Ambassador Bridge border crossing closed in both directions over possible explosives
October 4, 2021 11:56AM EDT
WINDSOR, Ont. -- Police say the Ambassador Bridge border crossing is closed in both directions as they investigate possible explosives found in the area.

Investigators say the area surrounding the bridge that links Windsor, Ont., and Detroit, Mich., has also been evacuated.

Windsor police say traffic is being rerouted to the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel and the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia, Ont.

Police say their explosives unit is on scene. They're asking the public to avoid the area.

Ambassador Bridge traffic partially resumes after possible threat

Ugh, creepy. I crossed the Ambassador Bridge (and the tunnel) many times in my youth. It sounds like no explosives were found and now it's an investigation?

Using one of my favorite media terms “We are hearing” for the first time. We are hearing probably another hour or so before the bridge reopens. Again, I would avoid it till tomorrow. It’s still going to take awhile to clear all that traffic.

Ambassador Bridge closed to U.S. traffic
''Police said Monday afternoon that the driver of the vehicle was detained and was in the custody of the CBSA as the investigation continued.

"No other persons are believed to be involved in this incident," Windsor police wrote on Twitter. "This is believed to be an isolated incident."

The force also said no direct threats were made to places or people in connection with the possible explosives found.

The CBSA said it was working closely with emergency officials on both sides of the border to monitor the situation and minimize traffic disruptions.

"We will rely on emergency and highway officials to say when it is safe to travel on and will resume operations at that time," it said in a statement.''

Grenades behind partial Ambassador Bridge shutdown | Canoe.Com
''Two grenades stored in a white powder sparked Monday’s partial shutdown of the Ambassador Bridge.

Windsor police on Tuesday announced no criminal charges were laid in relation to the discovery of grenades inside a vehicle by Canadian Border Services Agency officers, which prompted an hours-long investigation and halt to Canadian-bound bridge traffic.''
''Another member of the explosive disposal unit safely secured the grenades from the vehicle. Both grenades were inspected and found to be inert and therefore harmless.

Police continued with a thorough search of the vehicle until officers were completely satisfied no other threats were present.''

Well, oops! Seriously, who takes grenades across the border?
