If you have internet phone wouldn't you leave your Wi-Fi on all of the time though? If they woke up in the middle of the night with an emergency they would have to run down turn the Wi-Fi on before they could make a 911 call.

Just thinking that anyone who was going through the house and looking at items for sale might have inadvertently picked up the router and hit the power button. I'm not sure I would find it unusual that it was off after the kind of day this family had just had. Just wondering if LE knew about the estate sale when they started looking for evidence?

We've been told that Garland was smart and very thorough with work that he did. As such, it doesn't surprise me that everything was planned out very well and researched. I'm sure that he had every little detail worked out. It seems as though his biggest mistake was probably using the green truck which was easily identified.

Yes but if not for the luck of having that neighbour with the great, high tech, CCTV security system, would that truck have been caught on any other CCTV surveillance in the area?

  • #805
I mentioned a couple of days ago I was sure he did a few recce's (still don't know how to spell that). When we are told of his obsessive research those trips and regular surveillance of the residence seem to be a given IMO. Super creepy but very likely. This damaged ego would not want to fail when exacting revenge. (But did! He's not as intelligent or superior as he believes himself to be now is he!) I bet he is sitting there just seething. Imagine his internal rage now - just terrifies me.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I went back and watched the "perp walk" footage and he was some pissed off then. If I knew then what I know now, I would have been terrified to be in his presence.

He's sitting there watching these people tear apart his perfect plan. I can only imagine his anger.

Too bad though.....I hope he chokes on it.

Since DG had been to the house and knew the layout, MOO is he hit up the office first (that was near the side door if I remember correctly), and turned the router off before beginning, so calls for help were unable to be made.

I live in the Area, and was going to go down and watch a day or two of the trial, but i am pretty certain I'd have outbursts at DG for being such a monster, so it's best I stick to WS!

There seems to have been quite a bit of luck. The truck is caught on CCTV. Someone actually knows the truck and does the right thing (a family member to boot). A mapping plane just happens to be flying over the farm at the same time as the bodies are lying out in the open. DG left his trail on his own computer. He never cleaned up. He left the evidence to be found.

Luck, stupidity and a lot of hard work done by CPS, RCMP etc.

You have to wonder what his reaction was, when he found out that the bodies had been photographed on the property. It would the big GOTCHA! I would have loved to have seen his face.

True. The surveillance images were crucial. If DG was scoping out the Liknes house in the days or weeks beforehand this is probably something he should have noticed. I'm assuming the home with the cameras likely had the little bubble-like cameras mounted around the perimeter.

Regardless, even for the most amateur or stupid criminal it should be pretty obvious that you don't use your own vehicle for committing crimes.

Does anyone else think the dumbbells were an opportunistic find too? They seem to have been all over the house. The one in the garage...a smaller one by the pull-out bed in the basement. I think I recall seeing one in another room too. Perhaps something did not go to plan when inside?

There was 2 cell phones in the house, A's in a box in his bedroom and K's on the kitchen window sill. Both phones were working.

I can't even imagine the reaction of both him and his defense team when that piece of discovery was sent to them.

And he's pleading not guilty and going to trial because?.... :notgood:

Too true. Rather than "luck" perhaps a prime example of goodness triumphing over evil. Then the old ego getting in the way - the "dumb mortals" would never find him, much less examine his hard-drive, etc. That trail he left - IMO all down to that narcissistic ego.

If I knew then what I know now (and had I been able to get from UK to Canada and wait around etc) I'd egged him and screamed all the B******* under the sun at him at the very least.

Yes! Why so many dumbells anyway? They were to be moving very soon. Anyway I guess thats neither here nor there.

Welcom lawyer-mum and Jayzo!!! Glad you are here with us, please stick around!

Thinking about the wi-fi/router, etc. So, yes, they should have no problem finding out when it was powered down. But, did DG have a cell phone that connected automatically (or attempted to) in the minutes prior to the power down? They should easily be able to find that out also. Did he even have a cell phone?? I forget if we knew this at some point.

Constable Clark should have some interesting information/evidence to share regarding Garland's internet activity and digital media.

I guess someone else will be going over the forensic evidence from DG's computer and hard drive. I assumed it would be this guy.
