Outside of information offered by her missing person listing, there are no newspaper articles, no police press releases, or additional photo of Amanda. This has lead me to believe that she was indeed a victim of abuse and may have changed her name to Amanda Jane Rudge in an attempt to hide from her abuser.

A Little Bit About Amanda's Case:

Amanda was last seen August 1991 (at the age of 27) at her residence on Enfield Place, Mississauga by her mother. There is speculation that she has connections to the United States. She reportedly frequented the Bloor and Lansdowne area of #Toronto which at the time was a dangerous and high crime area.

The Missed Lives Project is trying to locate the high school she attended to track down her friends and family for more information and leads. According to current school boundaries, Rudge would have gone to TL Kennedy Secondary School, which has no record of her attending. Other options outside of that boundary (that would have been open in the 1977-1982 time frame that she attended high school) would be Woodlands Secondary School, Port Credit Secondary, and Applewood Heights.

Police reopen case of Toronto woman who vanished in 1991 and uncover possible U.S. sighting
A quarter century after a young woman vanished from her suburban Toronto home, Ontario Provincial Police have reopened an investigation into her disappearance, and unearthed a new, unconfirmed report she may have been spotted alive in the United States.
If the sighting is real, it would fit with her mother’s fear that Amanda Jane Rudge intentionally disappeared in 1991, aged 27, to save herself and her mother after criminals threatened to kill her.
If it turns out to be false, it will be yet another dead-end lead in a twisting investigation that has now been pursued, with varying intensity, by at least three separate police forces.
A focus of the new investigation is an anonymous phone call at the time of the disappearance to Amanda’s mother, Sylvia Rudge, saying she would never see her daughter again if Amanda gave evidence as a witness to the crimes of her acquaintances in a risky subculture of drugs and drinking.
Police have now determined Amanda was in fact involved in a police investigation around the time she vanished in the summer of 1991. But her disappearance appears to have been investigated only half-heartedly, at least partly because Amanda was legally an adult.

snippit* That led to inquiries with Sylvia and her former husband Frank Rudge, who stayed in New Jersey after they divorced when Amanda was a young child, and Sylvia moved them to Canada

This is Canadian LE re-opening a missing persons investigation?

Not seeing anything new or where LE is now 'leading' this case.

Looks like no direction to me - jmo. Amanda and others that are still missing don't have a chance with this mindset by LE - that part I get.

OPP Det. Staff Sgt. Paul Rosato said Amanda may not want to be found.

“It’s very frustrating for us,” Rosato said, adding the missing woman may have changed her name.

Police did receive a report last December that Rudge may be living in Illinois, but investigators are still working to verify that information and can’t even say definitively whether or not she is still alive.

“She lived a lifestyle that’s high risk. It’s unfortunate she dropped off the radar,” he said. “We still have no information to suggest that Amanda had met with any foul play, but of course we can’t rule that out.”

Amanda was born on June 20, 1964 in the United Kingdom. The family moved to the U.S. when Amanda was just 10 months old, living in Garden City, New Jersey, Horsham, Pennsylvania, and Dayton, Ohio. Sylvia left Amanda’s father Frank when Amanda was seven, moving them to Canada. As an adult, Amanda did not have a passport, Sylvia said.

Amanda was a shy child but grew to be a determined, independent woman.

She attended Applewood Heights Secondary School from 1977 to 1982. While attending that school, she lived in a building off Bloor Street near Tomken Road.

Sylvia had a simple, yet heartfelt message for her daughter if she is still alive: “I have never stopped loving you, never stopped searching for you and never stopped praying for you.”

Anyone with information on Amanda Rudge’s whereabouts can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), The Missed Lives Project at MissedLives.org or OPP Det. Const. Kevin White at 416-525-4074.

Amanda Jane Rudge disappeared in August 1991.

“She was involved in something,” Sylvia Rudge said in an interview. The phone call came from a man with a Jamaican or Caribbean accent, who did not identify himself. “When somebody’s the age she was, they don’t discuss it with their mother.”

Sylvia’s initial missing person report was dismissed, she said, by police who said Amanda was free to make her own decisions without informing her mother, despite the abrupt disappearance from the home they shared in Mississauga.''

“They just missed everything because she was 27 years old,” said Sylvia. She believes a key reason for this initial skepticism was Amanda’s troubled lifestyle, with a history of eating disorders, precarious work in hairdressing and bartending, sketchy friends, abuse of drugs and alcohol, and even a few days in jail on minor charges.

“She just did things differently,” Sylvia said. “She was living a life that I didn’t agree with, and a lot of people wouldn’t have done. I’m sure she got involved with just the wrong sort.”

“Amanda may not want to be found. She has participated in a lifestyle that’s described as a high risk,” said Det. Staff Sgt. Paul Rosato of the Ontario Provincial Police. “We still have no information to suggest that Amanda had met with any foul play, but of course we can’t rule that out.”

“I think the public should know that there are instances where females especially in this world are overlooked in many things, not just disappearing, but life itself, actually. I think we get a raw deal,” she said. “I’m still not sure whether Amanda is still around or not. I find that hard. Sometimes I think she is, sometimes I think she’s not … I mean, I’m old now and it’s hard, but I know there’s an answer out there.”
