A robbery gone bad is one thing. Taking 3 bodies is another, and just doesn't make sense to me, too much trouble and for what purpose? Sadly, I suspect a domestic incident within the home itself. Things got out of hand, someone died, disposal of a body may have been necessary.... The remaining person is perhaps left to flee, taking Nathan with them? But how was the escape made with no vehicle? Will be interesting to hear who the owner of the green truck is and if it's connected in any way to the family.

Add above thoughts to the fact that the public has not been warned to keep doors locked and be mindful of personal safety makes me believe LE suspects this is isolated to the family.

:seeya: Morning,

I was reading about this case on another site [which is not allowed here] and it caught my attention ... So then I came here to WS to get caught up, which I am still doing.

JMO but something is "fishy" about this case ... I am still not sure if it was a "robbery" -- the recent estate sale ... WHY take the bodies out of the home if all you were there was for $$$ or items ?

Thank You all for the updates, photos, maps, etc !

Back to :lurk: until I get caught up to speed ...

You guys may already know this. Regarding Barrie - three bodies found in burnt vehicle

"Police have released few other details, but confirmed to CBC News that the case is not coLnnected with that of the three family members who went missing earlier this week in Calgary. "

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/3-burned-bodies-found-in-car-near-barrie-1.2696939

If this is a good confirmation that it was not the Liknes and Nathan, I can take a deep sigh of relief.

We should put the Barrie scene to bed on this thread... Maybe give it it's own thread? It's not them

With 40 detectives on the case, and 80 officers working the case, this seems to be a manhunt.

It's no surprise given that a five year old child is missing.

If this wasn't pre-meditated, it could have been abandoned as soon as the child was seen/noticed. For some reason, the presence of a five year old child was not enough to avoid what happened.

Did the grandparents have any idea that someone might target them?

As compelling as the grandparents' business ventures, patents and bankruptcies are, I can't imagine they thought anyone would have a reason to target them, because they broadcasted on Kijiji that they were selling everything and moving away. Could intelligent people be this naive? Maybe, but not likely imo.

The green truck appears to have a third brake light. Apparently, those were not introduced until 1994.
Not sure if I am allowed to post a link but here is a good mini-trip through history of Ford pickup trucks.

I have been thinking and not sure if this has been mentioned before or not. But this truck is looking to me to be involved in this case. I say this because if this truck drove up and down that street several times that night. Police would be watching night and day to see if that truck drives by that street again and i am assuming it hasn't or police wouldn't be asking public help in locating this truck. However how in the heck would a single person be able to get all 3 of them including himself into that single cab truck and be able to control the grandparents and a child?

Police say officers, search and rescue team will be conducting a search around the home where Nathan O'Brien, grandparents went missing. I think they are like 5 days late on this one.

I'm struggling to keep up as I have a house full of Stampede guests (and a total of 6 kids under 10, please think of me).

I just wanted to comment on what I noticed at the parade yesterday. Our Stampede Parade is a HUGE draw - 350,000 and police presence was massive, as per usual. However, I did not notice a single mention of the Amber Alert. CPS was all over the place with officers and vehicles, in the parade and working it, and there was nothing - no posters, no announcement.

The only thing out of place was an additional set of portable street-corner cameras (surrounded by police tape), presumably keeping an eye on the crowd.

lets not forget weather cameras as well. lots of them point into streets.

I think the mention of the truck has put a very sinister spin on the crime and now at 5 days on I'm losing hope of a happy ending here.

One thing that has popped into my head with regards to the LE's demand for the estate sale visitors to come forward with descriptions of what they bought, together with the drag marks ... is it possible a rug is missing? There is one featured underneath one of the couchs for sale on Kijiji but it is not mentioned as being for sale. I know this is not a pleasant thought and almost like something from a gangster film...
