So, everyone, how would you interpret the police's saying the case was "Less of a mystery" on July 3?

The video analysis was giving them more information. They had viewed the video, they identified the truck as a Ford T150, and the following morning they made a public request for information about the truck. It was less of a mystery than the complete mystery it was the day before.

They probably met at a bar....

thing is the garlands both knew shady characters, so how does one go from shady to upstanding? or did the shady's know AL and intro him to DG and then everyone else met? I picture dg as introverted and al as an extrovert . it niggles me to no end.

Yes, I saw that link, and thank you for that. It still didn't answer why there would be an ME on site, because... no body(ies).. and.. I had always thought that police, if not CPS, then at least RCMP, would have their own forensic investigator, and would take samples to send to a lab.. without having an ME do it. I would think a trained forensic police officer would be capable of taking samples from that concrete and sending them in?

See the video linked by my previous post:

This looks to be the area where the rescue boats were located. The trails are at the top of the cliffs, but the cliffs are not something that someone could fall off.

So, everyone, how would you interpret the police's saying the case was "Less of a mystery" on July 3? He was saying "We are getting good information coming in" when he said that, so it seems it was the information that came in that made it less of a mystery, rather than some kind of discovery in the house. So perhaps the family provided possible motive and suspects.

Either incompetence or they are pretty sure DG did it. Usually police will try to keep a suspect in custody until trial only if they and prosecuting attorneys think they have enough evidence to convict. They often let the suspect seek bail if they think that they will be able to gather more evidence by keeping the suspect under surveillance and hoping he does something that results in more evidence being gathered.

IMO, It could also be that before hand it seemed mysterious as to why they disappeared and upon linking the POI to the case questions such as "why them?" "what reason?" etc were making more sense. It seemed less random once they knew of previous business dealings between the POI and AL, therefore it was less of a mystery.

I think they were going to be gone at the end of June and wonder if they were going to abandon some of their things in the house ... let the new owner deal with junk removal.

The lease was not over until the end of July. They still had a month to do clean up and removal of "junk".

Yes, I wonder if bringing the ME was simply to comment on the quantity of blood (if from one person?), and what that may mean in terms of ability to live? Something a sample or a lab would not be able to determine.

I think there was enough blood for police to reasonably suspect that there may have been "violence" that resulted in "medical distress", perhaps death.

The bike path does not provide a good opportunity to put a body in the water, but the Glenmore Trail bridge over the reservoir does.

glenmore trail is a no stopping freeway, very very very fast moving vehicles, hate driving it. Under the bridge there is a parking lot beside the river for cyclists who drive their vehicles to ride the pathway. if you dumped a body there with high water it would sink into a very long back eddy caused by the gravel bar, despite how the swiftness of the surface water appears, it is really a long deep trough.

What shady characters do the Garlands know? Douglas Garland used the identity of a deceased child (that he probably heard about through his community) to avoid jail time after a meth lab conviction. I'm not aware of any shady characters. The only odd thing is that he too has a website for a company that doesn't seem to exist. There are claims for more than a million US in business, but there is no business and if Garland is looking to homeless shelters for an address, then he is broke. That is something that he has in common with the victim.

I think that's the website office, not a physical work location. I don't think she was working as a realtor, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that she was trying to do some buying and selling on the side.

The address is a real Real Estate Company.
The reverse phone number of the office number points to that company.

KL was either working for this company or committing major fraud. I think it is the former.

I think everyone needs to disregard the buyandsell247 site. It has nothing to do with this case. The information on the ad was scraped from another website, likely kijiji, and has since been removed.

ETA: see here....http://sell-buy.ca/?view=showad&adid=6706&cityid=-5&reported=y

These are SPAM sites.

Incidentally, being an Albertan, DG was probably aware of the Mark Twitchell case in Edmonton. Twitchell successfully hid the remains of his victim by dumping it under a manhole, concluding in his journal that "nobody ever goes down there". He was right, police may not have ever found the body if Twitchell hadn't finally confessed its location months later.

The medical examiner is the person that works for the police to collect evidence when there appears to be violence and blood loss ... to make a determination of death.

Nothing on Global News about heavy police presence I saw earlier this evening. Waiting till 11:30 local CTV news to see what they have. So frustrating! Been searching through twitter etc to see if I could find out anything. Just weird. It's a light industrial area, bordering a small industrial park. Area is about a 5 minute drive south from the Liknes house for interests sake.

Re: Reservoir body News says not associated with the 3 missing persons case, autopsy to be done in coming week. I'm pretty sure it's the missing Rocky View patient, the hospital is on the reservoir. He's been missing since June 19.

Well if he was manufacturing drugs, he had to know somebody to sell them to. I think that would qualify as a 'shady character'...

Do you have a link for that? I have read that the house was sold in Dec 2013 and leased back. I thought it was for six months because leases are usually 6 months, a year, and so on.

FYI Not that I think the ad is that important but the Buyandsell site is legit. It used to be in paper form, come out every Wednesday and is very old school pre-dating kijiji, craigslist.

A mint condition 1991-93 green Ford T150 was found on the Airdrie acreage. That truck is rare. A similar rare truck was seen more than once near the crime scene during the hours in question. Most 20-25 year old trucks are well worn. It was removed from the property on July 4 at about 6PM. The media learned about activity on the Airdrie property the following day, July 5, at about 11AM. Whatever it is news footage is not the truck in question ... no matter what the news station implies.

Thanks for this. I had thought the house that was a lot taller caught the truck several times on cctv in the hood? 3 doors away facing the L's house on the right side, sorry can't find the link.
