JMO the reason all three (grandparents and Nathan) are taken from home is to hide evidence to link the perp to the crime, it seems planned, perhaps money (from an 'Estate' sale) was the motivation. Perhaps the child was the intended goal. One person is in medical distress, likely the Grandfather who would have fought to protect his wife and grandchild. It is my hope that the Grandmother is protecting the grandchild, she would be using all her coping skills to survive. Be STRONG. The individual who committed this crime has no conscious, they might be watching all of this unfold, enjoying their notoriety. LE must have hits on the green truck, they are closing in and I am hopeful they find Nathan soon. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Many abducted children have been found and we must continue to hold out hope.

Good find GWN. Therefore the truck is from the 90's...unless it was originally another colour but was repainted green. LE are saying that the truck is in good condition for it's age so you never know. Maybe this is why why cannot narrow down the year of the truck to within a few years. MOO.

A 400-metre search? Seems very short to include more than 300 homes?

(400 m = about 1200 ft)

ETA: are they doing a grid search? Lots of people, 20 + 40-50!

I'm really curious why they are doing another neighbourhood search. Also if they are searching the park again, it makes me wonder if they think the perpetrator sat there watching the house or something the day before this happened? It just seems to me they must have a good reason to be spending a day going over an area they have already searched.

I am wondering given the small dimension of the search field (400 meters) whether the CCTV footage timestamps are allowing guesses to be made about the truck's destination? For example, it was mentioned in reports that it was spotted several times in the CCTV footage and if these spottings were close together time-wise, maybe it means that the truck was going to and from a location quite close. Also LE might be canvassing neighbours who may have noticed the truck circling especially if this was a planned/cased crime...

Maybe the search "inside homes" means more so garages, since this 20+ year old truck is in such good condition maybe it's just been kept in a garage?

Add above thoughts to the fact that the public has not been warned to keep doors locked and be mindful of personal safety makes me believe LE suspects this is isolated to the family.

In doing a google search of police warning people to keep their doors locked, it seems that it is a fairly common warning from police.

This case just has such a creepy vibe to it. I can't put my finger one it but it feel so much "heavier" than other missing/kidnapped/murder cases. The grandparents had so many business deals, opened their home to hundreds of strangers, planned a move... It could honestly be anything.

The area just West of the house, along the Elbow River, is heavily treed with 3-4 foot tall grass. Maybe they're looking for a weapon that might have been tossed.

I would be interested to know if they at one time spoke with an auctioneer and looked at that route to get rid of their things. I am puzzled by them having an estate sale with an open door policy at this day in age. I won't lie, cases like Tim Bosma made me very leary of selling things online and having people to my house to do an exchange.

I don't think that they had much of value. As one customer said, the furniture was from the 1980s and it was still being used. The big ticket item was a green leather sofa for $450. I think that most people move sale items to the garage and have a garage sale, but for whatever reason, perhaps this family thought it was easier to leave the furniture in the house, sell it, and have other people move it out of the house. An auctioneer would take 30% of the profit and sell as fast as possible, so perhaps there was next to no profit if an auctioneer was involved.

Hi all. I have been on websleuths for quite a few years but rarely log in and post. I just read. When I went to log in last night my account didn't exist anymore. Anyhow this case has got my attention.

I think this case is really bugging me because, for one thing, I have sons and I can't imagine having one missing and because when my boys were little my husband and I both worked nights sometimes and my boys quite often stayed overnight with my parents. My parents don't live in a very nice area and I used to worry about what would happen if someone broke in.

Anyways, I have a couple thoughts that occurred to me as I have been reading along this wk:
1. I keep remembering the Groene case. Everyone was so sure the murders of mom, bf and older son were drug related because these people were known drug users. In actuality, the two small children were the target of a sex offender who had seen them out in the yard. One man pulled off this murder of 3 people and abduction of 2 kids.
2. In relation to the release of info about the truck. It is very possible that they know the truck is involved because if they could see it on the street wouldn't they have seen it in the driveway too? They may have seen a lot more than they are saying. An example of this that comes to mind is in the Jennifer kesse case. For a long time they said the poi was walking by at the time her car was dropped but revealed months later that they actually had this poi on video parking her car.

If the child was the target, then the parents would have done everything possible to protect him. On the other hand, it sounds like the sleepover was a last minute decision. It doesn't sound likely that someone lingered at the property for the child. That is, if he hadn't decided to spend the night, would the perp follow the mom to her house and then take the child by home invasion there?

I just started reading this today and I am not current but can someone who is please help me out. Do Alvin and Kathryn Liknes have other children? Are they local , far away, involved in the search , etc? And has Nathan's mom said anything about the impending move ? If they were to be leaving on the first, I would think there were arrangements , at least tentatively made, for how to get out and move. Were they going to stay in town at a hotel or friends for a few days ? Were they planning to sell every single item in the house during their SALE and literally have no need for a moving truck or storage ? TIA

Could they have had some very expensive antique type items they wanted to sell and a ' garage saler' didn't want to spend what they asked? I mean there are garage sale items in the 1 to 20 $ range but sometimes people put a priceless antique out at a sale and want 30k for it. Surely they were not that naive?
