And no one heard a thing that night?

It is possible a neighbour actually did hear something and this information is just not out there for the general public to know about.

I've been catching up and reading this thread today.

I thought I read earlier that Nathan's father was a homicide detective (or at least LE). So it struck me when I read that he was in court with a homicide detective that the reporter may have been referring to just one person, not RO and a HD.

This may be why we're not hearing too much from the family. The dad has experience in detective work, so he is somewhat in charge of what gets out IMOO

Does anyone else remember about the dad being LE?

Great catch...

The way the report was worded could be interpreted in at least two ways...

- There was a homicide detective and the dad at the hearing... (Referring to two people)

Or....

- There was homicide detective and dad at the hearing today... (JO is a homicide detective AND Nathan's dad)

I do remember some family member was in LE... But I don't trust my memory well...:blushing:

I am off to google...:seeya:

6:00pm Global Calgary news:

Ground footage of the fire department aquatic team on yellow dingy. Says they searched for 3 hours on water in the dingy.

Black SUV shown again. Clearer footage. Looks like a newer vehicle then previously speculated here.

Reporter live on scene says "the search in the third area has intensified in the past hour".

DG currently held at the remand centre.

Crime reporter Nancy Hixt says: "a family member tells us that Al and Douglas had a falling out several years ago after a business deal ended badly".

I knew it! Money from Douglas to Alvin is most likely at the core of this.

They absolutely want media there. LE said "spread the word" to all the media people there. They said everyone can ogle and take pictures as long as they don't go past the pylons. They said "we have a job to do and so do you so lets work together and respect eachother". They gave media members the go-ahead to use the porto potties they had set up (they were allowed to use the one at the driveway entrance). They answered every question even if it was to say they can't share info. They were friendly to all media members. Hell yes they want media there!

Spread the word about what, though, kwim?

It actually goes against the case, in a way, if LE really believes they are out there still. It really does.

Is LE trying to make DG talk?

What good does it do to show the stuff that has been reported thus far? LE has done an absolutely incredible job, please do not misunderstand me. I am so proud of our Canadian LEO and the professional job they are all doing. The media has been respectful, the neighbours all trying to help. Calgarians have one eye on the Stampede and one eye on this case, I'm sure.

But really - say LE mishandles something or does something incorrectly in procedure, and it's all being documented on the video because of the constant media pressure- only helps the prosecution down the road, kwim? Mountain out of molehills, and all that.

The resources are crazy, and I'm sure that LE must have alot, but, no charges, and the amber alert still in effect...it's baffling. I mean, all they have on that guy is him being in possession of a fake ID? I'm amazed they even were able to retain him the extra 2 days on that, really.

Something just does not add up at all.

It's bedtime for me. I said a prayer that resolution, in whatever form, comes soon for all the families, friends, LE, and strangers who have been brought together by this sweet little boy.

Sorry just caught up and editing this because it's mostly what SnooperDuper is suggesting as well...

Do you think LE has the results from the blood samples (if there was blood) in the house? They would know by the volume of blood if someone would still be alive, and as a previous poster mentioned, if there was brain tissue, than you're pretty much guaranteed the victim is dead. I get the sense from the original please/presser with the parents that LE and the family know for certain that AL is dead (or at least mortally injured). If they have the results than they would know at this point who was in "medical distress" as they called it originally (which to me translated as actually mortally wounded) Talking about NO's soul being with God also made me feel like maybe what mom say tells her he was mortally wounded too...MOO

And no one heard a thing that night?

I fear no one left the house alive. I think there was only one perp and as soon as a struggle ensued, he ended it quickly. LE were asking for people to go to the community centre IIRC to state what they had purchased. They were trying to get an idea to see if anything was taken from the house which wasn't included or sold in the sale. Wonder if there were area rug(s) or bedding missing. Did the perp use one to transport victims to the truck that way? MOO.

This case is so disturbing. My heart goes out to the family. May they have answers sooner than later and may their loved ones be found.

Link above says a homicide detective and Nathan's father WERE at the hearing today...

(My own words... But the word WERE seems to mean they were referring to two difference people...)

But... I still wonder if RO is in LE... And/or if any one else in the family is in LE?

I have to agree with you Nettie about the lack of pleas. There have been updates but nearly not enough public pleas. I'm thinking the worst and now it is just a case of recovery. LE know more than they are saying. I suspect the POI's truck has given them some sort of indication but the POI is not cooperating. If the POI was to confess, it will then be declared a recovery. I won't hold me breath on a confession though. LE are now working from the inside out kwim. Start at the premises and work your way out. I'm sure over the coming days we will see many more search areas being set up, each getting further from the Garland's property, until they find what they are looking for.

I assume LE have spoken to DG's parents and they can give a time frame as to when he wasn't home and going by that LE assume the victims cannot be too far from his home.

LE are also doing or have done a complete examination of the interior of the Garland's home removing lots of stuff as seen in previous pictures posted. There is a reason behind removing all those items. They are items of interest obviously. They are remaining very tight lipped about this case and rightfully so. You asked for thoughts, well there's mine. :( All JMO.

DG is obviously not cooperating IMO, seeing as how LE is turning every stone and removing things from the property. In the Russ Williams case (former Col.), Russel had the sense/compassion for his wife to cooperate as he stated he was worried about the LE taring he and his wife's new luxury home to shreds. I guess DG doesn't have the same regards for his parents.

For those of you who have been looking at the various social media profiles of the family, does anyone else find it strange that everyone's profile is not plastered with the Amber Alert and pleas for the return of the family? One of the sons made a post that refers to something like "please help bring my parents home" but why not mention your nephew?!

I definitely don't think any of them are involved. Just that they must know something the public does not. Heaven forbid I was ever in their situation I feel like I would be plastering social media with the Amber Alert and all the media links etc... And asking all my friends to do the same.

Nathan's father is an accountant. His father (Nathan's paternal grandfather) was a RCMP who has passed.

If you look on RO's fb, he has changed his cover photo to one of who I believe is his dad and it looks as if he is wearing a RCMP uniform. Mods, please delete if I'm not allowed to post this. Thanks!

That's not exactly the same as saying that they have been seen by a reliable witness and are known to be fine.

Why would he comment if he didn't know?

In the context it was said, the RCMP officer meant to spread the word to other media and that they are welcome to show up.

I wonder if the estate sale was a sign to DG - they really were leaving and it was time to make his move. JMO

They really were leaving, and they told some people Edmonton, others Mexico. No one was sure about where they were going.

This is complete speculation: ... so it's possible that Douglas provided money for investment, he imagined that he'd never see the money again, he went to the house to demand money, there was an altercation, violence, injury, and everyone was taken away so that Douglas could avoid being arrested. That's pure speculation, but it's a question I've had in the back of my mind for several days. What I've also been hoping is that the parents did not know that Douglas was stopping by. I certainly hope that they didn't think that the presence of a child would deter anyone from violence.

I think maybe they are just limiting their online presence. And trying to keep it together. As for JL's plea on his FB page, I'm sure he didn't mean to exclude mentioning his nephew as he knows they're together. I can't even begin to imagine the toll on one's thought process and emotions having to go through this. JMO
