RE: Douglas Garland's comment about bad eyesight.
He wears glasses! At least the old captured poster shows him wearing glasses. How come he doesn't have them? Where are his glasses? Of two sketch pictures, neither show him wearing glasses. Wouldn't they let him wear them in jail, at court? Hmmmm.... maybe he lost them that night during a struggle.

Please correct me if I am wrong but isn't he wearing glasses in this flyer? It's a video but it shows the flyer before you click to watch.

More than likely, they have been taken away from him for safety and security reasons, which can be pretty standard, and will be returned to him when he's released out on bail. The court constables who take the in-custody prisoners into the courtroom will bring out a sealed property bag belonging to the accused, if there is one, and have him sign that he's received everything that's been recorded and marked on paper.

DG does NOT live at the acreage, he was picked up there by the police. Conditions of his release are that he confirms to the court where he will be living.

So, where was he living?

Since the police are searching his current residence, it makes sense that they would like to know where he will be staying upon release.

are there landlords with tenancy agreements with a tenant under the name of Hartley?

When did DG stop living at the acreage, and/or, did his parents ask him to leave recently prior or during the current property search?

Were we all assuming that because he was there, his truck was there, he had a meth lab there, and his parents live there that he also lives there? Has it been said that he did not live there, or is there an assumption that because he does not currently have an alternate residence he didn't live there?

I understood that he cannot return to the property because it is a crime scene for an undetermined length of time, so he needs to provide an address where he intends to live now.

Perhaps he is wearing contact lenses these days.

Do you have any reference for this? As far as I've read, it's been indicated by the news and the neighbour(s) that he did indeed live on his parents' property.

Ms. Elle, thanks for your post. Reading it tugged on my heart strings b/c my son was very late to talk and although is not diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or a learning disability, he has a deficiency that has him write tests, etc., in resource. and by consequence 100% of his friends are high functioning, like he is and/or ADD/ADHD/Asperger Syndrom. Watching/listening to my son coordinate a time to get together with his friends is like watching "Big Bang" live. Suffice to say they are all incredibly intelligent, great guys.. and socially awkward and still a little immature because they just don't get the social interaction most other teens do. I worry that their inability to read social queues, etc., will make them vulnerable to someone wanting to take advantage of their, for the most part, good will and intellect.. which is what may have happened to the POI in the very beginning. He was naive and was taken advantage of by someone he was taught to 'trust', paid the price and as a result harbored a lot of resentment and an inability to process his feelings might have evolved into a grudge/revenge? I don't know. It just seems really sinister (and very sad) what has happened.

I think you're spot on re: POI, it doesn't excuse any wrongs he's committed previously or god forbid currently, but I think he's an outlier who never figured out how to 'jump in' to the mix. As a result I can't help but feel sorry for him to a degree.

You didn't mention how old your son is but if he's not yet in high school, I'd highly recommend a big school for high school. I wasn't diagnosed til I was an adult but I found going to a big high school freeing because I had more of a chance to explore and find more of my kind of people. :)

I thought ADD was diagnosed in children and you grow out of it by age 54?

http://www.cdc.gov/NCBDDD/adhd/widget/checklist/index.html

One of the symptoms is 'Is often "on the go" or often acts as if "driven by a motor". '

Go, go, go

Nope, ADHD is thought to be the result of brain structure/neurotransmitters processing dopamine/genetics. There are things that can mimic ADHD and aren't and there are certain symptoms that some people can 'grow out of' but ADHD is something you're born with and lasts for life. A lot of people, especially females aren't diagnosed as children either.

The earlier DG would have been diagnosed, the more likely it is that he would be able to manage his symptoms. If he wasn't diagnosed til later and/or it wasn't treated when he was young, he has the hurdle of having to unlearn bad coping habits

Regarding the OLD green truck involved. Esp if it is owned by the POI...I can see a major advantage to keeping it in good running order. No GPS tracking in the old models like there is today. Which brings me to AL's truck - it would be easy enough for LE to check its movements from that night from the GPS wouldn't it ??

  • #933
You are witnessing why. Look at the time and resources used, the rampant speculation, and the lack of charges currently. Without that lucky picture of the truck... where would LE be?

I don't see that as sufficient reason to take the risk. The perpetrator(s) could have left the bodies in the house if the motive was murder without the risk of evidence transfer or the burden of having to move 3 bodies out of the house and transport them. That's cumbersome and risky.

He just completed his first year of h.s. It's big (feeder school). I was worried that he'd get lost in it, but my friend assured me that the kids have a knack of gravitating into their respective 'groups'. They do, too. Geographically it's not easy to get together, but "minecraft", social media and instant messaging make it easy to keep it touch.

I have the same last name as the identity DG stole..creepy

Evidence, be it bodies, bloody furniture & carpets, contaminated vehicle parts, paperwork, weapons, electronics et al. can be dumped in any garbage bin, in any city.

It's only prudent that they search the landfills.

Was it confirmed or just a rumor?.........that neighbors near rural Airdrie property told LE that there had been something being 'burned' Sunday night on the Garland property? Some types of evidence could certainly be burned into nothing and ashes disposed somewhere, IMO.

I wonder if the perp is the type of person that doesn't excuse any wrongs, real or perceived, from others. Maybe he thinks that he got the raw end of the deal. Perhaps he thinks that even though he might be good at math and science, he never gets a break. The act of approaching, injuring, abducting, abducting family including a 5 year old child, and making vanish seems very sadistic.

The missing person's need to be found soon. In the event that they are deceased, to get a good understanding of the cause of death, they need to be found soon. Temperatures of 30C, rain, animals, and fresh growth will make more difficult to identify cause of death. Is manner of death something like "homicide", and cause of death would be something like "knife"?

Gotta love the internet! Getting lost can be the best way to be found too. My mom and I used to go for coffee after school once a week or so to chat and people watch. Looking back, I think even though it wasn't the purpose of those outings, I think I absorbed a lot from people watching and it helped me socially.

It's possible he's that way but it seems odd for that to suddenly manifest this late in his life. Usually people capable of that have a history of setting fires, torturing animals etc. he just doesn't seem like the type.
