Sadly we have/have had so many bizarre murders/missing people/crimes cases in Calgary it could have it's own forum. :sigh:

I was reading a post about that this morning. And yet, there was only one case I actually remember hearing about! How did I miss the others!? Creepy stuff. Like the Lake Bonavista couple--I had no idea until I read it here. Or the architect who killed his family. The only one I'd heard about was that student who killed his friends not too long ago.

IMO the police have way more information than they are letting on. There's something in the footage they aren't sharing. In order to obtain a search Warrent in canada you have to have reasonable grounds to believe an offence took place and reason to believe evidence of the crime is at that location. I don't believe LE could convince a judge to sign off on an information to obtain a search Warrent with the only grounds being a green truck drove around the subdivision where the individuals went missing.

Nothing was ever said about AL's truck. I thought I read it had muddy tires and was taken in for evidence?? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I mentioned the day they finally took AL's truck in for evidence they showed the family at the house with footage of JO coming out the door removing blue paper booties and other family members sitting at the front and on the driveway near the truck. This was shown on Global News Calgary (or possibly Global National still looking for link)
The camera zoomed in on the family and included the side of the truck and front right side and wheel base and you could see dried mud on the body of the truck and inside the wheelbase.

I believe this was on Friday July 4, the day they mentioned the green truck. It bothered me because in the recent case in Lake Bonavista they didn't secure the scene until 12 hours later and didn't impound all the vehicles till later. In a missing case IMHO, a careful examination of vehicles should be warranted to see if they have been taken out and returned. It never should be assumed they have not been used just because they are sitting there. All of this IMHO.

If it was #1 on the priority list how long would it take to get DNA evidence back?

Well it's summer and it could be slower due to staff vacation too. There's only so many people in one lab trained to do DNA isolation, replication and extraction. Plus there was a weekend involved and I am not sure what staffing would be like on a weekend. The results have to be analyzed and interpreted and I am assuming peer checked. In this case I am going to guess a couple of weeks.

As mentioned previously I am a bit anal(lytical) LOL It's been driving me crazy every time someone posts Lake Bonaventure and I'd just like to clear this up so you guys have all the facts!

Lake Bonavista is the name of the neighbourhood. Lake Bonaventure is one of two Lake Bonavista private lakes (other being Lake Bonavista!) and is private to a few streets. It is also the name of a drive that runs through the neighbourhood.

The street the Carlson's lived on did not have lake access to Lake Bonaventure. The murders from 1998 did take place on Lake Bonaventure Drive.

According to the 2005 court record involving his unemployment insurance claim (I attached the complete record with this post as attached PDF file), it seems Douglas Garland had at least two breakdowns in his life up to that time: the first one about 1 year after enrolling in medical school, another one in 1997. It's reasonable to assume one of these breakdowns (probably the first) was triggered by that traumatizing horrific car crash caused by him falling asleep at the wheel. It would be interesting to find out what caused the other (presumably 1997) breakdown.

I expect his family members (parents and sister, all living and well) could shed some light on his breakdowns. Even if they didn't know the cause, they could have sensed his state of mind, given that he seems to have kept in touch with them all these years.

A little while ago someone here was asking about the name Allen Liknes... In case no one found the answer, I found it here:

"Alvin Liknes, a petroleum engineer, comes from a family of nine brothers and sisters and is especially close to his twin brother Allen, for whom he named his first-born son, the relative said."

All in all, the Ls and Os seem to be a complicated clan.

I never felt that the events of Sunday night resulted from a robbery gone wrong whereby some stranger perp returned to the home to steal the proceeds from the sale. As many others have stated, why would a robber force or remove 3 people from the home? I also cannot see the logistics of one perp (whether it be DG or not) removing this family from the home. We do know that one of the family members suffered a medical distress. Was this person incapacitated or even deceased? If the latter was the grandfather, it would be a huge physical challenge to move him into a vehicle while having to keep the other two under control. It's been stated that AL is about 200 lbs and 6' tall. Then again, did the blood evidence come from KL? It appeared that the family vehicles were parked in the driveway up near the garage so the perp's vehicle would have to be parked at the end of the driveway. If the above took place then could there have been two perps? I am skeptical about this scenario. Some posters have wondered if there was a domestic dispute? I think that anything is possible. I also would be interested to know why LE is saying it is less of a mystery. I too believe that LE knows far more than is being disclosed and they may even have a good idea as to what happened that night. I can understand their reluctance to divulge any critical information that would jeopardize or compromise this case or any future court proceedings.

You are very right about getting a search warrant. Police have to specify what they are looking for as well. I am guessing that there was the footage of the truck in the area with DG driving it. They got the plate from CCTV which led them to his address. From there they got the warrant looking for the truck and to search the property. You can bet they did at the very least a flyover of the property or did some surveillance to see if he was on the property. They didn't go knock on this guy's door blindly...especially since he could be a triple murder suspect.

I wonder if LE got his DNA at the house since he had arrest history, it would be in the system. LE saw his truck and proceeded to get the SW. But I could be wrong.

I'm curious if anyone with expert zoom/image skills was able to zoom in on the back of the green pickup truck (the one with the aerial view) and see if there was anything in the bed like tools or if it was completely empty, did it look recently washed down, etc.

Would you hypothesize then thy AL and KL reached out to DG to help them dispose of evidence and help them go on the run?
Or would you think DG is not involved at all?

Originally I thought DG was certainly involved due to everything discovered by WS and MSM about his past but now I get the sense he may not be involved. LE have his green truck but nothing has come of that officially albeit it would be quick to discover if any obvious evidence was there and certainly LE would have acted on that by now with an arrest pertaining to the disappearance. We haven't seen an actual picture of DG's truck and it may not even the same green truck in the video. On the other hand, did AL reach out to DG that evening? I would say possibly. But DG has been described as a loner so I query whether he would jump in and rescue AL in a crisis if that is what happened. I am beginning to believe it was a domestic crisis within the home and may have been NO who was injured JM thoughts only. Either scenario is heartbreaking none the less.

From everything I've read I think they would have sought assistance immediately for their grandson. He looked very loved by them.

Absolutely, NO is loved by his grandparents but if something accidentally happened and forbid with no hope in a recovery then maybe the Grandparents panicked.
I have seen many photos of the family, of AL and KL and they all appear loving and sweet. I don't want anyone to read into my post that I have ill preconceived thoughts of the family.
