What are you doing up so early Jade?? Are you one of those people who doesn't need sleep?

I found a newly released story about the lengths CPS went to early in the investigation. It's published by CBC so I think must be factual. lol

Great article.

"I can't remember going home," Treit says of the time between June 30, 2014, when the family was discovered missing and July 14, when Garland was charged with murder.

During that time the detective's wife, who is also a police officer, would bring their newborn for visits to Calgary Police Service headquarters where homicide detectives were essentially living — working, eating and grabbing a couple hours sleep when possible.

Ohhh yes, I do need my sleep! I have been all over the map with sleep schedule since being off work. I've come to love this early early time of day - all is quiet - even the JadePets aren't ready to be up yet :)
Come 3pm I'll be crying for a nap, guaranteed!

"He testified that by the end of the first day of the investigation, investigators had compiled a list of six persons of interest. They included a local sex offender, a man who had shot Alvin Liknes's daughter years before, a former house guest of the Likneses, two disgruntled former employees of Alvin Liknes, and Douglas Garland. "

Interesting to hear who the other initial POIs were

This article is awesome!!! Thanks so much Halldor for finding and sharing it!

"Police were contacted on July 3, 2014, by Cenovus Energy, the company that employed Nathan's father, Rod O'Brien, which offered to finance a ransom if a request for money in return for the family members was made. "

Cenovus Energy, a noble offer. So early on there was high hopes that Nathan was kidnapped. I can understand, very little evidence at the crime scene that he was severely injured. Oh how horrible thinking what a rollercoaster of emotions it must have been for the family in those early days.

great find! Had you all known that Alvin's daughter had previously been shot? Do you know how seriously she was injured then?

from the article, so many tips!

In two weeks, police received nearly 1,300 tips from the public. Just days into the investigation, calls, tips and updates attached to the original case number caused the police department's computer system to crash and a second number had to be assigned.

Yes that was known, it was not a severe injury, occurred in a vehicle. As I recall it was an ex-boyfriend, rather an unsavoury character, claimed the gun went off by error. My best recollect......hoping this is allowed without a source.

As I recall, her breast implant saved her from more serious injury. It was discussed here on WS in the early days of the disappearance.

I had a hard time sleeping last night thinking about thus trial so i can only imagine how difficult it is for everyone more closely involved.

I have to leave at 4pm my time so i really hope i'm around for the verdict. We're going to a hockey game so i won't be around all evening. I'm going to be "that" person on my cell phone during the game!

Good morning ☀️
I'm sure the jury will come back fairly quickly, probably today. The judge did such a thorough review of the evidence yesterday, it should all be quite fresh in their minds. I will be on "verdict watch" throughout my day, and I pray the families of the victims will not have to wait long to see DG put away forever.

I'm out and about all day today as well. I'm hoping the verdict comes in earlier rather than later. I'm going to be the "catching up" girl today. BTW, I was so impressed by Sully that I decided to do scent training g with one of my labs and one of my Goldens. Tonight is our first class. [emoji4]

Just read this out to my eldest daughter 24, and I was suddenly choked by tears ... I can't even put into words why.
