I'm bothered by the #FindNathan and #BringNathanHome hashtags that I see on twitter. There are three people missing here.

The Amber Alert was in Nathan's name because he is the child involved, and IMO, anyone who knows about Nathan being missing knows about Alvin and Kathryn.

Yes, that's luminol

Do we know this? I thought luminol was liquid and would run downward with streaks. What I see looks like it could be fingerprint powder?

MK is the fellow who spoke to the media about Winter Petroleum. This page for Winter Petroleum shows only 3 employees:

http://winter-petroleum-ltd.calgary.amfibi.com/ca/c/148957-winter-petroleum-ltd

ETA: Were there only 3 employees who wrapped up their employment with Winter on June 25?

"But Marek Kozera — one of eight people who lost their job when Winter Petroleum Ltd. folded weeks ago — said he told investigators “everything” about his former boss and the company’s financial woes."

I agree with this. I've even had the thought of why couldn't they have left Nathan in the house alone if they were going after AL and/or KL. It takes a special kind of criminal to after a child.

That's why I think Nathan may have been used as a pawn to get the Gpas to comply with whatever they were instructed to do.

And if it is indeed luminol or fingerprint powder, why was it referred to as "tag" (graffiti) or paint marks on more than one occasion (once by a journalist in the presser, once by a family friend on her FB)? And why would Sgt. Andrus have said he couldn't comment on it when he could have just said it was part of the investigative process?

Ok, I am going to throw this out there and hopefully if I am permitted I can cross reference the photos from kijiji and MSM as well as one pic on KL face book page.

There are photos on kijiji that account for the main floor living room area and dinette area and furniture. This is a split level home and I lived in one and am very familiar with dimensions and how they work for this home style. The kijiji ad has different furniture groupings that are for sale. I cross referenced them in pictures. I can ascertain which ones are the basement pics and which ones are the main floor pictures. What I am finding very very curious is that there is a grouping of pictures that have large pieces of furniture and desk grouping areas that would not fit in this house style or size UNLESS the garage area is actually a living space area that was converted. I have pictures of what looks to be the side door area of the home and you can clearly see a step down in the area that the furniture is in meaning often times when you convert a garage area into a living space you put a sub floor keeping you off the concrete. If you recall the pictures where you see the carpet all bunch up under the leather couches? This is the area I am referring to. I want to post the kijiji pictures and need confirmation that I can do so. Please advise.

If I am correct and I really am thinking I am, then the garage area is very important.

Garage conversion to living space is relatively rare in Calgary. Harsh winters make a garage handy, plus there's need for storage of lawn mowers, snow shovels and things.

On the other hand, a couple things bolster your theory. One is the big Liknes truck doesn't look like it would fit the garage, so they may not have minded losing that space. Secondly is that none of the news scene photos show the garage door open.

The clincher might be if someone can get the property listing details from the recent Dec 2013 sale transaction.

If you see it up close in other pics, it was running down. Fingerprint powder is black (in my experience).

And I thought luminol can only be seen if it's dark and for only a brief period?

As you are working with kijiji photos, consider they may not all depict the 38A location. There's at least one of the candle/cupcake holder that's speculated to be photographed in someone else's house. Look for consistencies or inconsistencies in wall styles, baseboards, that kind of thing.

How could it be graffiti if it's not in the earlier pics from before forensics came in?

Yes that is a good point Carol. The only large enough area then for this furniture groupings would be the upper level over the garage. I will see if I can find the mls listing then it may be easier for me as I am having trouble copying the kijiji pics to WS. Says URL isn't available....thanks will keep working on it.

Okay, so WTH do I know? ;)

from:

The convention today is to use a powder color that provides a visual contrast to the surface being processed; dark surface = light powder, and light surface = dark powder. Rather than using black powder for everything, other colors (white, silver/grey/aluminum, or bi-chromatic) can be used to process almost any surface that may be encountered.

White powder works especially well on glass, chromed metals, plastic bags, and dark-colored surfaces. Aluminum powder performs best on glass, plastic, and rubber. Bi-chromatic powder, on the other hand, is typically a combination of black and aluminum powder, although some manufacturers combine the black with a variety of other colors. The idea behind the creation of the bi-chromatic powder was to assist the examiner with multi-colored surfaces. When processing with bi-chromatic powder, developed latent prints will be seen as black ridges on the light parts of the surface and light ridges on the dark parts of the surface. Once these prints are lifted, they will always visualize as dark ridges on a white backing card.

But in my own defence:

Black is by far the most commonly used latent print powder color. Black powder is manufactured from a variety of carbon-based powders with a binder added for stability. This carbon-based powder readily adheres to the oily residues generated by contact from fingers and other body parts. Black powders are easy to apply to many surface types, porous and non-porous alike.

They also have a double garage in the back yard accessed from the alley. This can be seen from aerial photo (Google Earth), a few pictures from media taken in the alley/park area and also from the City of Calgary property assessment website/map.

I don't think it can be luminol, you wouldn't see it.

The basic idea of luminol is to reveal these traces with a light-producing chemical reaction between several chemicals and hemoglobin, an oxygen-carrying protein in the blood. The molecules break down and the atoms rearrange to form different molecules (see Microsoft Encarta: Chemical Reaction for more information on chemical reactions). In this particular reaction, the reactants (the original molecules) have more energy than the products (the resulting molecules). The molecules get rid of the extra energy in the form of visible light photons. This process, generally known as chemiluminescence, is the same phenomenon that makes fireflies and light sticks glow.
Investigators will spray a suspicious area, turn out all the lights and block the windows, and look for a bluish-green light. If there are any blood traces in the area, they will glow.

If I am correct and I really am thinking I am, then the garage area is very important.

The garage at the front of the house as a keypad opener, so it's probably a garage. However, it looks like that wing of the house could include a room behind the garage.

This is an aerial of the house. The wing of the house on the right includes the garage, but there is space for a room behind it on that floor.

It's hard to have sympathy for someone that doesn't want to pay taxes.

Snipped by me for being pointless. :)

Will post these individually since I get bumped off if I try to do all at once.

Looking at the front of the house from the road this is the front main living area on the right hand side. Note fern, curtain colours, carpet color and reflection of matching love seat in mirror.

Looking from the front of house from the road main living area on the left hand side where the glass appears to be missing from the pane. This is the matching love seat. Note that the love seat is too large for the wall space. Typically short width wall on this style home at foyer entrance. Behind this wall is the foyer and front door.
