good to see you over here.

I followed both cases and thought the Bosma case was horrendous. It's mild now in comparison to this one. I don't think any of us ever expected the turn that this has taken.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I started following along on websleuths during the Bosma trial but never got up the nerve to post.

Me too! If only......

It appears that he was right in the middle of the mayhem as it was occurring. It makes me sick to think how scared he must have been.

Mention of black bag with Nathan's Superman cape inside; mom Jennifer testified it was his proud estate sale purchase, 50 cents. #Garland

It might also come up with any discussion about owning a meathook.

After following the Bosma trial I can assure you that we have some pretty amazing forensic experts in this country that would be able to tell the difference between animal vs human bones, even from very small fragments. It will be interesting to see if any of them will be taking the stand.

Very true and who would think they would have so much work in the past couple of years.

My little grandson is named Nathan. He's 5. Sometimes I think that the general public could use some basic counselling support.

Special appeal to all journalists perusing our thread:

PLEASE use different photos of Alvin and Kathy.

Those photos are their (very serious) passport photos. I know this case very well, I know they are the victims, but so many do not, and everytime I see those photos next to Nathan, I feel they deserve real life photos instead of the criminal like, non-smiling passport photos.

Please - to honour them - please change the pictures.

Thank-you.
